“Have courage and be kind… Where there is kindness there is goodness, and where there is goodness there is magic.” This March, Disney is all out to set our fairytale-loving hearts aflutter with the release of the live-action retelling of the classic fairy tale – Cinderella. *shrieks* I remember I was in the midst of planning my Disney-inspired wedding when I first caught a glimpse of this movie spectacular. (❤o❤) It was a teaser poster that features the legendary glistening glass slipper of its beautiful protagonist, Cinderella. Think I kinda hyperventilated outside the GV cinema. Haha! So to celebrate the opening of the movie next month, I’ll be sharing all the Cinderella elements of our wedding – from the pre-wedding photos, props, photobooth to the dessert table. If you’re a Cinderelly fanatic, be warned – your heart might get out of rhythm too. 😛 And now, please allow me to present to you the first instalment of our Magic Pumpkin series – the Pre-Wedding photos. [df_divider el_width=”100″ style=”solid” accent_color=”#EEEEEE” border_t_width=”2px” padding=”20px 0″ position=”align_center” el_class=””] We engaged two photographers with completely different styles for our Cinderella photoshoot. This next collection of photos was taken by Ada and Aki of A Square Visual Studio . And they feature a new form of photography known as ‘Indie Pop’ (aka 小清新) which is a blend of dreamy and quaint photography styles. This new form of photography was incarnated by the the ‘Indie Pop’ culture of the the UK music industry in the 1980s. It was popular for chronicling the little things in one’s life through refreshing, gentle and positive music themes. Later, this interesting sub-culture expanded its influence to the movie and photography industry. A few photography houses in the region have jumped on the bandwagon and adopted this new style of photography and one of them is A Square Visual Studio. And here’s their take on our Cinderella story. They’ve captured and immortalized moments that I will always treasure, beautiful memories of the best day of my life, moments that I can share with my family, friends and even my children next time. Once upon a time, in a land far, far away… Okay, it’s not that far, just a 14-hour flight away, a wandering nomad crossed paths with a princess who’s in a bit of a bind. An evil curse has been cast upon her and now, she’s trapped in a fairytale world. Doesn’t sound like a bad predicament yea? Wrong!  The caveat is – if the princess can’t find her knight in shining armour by sunset, the spell will remain and she will be imprisoned in this magical dimension forever. In a perfect storybook, the world is brave and good, your skin is flawless and smooth. But life’s a different game, the zits, spots and the broken veins. Sigh. Don’t lose hope just yet! You can always ‘change the fate’ with…… makeup of course! I was literally on cloud nine when news broke that Disney was collaborating with MAC Cosmetics on a new Cinderella line. But when I chanced upon MAC’s teaser image on Instagram, all I saw was a fairytale beauty catastrophe. The packaging was bleh, colors were dull and range was small. Nothing spelt princess-perfect except the glittery backdrop. Pfft! Then I watched the movie and realised the concept behind the collection. Lily James’ Cinderella look is fresh, graceful and insanely natural. Even when Fairy Godmother worked her sorcery and transformed the mice into charming horses, the pumpkin into a magnificent gold carriage, she still kept Cinderella’s look natural and subtle with just a hint of sparkly dust. What makes it brutally unfair is that even looking natural, Cinderella still looks like a goddess! Now this MAC fairytale range fits the Cinderella equation to a T. It consists of mostly nude and peachy colors that are totally wearable for any occasion. Close up, the periwinkle pearlescent packaging looks absolutely ethereal, paying homage to Cinderella’s beautiful iridescent ballgown in the movie. So not surprisingly, I gave in to MAC and bought the collection. Was it still a deal breaker in the end? Read on to find out! The range was also larger than I thought. It is made up of 17 enchanting items that includes everything from eyeshadow, loose glitter to lip gloss, each aptly named after different Cinderella elements and encased in pretty lavender blue pearlized packaging. Since I only decided to give this dazzling collection a go three weeks after its launch (awwww…), you can imagine – most of the items were sold out. I was only able to purchase the Glass Slipper lipgloss, Fluidline in Macroviolet and Beauty Powder in Mystery Princess. Other items (not in the Cinderella collection) that I also acquired are the MAC Brush Cleanser and the 212 Flat Definer Brush. Now let’s get upclose and personal with the MAC Cinderella products! MAC