Here’s what I think about the new formula… Guess what. The first sunscreen I ever bought was Sunplay’s Super Block sunscreen. That was probably more than a decade ago. Since then, I’ve always brought my trusty Sunplay sunscreen for frolicking at the beach. You may be wondering why I’ve been such a loyal fan. Well, it is because it is the first sun block lotion I’ve ever know that does not have a viscous texture. When I was a young girl, I never understood why mommy always applied this white, thick and greasy substance (sunblock lotion) on me whenever we go swimming or head out to the beach. Sometimes, I think it even ruins my mood for good fun as I will become sweaty and sticky very quickly. Of course, I blame it all on that white substance. Mom is a beauty junkie and she’ll always explain the importance of layering on that sunblock before we go baking in the sun. I understood her good intentions but still hated the sunblock. So as I got older and started to earn my own keep, I began to search for beauty products that suit me and my skin. And the first product I bought? Sunplay! Its texture is extremely light and it is absorbed very quickly into the skin after application. It is the same with the new and improved Sunplay with SOLAREX-3. Nothing has changed except its enhanced sun protection features. That chemical smell is still there but it disappears shortly after application. However, I realized I tend to apply too much sunscreen because if its ultra light texture. And when I do, it produces this white cast over my skin. So how much sunscreen should you apply? As stated in this post – In theory, you should use approximately two milligrams of sunscreen per square centimeter of skin. In practice, this means applying two tablespoons of sunscreen to the exposed areas of the face and body – a 50-cent sized dollop to the face alone. The sunscreen causes minor break outs on my acne prone skin so I only use it on my body. The SPF PA+++ 130 is ideal for long hours in the sun. I get sunburns rather easily and once, it got so bad that I could peel my skin off like a rattlesnake. So thumbs up to its high SPF! Though I still highly recommend you to reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially after swimming. Overall, a great sunblock packed into a small bottle. 4 Honeyz crowns! An afternoon with celebrity stylist Judy Lin! A month ago, I was invited by Beauty Bistro to guest model in their Beauty DIY event for the”Love That Body” Bodycare segment. I was told that Judy Lin 林叶亭, a veteran fashion beauty and celebrity stylist from Taiwan, will be demonstrating the brightening properties of the SHILLS Bubble Body Scrub on me. *Incredibly honored* In case you don’t know of Judy Lin, she’s a beauty and styling consultant who is a regular guest on Taiwan’s number one beauty program Nu Ren Wo Zui Da (女人我最大). She has worked with countless Taiwanese celebrities and created many great looks for them. She is also an author with many top-selling beauty books to her name! Here she is! Psst! She’s 45 years old this year and a mother of two lovely boys. And she still looks fab! Henceforth, I’m gonna listen more attentively to her beauty tips on 女人我最大. 😛 So here I am at the event which was held in Jurong Point. The crazy backstage The products With fellow guest model, Sharon. She has very good skin! No wonder she was chosen for the facial product demonstration. While trying to overcome my jittery nerves, Sharon snapped this photo of me. 😛 Yeah… Can’t help feeling nervous as the last time I was on stage was probably ten years ago in a school play. Sponsored Review What is the most important step in your beauty regimen? We all know that establishing a good skin care regimen is essential for achieving good and radiant skin. And I used to think that cleansing is the most important step in our beauty regimen as it clears away all the dirt collected and paves the way for the toner and moisturizer. It doesn’t help that my skin is mostly oily and so, I always feel a strong urge to wash my face. Well, I guess I was right until recent years when I hit my 20s. I noticed that my skin becomes dry and flaky really quickly in cold environments – air conditioned rooms and during winter. Not good. As you age, your skin becomes drier as it can no longer retain the moisture needed to make it smooth and silky. Collagen production slows down, the process of cell regeneration also slows down and elastin becomes less springy (the substance that enables skin to snap back into place). So cleansing becomes less important because too much washing can actually strip your skin of its natural oils and create dry and irritated skin. Of course, we should not remove cleansing entirely from our regimen as we’ll always have to get rid of the daily grime. However, I strongly recommend adding an additional step to perfect our beauty routine – use face masks. In ancient times, Egyptian and Greek women kept their skin fresh and young by using face masks. And you’ve heard how beautiful they were, so this probably works to a certain extent. I used my first face mask ten years ago and that changed the beauty aspect of my life irrevocably. I think my first mask was a peel-off mask from Christian Dior and it was exhilarating to see the mask remove the dead skin and dirt off the surface of my face. Beauty Tip… Use a facial mask at least once a week. It moisturizes your skin and eases skin disorders. It also acts as an effective stress reliever. It is not necessary to use one every day though. There are several types of facial masks out there, each type with a different function: mud masks or clay-based masks absorb oil and balance out the skin, hydrating masks moisturize dry skin and perfecting masks replenish tired and dull skin. These days, facial mask