Goodbye static banner and hello interactive Honeyz Billboard! Hola Honeyz Belles! Since my last revamp in July last year, I haven’t done anything drastic to my blog design. However, as my blog grew in content and readership, I’ve also received numerous requests to place ads on my website. This has spurred me to tweak my blog design to accommodate these requests. Of course, I’m really happy to receive these requests but as a regular blog reader myself, I’ve also come to realize that websites that are cluttered with ads are a huge turn off. And as technology advances, I’ve also become less tolerant towards web pages that load too slowly or those that do not care about the art of information architecture. These websites and blogs may be informative but surfing and clicking through the websites to find information can be a huge headache. To avoid these web design pitfalls, I’ve always tried to keep the ads to the left side of the page and label my posts accordingly. But as most usability experts have advised – a website only has eight seconds to capture a visitor’s attention for them to browse the site further so this means the content on the header of the blog is the most crucial. Recently, I’ve also redesigned my Honeyz logo and changed it from this… … to this. To top it off, I’ve many great info on the best buys in town, exciting new online stores and exclusive Honeyz readers offers that I don’t want you to miss out on. So I’ve decided to make changes to my beloved web banner by removing the crown and heart motifs and replacing them with the brand new logo and a content slider that features the latest events, announcements and news in the shopping scene. This new banner is succinct and simpler and best of all, it reflects the interests of my readers and the direction that the blog is heading. I’ve kept my ‘diva-ish’ Honeyz mascot to retain the ‘ Honeyz Belle essence ‘ – a confident and intelligent woman of the 21st century who’s not afraid to express her desires, show off her charm and become the belle of every ball. 😛 I’ve named this new banner – Honeyz Billboard. Back in 2014, I gave it my all when I began planning my Disney-themed wedding . I practically used every waking moment to brainstorm ideas and fulfill wedding-related errands. You probably already know – I am over the moon at how the wedding turned out. However, due to the intense preparation process, I also began to rest on my laurels afterwards. I felt like I needed a lot of rest time after my nuptials and soon I found myself shopping more than working. Haha! I became complacent and was literally dragging my heels to work. Here comes the interesting part… Who would have ever thought shopping could be inspiring too? I was visiting one of my favorite fashion stores, Kate Spade, and somehow the little flamingoes and donut purses ignited a creative spark for a new project. That one shopping trip not only inspired me, it also helped me overcome my procrastination and see everyday objects in a different light. Before you know it, I was back at work planning Honeyz Cube ‘s new repertoire of services and products. And today, I’m very proud to present to you Honeyz Paint House , a unique and stylish new photo studio and lifestyle event space and YOUR very own getaway and creative retreat. Can’t believe our last update about #Bobblianahome was almost a year ago. To help you recall, this was our last post – Our New Home . And now, it’s time for another #Bobblianahome entry to clue you in on our latest developments. Yay! You last heard we were going to update all the fixtures, lightings and appliances and our plans included – creating a Dolby Atmos home theatre, getting a convertible dining/pool table, building a fireplace and many many more!Can’t forget – also styling the ultimate Girl Cave! Haha! Well, we did get a dining/pool table and a fireplace but to create a a Dolby Atmos home theatre, we’ll need to upgrade our electrical system and rewire the entire house. The project is a home-tastrophe, I tell you! This means our house will need to check into design rehab and get a complete makeover. Initially, we wanted to take matters into our own hands and design the place ourselves. It can’t be that hard, can it? So we started picking our brains to conceptualize everything, from the shelves to the faux ceilings. Well, of course our design didn’t take into account important structural factors that impact the existing concealed pipes and wire system. Another important component is project management. We had to draw up a comprehensive construction schedule with all our prospective contractors. This we reckon, is going to upset our stress meter even further. Finally, we decided to hand all our designs to an Interior Designer our friends recommended and guess what? He came up with some pretty badass 3D drawings within weeks! I thought it would be fun to show you what they look like before we embark on this crazy Interior Designing ride. Click to check out the photos! We wanted a cozy European setting so our designer added a touch of modern Edwardian elements in the designs. Here we go! The faux fireplace truly brought the magic of Christmas into our home and was an extra special treat for my hubby, reminiscent of his days as a little boy growing up in the UK. I always appreciate beauty brands that go the extra mile to ensure the freshness of their products. Of course, the second thing that caught my attention was the aromatic rose fragrance. Take a deep whiff and you’ll feel instantly calm and relaxed too. Since the toner does not contain alcohol, it does not leave a squeaky clean effect on the skin. In fact, the product feels a little more viscous than normal causing the skin to feel slightly tacky to the touch during the first few minutes of application. Toners are meant to balance your skin’s pH levels and act as an astringent to minimise the appearance of your pores. Honestly, I don’t have have sufficient info to prove that the ingredients in this product will balance your pH levels. In fact, skin should be able to balance itself out so that’s not an issue. Also, since the product does not contain alcohol, it’s is definitely not acting as an astringent here. However, I like that the toner contains a beneficial array of skin-reparative and moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin, sodium hyaluronate and even snail secretion filtrates. However, the feeling lasted only seconds as the greasiness was quickly replaced by a smooth finish after a few gentle rubs. Just a few drops each time and my skin stays hydrated all day. Imagine my confusion when I saw the actual toner in the packaging. So what is this? After reading the label, I realised it’s simply a moisturiser. (Oh yeah! Long before the Japanese referred their toners as lotions, lotions were actually moisturisers.) The texture of the lotion is significantly thicker. Despite its higher viscosity, the product was absorbed by my skin pretty quickly, leaving behind a nice smooth sheen. Long lasting hydrating properties should be non-negotiable in a lotion and since the product delivered just that, I give it a huge thumbs up! My only gripe is the absence of a pump feature to dispense the product. This is what happens when I try to draw the lotion from the tiny opening of the bottle everytime. Besides the lack of pumping mechanism, the lotion works pretty well for me. Here’s a quick comparison of my face before and after using the Real Rose products. Beautiful hair, impeccable makeup and heavenly ballgowns are indisputably hallmarks of a Disney princess! Hmm… Seems like I got everything covered for the wedding. *happy dance* Oh wait? I think I forgot something. Aww… I sure did. Every Disney princess also has a lovely set of pearly white teeth to mesmerise their Prince Charming. If you’re a fellow city-dweller, you probably would find this all too familiar in the mornings – the alarm clock screaming in the middle of your sweetest dreams resulting in you waking up in shock and jumping out of bed to get ready while still feeling rather asleep. Come on! Who brushes their teeth with their eyes closed too? Then to fight off that doziness, you gulp down a soothing fragrant cup of coffee – EVERY weekday morning. And the ramification of that? Not only do you feel more alert, you’re also one step closer to looking like the Wicked Witch of the West instead. Gulp! So to make sure my bridal beauty routine did not go down in flames, I decided to seek the help of my dental Godmother,  Theresa Beauty , to help with the teeth discolouration problem. And guess what? In the space of just a few weeks, the change was remarkable! Hubby and I felt our gnashers could even be worthy of Colgate’s next toothpaste ad. Haha! Psst! Whoopee! Every treatment is preceded by a consultation session to evaluate the current state of your teeth and also to explain the procedures of the treatment. The Consultation Room Our tooth shade was measured based on this teeth color chart. According to Sandra, besides food and drinks that are high in tannins, aging can also cause teeth to yellow. As we age, the outer layer of enamel on your teeth gets thinner due to wear and tear which eventually unveils the natural yellow colour of dentin. And of course, other factors that affect the color of our teeth includes smoking, genetics as well as poor dental hygiene. Now, let’s assess our dental situation. 😛 My teeth was a Shade 14 before the treatment. While B’s at Shade 30 due to his uncontrollable love for Coke Zero. Tsk tsk! For best results, we were told we need to ‘start with a clean slate’. So we were given these cleaning wipes to remove all the gunk on the surface of our teeth. We were also given these cool safety glasses to protect our eyes from the light beams of the LED treatment later. Guess our new sci-fi hero! 😛 Cyclops of X- Men 😛 Thereafter, we were introduced to these tools to kick off our treatments of the day. 🙂 Sandra squirted the whitening gel, that was specially formulated by Theresa Beauty, on the mouthpiece before placing them in our mouths. And we went from looking like superheroes to the Titans from Attack on Titan. Haha! To be honest, I wasn’t the most comfortable due to a painful teeth whitening experience at another beauty salon several years back that left me wary of harsh chemical whitening treatments. Sandra assured me that the treatment would not trigger the same side effects I experienced before as Theresa Beauty’s whitening gel does not contain harsh ingredients such as hydrogen peroxide. In fact, its imbued with natural ingredients such as sodium bicarbonate (aka baking soda) which is also its key whitening agent. Besides removing stains, the gel can also neutralize and counteract bacterial acids in the mouth too. Yay! However, no man is an island. The gel needs to work in tandem with Theresa Beauty’s latest Light-Emitting Diode (LED) technology in order to react with the enamel, penetrate the pores and break down the discolouration molecules in the teeth. Hence, the next step was to place this LED device a few centimetres away from our teeth for 30 minutes. The blue beam would activate the properties of the gel and allow it to perform its task more effectively. And now we wait. 🙂 It was a rather comfortable process as you can probably tell from the photo above. I was falling asleep! The only thing I felt was the warm sensation from the light source. Okay, there was one thing that I didn’t exactly enjoy – the saliva gathering at my mouth throughout the treatment. The staff at Theresa Beauty assured me that it was perfectly fine to swallow my saliva but since I didn’t really like the idea of ingesting the whitening gel, I allowed it to accumulate in my mouth. Eek! To make sure I don’t stay uncomfortable for too long, our thoughtful therapists were already on standby with water and a tray, minutes before the treatment alarm on the LED device went off to allow me to discard the saliva immediately. And then, we were done! Well, I guess it was all worth it as my teeth was visibly four shades lighter after the 30 minutes treatment. And so had B’s. We were still five weeks away from our wedding so Sandra suggested that we come back for another treatment in four weeks to improve the treatment results further. And we did and guess what? My teeth is now at Shade 8. Whee! And B’s at Shade 16 – a whopping 14 shades lighter! After the treatment, the kind folks at Theresa Beauty not only gave us a complete teeth whitening home kit, they also conveyed their well wishes for our wedding with this cute flower and a beautifully handwritten greeting card.