Cinderella Lipglass in Glass Slipper It’s a beautiful clear gloss with pink glitter and I like how it adds instant glamour and glitz to my lips! Dark lighting: Bright lighting: However, it feels a tad stickier than my Dior and Victoria’s Secret glosses hence making it harder to apply on the lip and and also trickier to push the wand applicator back into the tube. That said, its thicker consistency also allowed it to be more resistant to fading. As mentioned earlier, the goal of this collection is to enhance your natural beauty so don’t expect a highly pigmented formula. I’ve applied the lip gloss on one side of my lips for your comparison. It’s a subtle difference but I’m still in love with the holographic shimmer and glass finish of the lip gloss. Would I buy it again? Definitely! 4.5 Honeyz crowns! But I guess that’s a hypothetical question for now as most of the products in the MAC Cinderella collection are sold out. And since it is a limited edition, it is highly unlikely that they will ever be restocked. Oh well. MAC Cinderella Beauty Powder in Mystery Princess According to MAC, this is a highlighter that is supposed to give the face a touch of radiance and make the skin look like it’s glowing from within. Honestly, I think this might be the collection’s weakest link. I know they are heading for the nude and natural route but this is way too natural – it’s like the Emperor’s new clothes! I can’t see a thing! Okay. Maybe a little. But if you’re looking to highlight your nose bridge for a more defined look. This will not do the job for you. I’ve applied the highlighter on one side of my face, namely t-zone, laugh lines and chin for your reference. Noticed any difference? And now both sides of the face. Yup. I’m sticking to my initial verdict – it doesn’t do much. It’s only redeeming quality is probably its adorable blue and gold packaging that looks great in my makeup pouch. 2 Honeyz crowns! MAC Cinderella Fluidline in Macroviolet It is not highly pigmented but it’s texture is rather buildable. With multiple swipes, a gorgeous violet shade forms. The alluring plum hue reminds me of Elsa’s makeup but a more wearable version of it which I’m totally a fan of. I’ve never worn gel liners so I was initially hesitant to purchase this – I don’t wanna accidentally glide the goo into my eyes or worst, (yup worst :P) look like I’ve got a black eye. The staff at the MAC store at Bugis junction were extremely helpful. They taught me how to wield an eyeliner brush for a more precise gel liner application. It’s actually pretty easy. Instead of smearing the product all over your lids, try coating the tip of the bristles with the gel liner and lightly tap the product on your lids. And voila! Angel winged eye corners! So I also added MAC’s 212 Flat Definer Brush and Brush Cleanser to my shopping bag. Whoa! This turned out to be an expensive purchase with all the add ons but it was all worth it. The gel liner (alone) fulfils my aesthetic, operational and budgetary requirements. Haha! I would totally buy this again (hypothetically again). 4 Honeyz crowns! This is the finished look.  So is there a huge difference? Erm.. not really. I guess it wasn’t such a bad decision that I missed the collection then. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying this MAC range is a cash grab ploy. The colors are truly spellbinding. I actually like how they are so long lasting and wearable but since this is a highly anticipated collection, I expected a lot more. So what do you think? “Who disturbs my slumber?” Team Bobbliana did! 😛 Last November, we decided to unleash the Disney Geek in us and revive the Disney Renaissance era with a plethora of Disney-inspired photos and a Disney themed wedding reception . I’ve covered Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast earlier in the blog and today, we’re going to take our magic carpet and transport into the land of Agrabah. I hope you’re excited! Whoosh! [df_divider el_width=”100″ style=”solid” accent_color=”#EEEEEE” border_t_width=”2px” padding=”20px 0″ position=”align_center” el_class=””] Wait! You can’t do an Aladdin shoot without the mischievous Abu, the Magic Lamp and our transporter, the flying carpet. So here are the stars of our show, Abu from eBay , Magic Carpet from Mustafa Centre and the Genie’s lamp from a store in Dubai. And now, we’re ready! Haha! Oh hang on a second. Not yet. What about the location? When I think of Aladdin, I think of sand, palm trees and warm tones. It is probably influenced by this scene in the movie. And since our wedding venue is situated along the East Coast Beach where there are a lot of palm trees and sand, it didn’t take us long to decide on the prime shooting location for our Aladdin series. 