In this edition of My Bridal Beauty Log, I visited up-and-coming beauty establishment – Phoenix La Beaute and tried their signature Universal Contour Wrap that is highly commended by the likes of Paula Abdul, Katherine Heigl and many other famous names. The A-list beauty treatment turned me into a mummy, then an astronaut and finally a slimmer bride-to-be. The results are nothing short of astonishing – No tricky diets or insane workouts involved. 😛 Well, I hope I’ve made you sit up and and take notice. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the fresh scent oozing from the flower stands that were kindly gifted by their partners and customers to celebrate the official opening of their new premises. Note: They have yet to update their new location details on their website. It states that they are at the basement but their new address is #03-01. The browns and golds created an opulent yet welcoming atmosphere that was absolutely soothing to the soul. The luxuriousness does not end here. Their bathroom also boast a lavish interior with shiny glass basins and classy rain shower features. There are also roomy lockers to store your personal belongings! Contact lens wearers rejoice! On top of those mentioned, Phoenix La Beaute also provide contacts solutions and cases so you don’t have to discard your lenses should you forget to bring your lens care products. 🙂 I was asked to wait in the consultation room before their Specialist Mentor, Michelle, attended to me. While waiting, I spotted these and felt a sense of relief. Haha! Given the recent drama about facial treatments, it’s difficult not to be skeptical abut new spas. However, I felt relieved after seeing their numerous awards, even if they weren’t official government awards. 🙂 I also took some photos of my face before the treatments. I wore quite a bit of makeup as you can see from this photo with flash. The condition of the skin will be more obvious when I remove it later. So stick around! Good skin and a flattering body shape are my main beauty goals. Well, whose goals ain’t the same? 😛 After a detailed consultation with Michelle who’s had years of experience, she recommended a classic facial and their highly acclaimed Universal Contour Wrap for my beauty needs. In case you’re wondering what the novelty is – The Universal Contour Wrap is an all-natural sea clay based solution which claims to have scientifically proven inch loss effects as well as the ability to tone and tighten loose skin as well as expel toxins and impurities from the body. Ideal for reducing the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks. According to Michelle, I’ll be able to lose at least 6 inches if my BMI is 20 or more. Since my BMI is 19, she advised that inch loss may be subjective. But I decided to go ahead with the treatment anyway to experience its other goodness – removing toxins and tightening loose skin. I had to leave in a couple of hours for my next appointment so Michelle decided to combine the treatments and administer them personally for me. I was led to a room that was equipped with a mirror and these towel-like wraps. They ain’t towels! In fact, they are elasticated cotton bandages that were soaked in patented and highly effective warm dead sea clay that was developed meticulously 26 years ago by Dr Richard Strem. Before Michelle wrapped me like mummy, she applied an additional treatment booster on me to enhance the effects of the clay wrap. This is a bonus which is not in the Universal Contour Wrap package. It is priced at SGD58 should customers wish to add it to their treatment too. Michelle swirling the booster to prep it for the treatment. Thereafter, Michelle spread the booster all over my body evenly. Then she began to remove the wraps from the warm dead sea clay. She did not cover me with the wraps immediately as they are piping hot. Phoenix La Beaute usually soak their wraps in these clay solutions for a few hours before the treatment. She placed the wraps on the edge of the heater and to allow them cool off a bit before she began to dress me with the bandages, using special wrapping techniques that “lift” and “sculpt” the body as well as to flatten bulges. This slimming process works by compressing the soft tissue and cleanse the body of harmful toxins that are stored between the fat cells. Do you know that toxins take up precious space in the body??? So when the toxins are removed from the purifying effects of the clay the bandages that also compress the fatty tissues, it results in significant inch loss! Once I was ‘mummified’, Michelle made me wear a silver suit as seen below for an hour to maximise the effects of the dead sea clay. While waiting for the wraps to faithfully deliver their functions, I was led into another treatment room for my classic facial. Michelle proceeds to remove my makeup and cleanse them thoroughly with products from leading French beauty brand, Maria Galland Paris. And now it’s squeaky clean! Some of the key problems that Michelle identified are clogged pores and dehydrated skin. So she suggested a gentle blackhead removal process and a power cooling mask that supplements the skin with extra moisture. I definitely went with her recommendations. Hehe. The blackhead remover is similar to a pore pack except it does not leave nasty gum on your face and it is extremely effective in removing stubborn blackheads. Alright… Get ready to say eww… Blackheads extracted from the Blackhead Removal tape Haha! Told ya it was extremely effective. My blackheads were stamped out leaving my face looking smooth and clean again. After applying a nourishing toner, Michelle conducted a mini face massage on my face to allow maximum absorption of the nutrients as well as to relax my tired face muscles. A facial is never complete without a