Last year I had a lot of fun looking at OSIM’s Christmas delights and many of their relaxing pampering goodies have become favorites in our household. Anytime I feel the neck tightness mounting from hours of sitting in front of the laptop, instead of popping a pill I can now pop on the uScalp to massage away that tension. Perfect! So it was with considerable enthusiasm that I attended OSIM’s latest product launch event for the remarkable OSIM uLove 2 (4手天王) massage chair. I knew we would be in for a treat, but the evening OSIM had prepared for us completely blew away my expectations! Being a local brand, it made sense that OSIM welcomed us with a spread of delectable goodies from other local brands. Hubby was enjoying himself munching on moreish Laksa and Cereal Prawn flavored cookies by Old Seng Choong while I enjoyed sipping on some delicately scented TWG teas and canapés. OSIM had set up two themed zones for us to enjoy before the event began proper. In the Lifestyle Zone, I enjoyed some blissful hand massages with products from Sabon and experimented with scents to create the perfect fragrance for my home courtesy of Oo La Lab. If only chemistry classes in school were this enjoyable! Finally in the Experience Zone, I came face to face with the star of the show, the OSIM uLove 2 massage chair! I was immediately struck by the lovely hand crafted peony flower design on the body of the chair that would surely look gorgeous in any home! For OSIM, however, this was just the start of the evening! Things were about to really take off! With my favorite gal Cindy , I was escorted to a check-in counter and issued a boarding pass for a first class flight onboard ‘OSIM Airlines’. You heard right, OSIM Airlines! This wasn’t a real flight of course, but a fabulously lavish setup to allow us to really experience the first class luxury the OSIM uLove 2 can offer. After check-in, we were each greeted by our very own personal flight attendant who would be taking care of us for the entire duration of the flight. I’m pictured here with Helen, my chaperone for the night. After a brief wait in OSIM’s VIP first class lounge, we were ready to board our flight! We were all awed by the attention to detail as we found ourselves walking through rows of chairs akin to a real flight, albeit a lot more luxurious. Think spa in the sky and you’ll be on the right track. My personal flight attendant, Helen, guided me to my seat, which of course happened to be the super luxurious OSIM uLove 2 massage chair, and after an announcement from our pilot, the flight to OSIM Paradise was ready to take off! Woohoooo!! Helen made sure my every need was meticulously attended to, ensuring I was just the right temperature, that I was comfortable and I could hear quiet muffled whispers all around me, the sounds of other flight attendants taking care of their guests. As I sank into the plush quilted leather of the OSIM uLove 2 massage chair, I was encapsulated in soothing ambient background music while a heated sleeping eye mask soothed my strained peepers. This flight into nirvana was really taking off! Now this chair is one smart cookie, rather than just subject me to a standard massage for all, it actually started to calibrate itself to my body by detecting the position of my shoulders and joints to ensure the massage would be perfectly tuned to my body. As the massage started, I could immediately feel the tension being eased out of my stiff joints. After a visit to the hair salon earlier in the day, I had been nursing a seriously stiff neck and could feel a migraine creeping up on me. I need not have worried though, as the OSIM uLove 2 did its magic, I could really feel my stiff neck dissolve away. I was in heaven! The massage felt very different to anything I had experienced on previous massage chairs, applying pressure to multiple different areas, it felt a lot more comprehensive and also a lot more like what you might come to expect from a professional masseuse. I also came to realize that this was not just a massage chair but more like an all-in-one relaxation and personal entertainment center. With speakers embedded into the sofa on either side of your head, you can enjoy wireless Bluetooth 3D music from your phone or even enjoy your favorite movies with cinema like surround sound, while an entertainment stand holds your phone or tablet so you don’t have to. You can even use the OSIM uLove 2 app to control the massage settings, sync new massage programs and download music tailored to complement your relaxing massage session. Of course no flight would be complete without in-flight dining. Our courteous and attentive personal flight attendants served us some fine refreshments to leave no first class stone unturned on this journey to OSIM Paradise! Alas, all good things must come to an end. As the flight touched down I felt refreshed and invigorated, something I’ve never felt coming out of a real flight. In true jet-setter style, the pilot announced our safe arrival at our exotic paradise destination with local time and outside temperature before we disembarked the flight! It was so real I was worried I was going to be asked to fill in an immigration form before leaving the plane! 😛 I might have been wondering whether an OSIM uLove2 was worth it before the flight, but after the event, all I could think of was where in my house it should go! Challenging isn’t a word you’d really want to associate with Christmas but that’s not to say there isn’t a silver lining to this festive cloud. How unpredictable life can be is what makes it so great but also so scary at times. I’ve been down with the usual season flu but when a few close loved ones fell really sick, it really reminded me of how fragile life can be. A timely reminder about where I should be focusing my energies. Time lost with loved ones can never be recouped, so despite their sickness, I’m glad it forced me to self reflect and reopen my eyes to what’s really important. I guess in the game of life, we never stop learning and it’s really brought me so much closer to my husband and everyone else in my life. Working with my RESCU team only further reinforces this belief. I’ve had several business ventures over the years but with RESCU, I can really feel the difference. Never before have I had grateful mothers and children hugging me and thanking me from the bottom of the hearts, it’s a truly wonderful feeling and motivates me to want to do more. It’s our first CNY running our house call medical service so we literally had no idea whether anyone would call but they did and we found ourselves seeing families, uncles with flu, aunts with tummy pains and even one granny who had left hospital to come