😛 The photoshoot was undertaken by my dear friend, my colleague, Yong Thye (of Sim Video ), without whom so much of what we planned simply would not have been possible. Our Wedding Day Unfortunately, we didn’t have a flying carpet on our wedding day, but we did have this very cool ride, courtesy of Bobby’s brother, Keeb. Whee! There my Aladdin was, looking suave in our “magic carpet”. *gushes* Aww… my brother giving his new brother-in-law a heartful hug. Please allow me to introduce to you – My beautiful princesses! And here’s Princess Jasmine giving Ali and his forty thieves, I mean, band of brothers, a hard time during the gatecrash segment. Their challenge? Sing-along to Aladdin’s theme song – A Whole New World! Haha! Yay! My Prince Ali proved himself! And off we go to our Cave of Wonders! Besides the magical oil lamp, whimsical flying carpet and Aladdin’s partner-in-crime Abu, there’s still another hero in Disney’s Aladdin. Can you guess what it is? Yup. It’s the beautiful star-filled sky which adorns every scene. It’s like the film’s defining feature and it’s shown a thousand times in the movie and is even used in its promotional posters and music videos. So we decided to sprinkle our wedding venue with twinkling stars by hanging more than 400 meters of fairy lights all over the garden. I’ll show you how they look in the evening. Now let’s check out the other areas first. The Reception My beautiful Princess Bridesmaids have now all turned into Tinkerbells, manning the registration table and charming the guests with their megawatt smiles. My lovely cousin, Poh Lin, doing what she does best, decorating our fairytale lane with photos and introducing everyone to our ‘Pont des Arts’ Wedding Guest Book. By placing a lock on the famous love bridge together, couples immortalize their love for one another. On our guestbook, our guests too can express their blessing and love for us by writing a special message and attaching it to our frame with a love lock. And here’s the result! Do you like it? We all know how it can feel as guests at a wedding, waiting to be seated and for the festivities to begin. Sure canapés would be served during this time, but it would be nice to have something else entertain our guests, to keep the tempo up and keep interests piqued for our big entrance. And thus the idea of having a magician at the wedding was born. Meet our Genie, Alexander ! The Aladdin table! I bought some magic lamp place card holders for the table but I didn’t think it looked “Aladdin” enough. So our wedding planner, Beth, came up with the brilliant idea of placing gorgeous gold candle holders and white lanterns to amp up the Aladdin factor. The result was spectacular! No one comes between me and my coffee. ☕ Pardon the histrionics. Since the inception of my photo studio, the early call times and physical demands at work have made my aromatic coffee and I the best-est of friends. Haha! Sometimes I wish I could just carry my beloved caffeinated friend everywhere I go to keep those sleepy peepers ajar. If you’re wondering, I have brought different tumblers to work but my drinks usually either turn cold after a couple of hours or leak through the lids. Nasty! But guess what? Trust me, I’ve personally tested the tumbler on both my hot coffee and cold juices and the temperature is as constant as the northern star. I’m already looking forward to bringing my trusty Minnie tumbler on my winter holidays later this year to not only keep my beverages warm but for hot water bottle refills too. This means I can stay warm inside and out! Whoopee! In case you’re wondering, the tumbler can hold up to 350ml of water and is almost as light as a feather at 170g. Occasionally, you may also spot your favorite quotes from the film in the palette such as these ones below! “We’re all mad here.” When you lift the lid and open up these little doors, a three-dimensional butterfly springs up! Oh gosh! Is that the Blue Catepillar from the fairytale? “Who…. R…. U…?” Sorry, I can’t resist. 😛 Pull the handle and and it’ll reveal this little drawer of treasures. Psst! They are arranged by character in columns from left to right: Alice, Mad Hatter, Mirana, Iracebeth and Time. The previous Book Of Shadows palette came packaged with a mini vial of the brand’s iconic Primer Potion and two mini eye pencils. This new Alice Through the Looking Glass palette replaced them with four new shades and a double-ended brush instead. I’m happy with this new combination since the pigment of the eyeshadows already seem very potent so I don’t really need a primer to bring out the hue. This collection features UD’s Pigment Infusion System, that gives every shade a velvety texture, rich color and high staying power. Now let’s take a closer look at the eyeshadows! Alice Mad Hatter Mirama, The White Queen Iracebeth, The Red Queen Time (A peculiar creature who is part human, part clock) So what do