hydrating facial mask. Michelle proceeded to revive my dull skin with a moisture-rich mask from the Maria Galland line. First she placed a gauze sheet on my face, then began to spread a cooling mask over it. The rich infusion of moisture made my skin looked recharged and revitalised. I thought the texture was noticeably smoother and skin tone was also visibly more even. If you remember, I was still wearing my space suit. The wraps have dried up by now causing them to shrink and tighten. Honestly, it wasn’t a comfortable experience. But when Michelle removed the bandages from my body, I thought it was all worth it because the result – a whopping 6 inches loss! Yay! Michelle said she was surprised that the wraps still worked despite my low BMI. According to her, the results can last for at least 30 days. Most slimming treatments rely on water loss to achieve slimming goals. I was never a fan of such programs so I was very glad to know that Universal Contour Wrap is not dependent on dehydrating methods but assumes a comprehensive program of targeted treatments and sculpting methods that uses natural ingredients. You’ve seen the photos, now meet the talented ladies behind the gorgeous hair and makeup of our Honeyzcube Belles photoshoot – A Square Visual Studio ! Two months ago, I had this idea to introduce our Honeyz Cube Belles formally with photos to depict what they each stand for and also the brands that they’ll be representing. Everything was in place. The photographer… Our Creative Director (and also Alchemist), Yong Thye The models… Me, Tiffany and Rusty. The location… The props… But something was obviously missing from the picture… Wait a minute! It’s the hair and makeup! How can we forget the most imperative component of our photo shoot! There are specific looks that I wanted to create for each personality – to represent their specialities. The Polymath – A look that was fun yet sophisticated to show off her multi-faceted expertise on beauty and fashion. The Artist – Needless to say, an artistic look to magnify her flair for creating art through her brushes and palettes. The Purist – A clean and graceful look to represent her determination to seek out pure, clean and clear skin. Even though we are beauty bloggers, it is still as difficult as nailing jelly to a tree to lug all those props around, set up the lights, do our makeup and look picture perfect all before we left the studio in a couple of hours. So finding a team of professional hair and makeup artists became my absolute goal a week before the photoshoot. I was going through my list of posts when I chanced upon these posts that I published a year ago. Remember I worked with the Indie Pop duo of A Square Visual Studio and produced these imageries? Not only did they take the photos, they also created the looks for my Roman Holiday-themed photoshoot. So inviting the lovely ladies of A Square Visual Studio to the photoshoot was a no-brainer. I was extremely lucky to have the chance to work with them again because they brought with them great ideas for the shoot as well as gorgeous makeup and hair accessories for our intended looks. Ada and Aki of A Square Visual Studio working their magic on our ‘Artist’! The A Square ladies also took the chance to take some ‘backstage’ photos of the set up and our makeup process. On the day of the shoot, I had a ginormous angry zit sitting on the side of my face. So I wasn’t feeling too good about myself. Yeah… That’s what pimples do to girls. Bleh! Aki, my makeup artist of the day, made sure I regained all my confidence by skilfully hiding the pimple with foundation and lots of concealer! Scram, annoying acne! Kudos to Aki, my skin looked flawless and velvety smooth during the photoshoot! Aww… I love the hair Ada created for me. It looked soft and wavy – just like Belle of Beauty and the Beast! 😛 I received many compliments on Instagram about my hairdo for the photoshoot too. Ada is a genius! Camera, lights and action! Gobbling lunch while testing the lighting. The artist doing her thing. Props to the props! :p A few words to describe our shoot – laughter and liveliness aplenty! We had a wonderful time bantering with the A Square ladies, playing with the unusual props and taking amazing photos! The photos turned out pretty well too. Sponsored Review Since I got engaged a few months ago, I’ve been enjoying the whole notion of being a bride-to-be – fantasizing about the perfect dress, sweet-smelling flowers, gorgeous cakes as well as the breath-taking setting for my special day. But have I forgotten something? Yes. The radiant glow of love and happiness that is becoming of every bride. So achieving luminous wedding-day skin now transcends everything else on my wedding list. 😛 A fab way to start is to devise a solid grooming routine. I’m embarking on my Bridal Beauty journey with non-invasive KPL treatments, flaunted as the successor to IPL, to nurture and rejuvenate my skin for the big day. Click to read the first entry of My Bridal Beauty Log. 