home in time for CNY because it meant that much to her! Driving home at 5AM after seeing a little baby with a stubborn fever in the early hours of day two of CNY, instead of feeling exhausted, I felt humbled and exhilarated by the rewarding experience of being able to help people with RESCU. I never in a million years thought that one day I’d be driving around Singapore in the wee hours of the morning, entering the homes of strangers trying to help people, but now that I have, it’s definitely a new CNY tradition I’d like to continue. Tiring? Possibly. Worth it? Definitely! But the icing on the cake for me was of course spending time with family! My family has been nothing but supportive throughout it all and we even celebrated CNY early so we could continue running RESCU during the festive season! Maybe you’re driving cross-country to go to a friend’s wedding, and since you’ve reached your destination early you decide to explore the surrounding area. Or perhaps you’re flying internationally and your connecting flight gets cancelled, so you have to wait nearly a whole day to catch the next available one. Lucky you! While most travelers hate any sort of layover, you should view them as a fortunate opportunity to explore someplace new ! Whether your layover locale is rural or urban, domestic or foreign, don’t miss an opportunity to go sightseeing in an unexpected place—even if you only have a few hours to do it. Here are a few tips on how to make the most of your city-exploring in under 24 hours! Take A Few Moments to Plan Okay! So you’ve decided that you’re going to ditch the airport or your hotel room and see what this mysterious new place has to offer. You might be in a total rush to get out there and explore. But if you want to make the most of the limited time you have, you should take a few minutes to make a game plan. First, you need to determine the basic characteristics of the area. Ask yourself these questions: Are you in an urban or rural area? Is the area small or large? Is there sightseeing or tourist-centric places? Is everything close together or spread out? These questions will help you plan a short itinerary or to-do list. If you’re in a big city, there are bound to be plenty of fun shops, restaurants, and neighborhoods to dive into. If you’re in a rural area, there might be some beautiful scenic areas where you can take lovely pictures. If you’re in an area known for big tourist attractions (like New York City or London), you might be interested in doing some of those. If you’re in a smaller, less-travelled part of the world, you might have to find places and activities that are preferred by the locals. Talks to Locals Regardless of where you are, talking to locals is a great way to figure out the best things to do and places to see. Obviously, locals know the area better than you do. They’ll be able to point out the best things to do and places to visit. Even better, locals can point you toward lesser-known places and activities that aren’t often enjoyed by visitors. Locals can also save you time and money by telling you which places are uninteresting or overrated. No one wants to waste time at an attraction that’s overcrowded with tourists or isn’t as fun as it’s advertised. Locals can steer you away from these activities. More importantly, they can tell you if there are any unsafe neighborhoods that you should avoid while exploring. Find a Map Obtaining a map of the city is the final step in the planning stage. Most people nowadays can use their GPS, but some folks still prefer a paper map. Paper maps could be advantageous because they’re often designed for out-of-towners and they can point out fun things to do (you’ll also preserve your phone’s battery). However, there are plenty of travel apps that are just as accessible. Use your map to get an overview of the area you’ll be exploring, and chart out where all the things you want to do are located. Depending on the size of the area, you may get to do all of them, or only some. Circular Movements If you’re exploring a large area, like a big city or rural expanse, one of the best ways to go about your venture is to move in a big circle. You want to avoid randomly moving back and forth across the whole city because that’ll waste a lot of time. Moving in a circle will take you around most parts of the city, and you’ll ultimately return to the exact place you started. Have the Right Gear Wherever you’re travelling, it’s important that you have the right travel gear . You’ll be in pretty good shape if your luggage is being transferred by the airport, or if you have a car in which you can stuff your travel bags. If not, you’ll have to haul your bags wherever you go. Consider travelling with a backpacking bag . These are heavy-duty bags designed hold a large supply of travel essentials, and you can ergonomically wear them on your back. Make sure that you also have comfortable clothing! If you’re going to be trekking around all day, you’ll want to wear you comfiest shirt, pants, and—most importantly—shoes. Slip on sneakers or tennis shoes are perfect for city exploring and are also stylish so your Instagram posts will be off the charts. So get out there and explore! You might not be able to get to some fun attractions, but you’ll most likely find fun things to do that you didn’t know existed. And we’re calling it the “Dreams Really Do Come True” Cinematic Wedding Trailer which gives you a glimpse of the key events of our nuptials such as the traditional Chinese tea ceremony (spot the Hello Kitty tea set!), our Disney-inspired ensembles, the legendary Sleeping Beauty Castle cake and the various Disney ornaments and decor. Of course, we can’t forget the ‘Fairytale-Gone-Wrong’ gatecrash mayhem that the groomsmen had to go through. Haha! Also, I want to give a HUGE and special shout out to my amazing bridesmaids, Ashlyn, Jo, Jeslyn, Tiffany and Alice for investing an enormous amount of your precious time to plan the Hens Night, gatecrash and practice the surprise dance for B. You even offered to pay for the limo! *sobs* Thank you for being so supportive all the way and making sure that everything is in keeping with my Disney theme. You are the best bridesmaids, friends and sisters! But! I regret to say that we’re no longer Best Friends Forever (BFFs). Because we’re now Best Family Forever! Love you all! And to Bobby’s Wolf Pack (Band of Brothers), I can’t thank you enough for flying all the way to Hong Kong and throwing an incredible bachelor party for B (AND making sure that it did not turn into another episode of The Hangover :P) as well as for enduring the heat at my corridor in your suits while acceding to all my bridesmaids challenging requests!