you think? To help you complete the fairytale look, the collection also comes with five matching limited edition lipsticks, inspired by the key characters of the film. The lipstick variants took their cues from the enthralling characteristics of Alice, Mad Hatter, Mirana, Iracebeth and Time. Now let’s get up close with these gorgeous colors! Iracebeth You may have noticed the precipitation of fat globules on the lipstick bullet. It’s probably due to the steamy heat from our hot climate but don’t fret! The color remained vibrant and did not melt even as I swatched it on my arm. The Mad Hatter Lipstick also had some globule-like sightings but the application felt the same, it was smooth and easy to apply. I actually destroyed it slightly in my excitement to try out the lipstick quickly. Nonetheless, the color is still very pretty! Mad Hatter On first glide, the color didn’t seem as intense as Iracebeth’s, but it’s rather buildable. It starts off as a sheer tint of purple and gradually intensifies into a bright purple finish with repeated strokes. “It’s always tea time!” If I had a world of my own, I would love to have tea everyday with the loveable Mad Hatter and March Hare! But who says I can’t realize my whimsical daydreams in the studio while at work? Hence, I officially declare that it’s  Alice in Wonderland Week  at Honeyz Paint House  this week! Haha! This week, I will be checking into Wonderland with my five limited-edition Urban Decay Alice Through the Looking Glass Lipsticks that are dedicated to the enthralling characteristics of Alice, Mad Hatter, Mirana (the White Queen), Iracebeth (the Red Queen) and Time, a peculiar creature who is part human, part clock. I kept my eye makeup to a bare minimum (no mascara or eyeliners, just good ol’ Lolita Lashes ) to draw attention to my fairytale lip colours. For this collection, Urban Decay explored all ends of the colour spectrum from sheer nude with a pink shift and bright red matte to gunmetal-navy with silver shimmer, these shades range from classic to edgy. Of course, I’m also a huge fan of their rich and bold payout that gives the right amount of drama to the whole fairytale inspired look. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. – Alice And one of the ‘impossible things’ that has happened this year was being invited to the Alice Through The Looking Glass Movie Premiere! *happy dance* Never thought I’ll ever attend a Disney Movie Premiere – now I can finally cross this off my bucket list. 😛 And of course, I brought my Prince Charming (or Mad Hatter) to the screening too! An Alice In Wonderland event is never complete without a tea party. Guests were invited to a Mad Hatter themed tea reception where we got to savour delectable desserts and aromatic teas in cute Alice in Wonderland tea cups. The disney geek in us was reeling with excitement, I tell you! Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better – we spotted some cool beauty booths by Disney’s official event partners, Urban Decay and OPI and got to experience a mini makeover by their beauty wizards. Now we’re officially on cloud nine. Besides collaborating with these international beauty brands, Disney also supported our local artisans by partnering them on exclusive collections, inspired by the movie, Alice Through the Looking Glass. One such label was RÊVASSEUR . They actually left a deep impression on me during the  Fashion Steps Out Runway Show earlier this year with their circus themed styles. Guess what? They are back with another vivacious collection to rock the local fashion scene. And this time, they drew inspiration from none other than Alice In Wonderland! Alice Through The Looking Glass Movie After the runway show, we were ushered to the IMAX theatre to catch the 3D version of the new Alice Through The Looking Glass movie. Yep. That was how big the screen was. B looks like he just ate an ‘EAT ME’ cookie from the fairytale. Haha! The screening opened with the new Beauty and the Beast teaser trailer which totally set the tone right in the fairytale direction. I’ve seen the trailer many times on my computer and TV, but watching it on the IMAX screen just brought it to a whole new level. I could feel goosebumps rising under my skin when the the opening number by Alan Menken was played. 😛 Th teaser was followed by a slew of Disney trailers for their upcoming movies – BFG, Pete’s Dragon, etc. I can tell you it was like a dream come true for our Disney-loving hearts. It was amazing to sit through a bunch of iconic Disney teasers, then watch one of their biggest movies this year. Alice Through The Looking Glass is definitely better than its predecessor, Alice In Wonderland. Besides the heightened CGI effects, we also got a meatier plot where we got to explore history and learn how the characters became who they were.