sheets are all the rage and they are starting to grow on me too. I love how they are so easy to apply and remove without causing a mess. And lucky me! I also don’t like ill- fitting mask sheets that cover my eyes, nostrils or lips. Not only are they uncomfortable, they also produce little or no results. Alright, those are some of my beauty pet peeves. So when I applied the mask on my face and… Holy moly! It fits my face snugly and the serum did not drip down my face. Double yay! The thin sheets felt rather comfortable on my face and they did not fall off even after they were partially dried up later. The sheets all have a light fragrance on them except the Kila Doll Rose Mask which of course has a stronger sweet smell. The masks were soothing and refreshing whilst on. I actually fell asleep on my couch while waiting for the 20 minutes to be up! However, after I remove the mask, my skin still felt tight and dry unlike other hydrating masks which leaves my skin smoother and plumper. So I guess its moisturizing properties only apply while the mask is on. Here’s another downer. After using the Hyaluronic Acid mask, my face suffered from a minor breakout. I guess it was too rich for my oily face. I was pretty annoyed by that. Overall, I thought the masks were effective stress relievers but not so great as moisturizers. After applying, I think my skin absorbed the product almost immediately as the stickiness vanished almost instantly. I performed a simple experiment. I applied UV Milk on one arm and a regular sunscreen on the other and this was what happened after 10 seconds. It is pretty evident that UV milk disappeared into my skin and the regular sunscreen was still sitting on my skin looking shiny and dewy. The regular sunscreen also left an unsightly white film on my arm, whereas UV milk seeped into my skin leaving no white cast nor residue. No sticky feeling afterwards too. Kudos to UV Milk! The UV milk is not entirely odorless. It leaves a distinctive ‘plasticine’ smell upon application but the smell disappears after a couple of minutes. Most sunscreens clog pores. Since I have acne-prone skin, my skin usually breaks out after I apply SPF lotions. The UV milk is light and non-greasy, so this time there was no pimple attack after using the product. I also like the fact that it’s 3-in-1 as it makes my beauty routine much simpler. I usually apply tons of beauty products before I apply my make up such as toner, moisturizer, sunscreen and make up primer. These days, its only toner and Hada Labo’s SHA Moisturizing UV Milk! Sun Protection Factor (SPF) SPF 50 is pretty high for a make up base. With its high SPF, skin is now less susceptible to burns even after long hours in the sun! Beauty Tip… No matter how high the SPF is, sunscreen needs to be reapplied every two hours, or more frequently especially after swimming or heavy perspiration. Who says beauty can’t inspire? It just did! Recently, a male friend in his late 40s (also a Honeyz reader) told me that my beauty posts especially the nail ones inspired him to take care of his physical well-being. Baffled, I asked ‘How?’ Here’s his explanation. “I’m a traditional guy who never thought appearance can be THAT important nor can it affect impressions. However, I realized that I’ve been paying special attention to my appearance these days like making sure my tie does not go past the belt and the cut of my shirt accentuates my figure! It’s crazy! The posts especially this one made me realized that there are so many things we can do to liven up the look of our nails and take care of them. A set of well trimmed and healthy-looking nails does not only make one look glamorous and professional, it is also a good hygiene practice to maintain them. Darn! Before I dive into the details, I thought I could revisit Amethystory’s Star product – Mineral Aqua Gel and give you Honeyz belles a fresh appraisal. Why another review of the mineral aqua gel? Because I was doubtful about its ability to remove dead skin cells the last time. Here’s my impression of the gel the last time. “Well, I’m slightly skeptical about the dead skin cells part claimed by Ginvera. I have a hunch that it’s just chemistry working its magic. I may probably try it on other surfaces like walls or mirrors soon. To give it some credit, I did see facial hairs attached to the white flakes. I like that I can also use it on other areas of my body too, besides the face. I like the texture of this exfoliator as compared to normal scrubs with beads. It feels gentler on the skin. Even though the process of rinsing off the liquid and flakes was quite a chore, but the after-scrub feeling was great. The skin felt really clean, and it did not leave the tight feeling. In addition, my skin felt really smooth and refreshed! All in all, I think this exfoliator transcends many others in the market with its quality and affordability. Experiencing euphoria that is induced by Just Lovace’s latest maxi dress! Believe me, they brought a whole new meaning to bohemian glam with this pretty number. Photos below for proof! The dress has a rich dose of summer glamour coupled with some boho edge. I like its layered tail hem, round neckline and figure flattering appeal. It is versatile enough to be worn to work (layer it with a silk scarf), gallivanting around the beach (wear with sandals and a straw hat) and to a formal dinner (pair it with strappy heels and a diamante dinner clutch). Material and workmanship is decent. Material is towards the thin side so seamless undergarments is recommended to avoid visible panty lines (vpl). The size runs slightly big. I think it may also be able to fit a UK 10 which makes the dress very comfortable to wear. All in all, I love the design especially the tail hem. It brought so much class to the dress!