🙂 I’m a huge advocate of IPL treatments as they are the safest short-cut to smooth and hairless skin. However, there may be some recovery time needed as they may cause redness or darkening of pigmentation right after the treatment. Such symptoms usually subside after a week. Well, I’m not prepared to take the risk of leaving it too last minute. So to ensure that my face looks picture-perfect on my wedding day, I scheduled a series of monthly IPL treatments 12 months before my big day. Haha! And I’m entrusting the big task to Regina Hair Removal Specialist, who were recently bestowed the ‘Best Hair Removal Service’ title by Blissful Brides magazine. I decided if I want to reap the full benefits of the treatment, I’ll have to do it with the expert. As their name suggests, Regina Hair Removal Specialist is a hair removal salon that utilises a more effective IPL technology known as Krypton Pulsed Light (KPL). What is KPL? And how does it differ from IPL? Well, for starters, Krypton Pulsed Light has nothing to do with the birthplace of Superman. KPL is an advanced FDA-approved, patented pulsed light technology which delivers higher performance with reduced side effects compared to traditional IPL devices. Sounds like a marvel of beauty ingenuity, eh? KPL uses intense light energy to safely and effectively remove unwanted hair from any parts of the body, putting an end to routine shaving and waxing. The light energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, melanin, which is then converted to heat. The heat damages the hair follicle and destroys its ability to re-grow without harming the surrounding tissues. I have some obvious hairs and acne scars on my lip and chin areas so I was really looking forward to it as the results would be pretty noticeable. Joanne, Assistant Manager of Regina, personally administered the treatment for me. Before she began, she conducted a patch test on the area near my collar bone. It was a mandatory procedure for all first-time KPL treatment customers. My skin was fine after the test so Joanne went ahead with the treatment. The hair above the surface of the skin were all trimmed away before Joanne thoroughly cleaned my skin with a cleanser. Then she spread a specially formulated cooling gel with whitening properties to prep the skin for the KPL treatment later. Joanne was extremely thoughtful. Not only did she provide the usual eye wear to prevent light exposure to the eyes, she also placed a thick towel over my eyes for extra protection. 😀 The KPL treatment was administered by placing a special probe on the skin while light-based energy is emitted in highly controlled pulses destroying the hair follicles. The process was quick and painless. I was done within 5 minutes! Thereafter, Joanne wiped the gel away and applied an aftercare moisturizing essence to the treated area to soothe the skin after treatment. Joanne explained that the hair may grow again after a few days but they will fall out after two weeks. She advised avoiding the sun as much as possible and highly recommended the use of sun screen on days that I go out and about over the next few days. After the treatment… It’s been weeks since my treatment and I haven’t suffered any side effects. My skin also looked brighter and smoother. There was no sign of facial hair on the treated areas too. I was very satisfied with the results so I went back for more. 😛 This time, I chose their Face Rejuvenation treatment to create that natural glow on the face. Face Rejuvenation treatment is also conducted with the KPL technology. Besides removal of unwanted hair, KPL can treat a wide variety of skin problems by stimulating the skin to produce more collagen, plumping out the skin and making it appear younger. Some of the skin problems that the Face Rejuvenation treatment can address include: – Age and sun damage spots – Pigmentation and blemishes – Fine lines and wrinkles – Acne – Rosacea – Large pores – Uneven skin tone and texture The Face Rejuvenation procedure is similar to that of the KPL hair removal treatment that I did earlier. The only difference is the gel that they used for the treatment. Instead of whitening features, this cooling gel comes with Coenzyme Q10 to curb pesky free radicals and to prevent wrinkles. Regina also uses moisture-rich and gentle products from Estesophy to cleanse and tone the skin. Joanne then zapped away my gaping pores, freckles and fine lines with the KPL device. She noticed my deep neck wrinkles and also kindly extended the treatment to my neck area to smooth out the neck lines. 😀 Like the hair removal treatment, Joanne wiped the gel away, applied an aftercare moisturizing essence and wrapped my face with a cold towel to soothe the skin after treatment. Mummified! Joanne nourished my skin further with a whitening mask to revitalise, hydrate and brighten the skin. She prepped my face by placing a soft white sheet over my face. Then she covered my face with a thick layer of whitening mask. After the mask is dried, she removed the hardened mask and applied some toner and sunscreen on my face. Here’s the finished product. 😛 I was very happy with the results. My face was glowing with radiance and it was noticeably brighter and tighter. These great results lasted for weeks. The good service from the Regina folks, especially Joanne, is highly commendable. They were polite, accommodating and very thoughtful. They were also very well-informed about the latest beauty technology and products, constantly dispensing their beauty knowledge during the sessions. I was very grateful and picked up many beauty tips that day. I award 4.5 Honeyz crowns to Regina for their attentiveness and effective treatments that produce long-lasting results! Yay! Honeyz Cube achieved yet another notable milestone last month with the organization of our very first bloggers event – Honeyz Cube x HKCplaza Pamper Party! We wanted our maiden event to be as cozy and indulging as possible so instead of holding one Pamper Party, we held four over four weekends to accommodate and pamper a small number of girls each time. It was insane but totally worth it. More than 30 prominent bloggers in the beauty and fashion industry graced our event with their presence. Channelled my inner model with Yikeshu Photography yesterday. 😛 I was very impressed with their craft as they’ve captured angles of myself that I’d never even seen before. Eagle, photographer and co-founder of Yikeshu Photography actually gave me a pep talk before the shoot to give my self-esteem a little boost. And the final product? I would say – astounding.
