- Foundation Review: L’Oreal True Match Foundation
As the IT-girl of the 21st century, the Honeyz Belle constantly exudes confidence and display her innate capability to nail the perfect look for every occasion. Personally, I think having awe-inspiring skin is the first step to becoming this next IT-girl. I guess that doesn’t come as a huge surprise as you’ll notice that the people you first meet usually gaze at your face before they ‘scrutinize’ the rest of your body, i.e. Outfit, accessories, etc. and impressions are imprinted from there. However, perfecting the complexion has always been a very challenging terrain for most girls. So, the solution to instant perfect skin? The foundation. The term ‘foundation’ in makeup isn’t all vain talk. Webster defined ‘foundation’ as a basis upon which something stands or is supported. Well yes. In make up language, it literally forms the base of your entire make up. Your make up ‘falls apart’ when your ‘foundation’ is not up to mark. And this brings me to my second Honeyz Foundation Review. This time, I’m going to review the L’Oreal True Match Foundation. I’ve used many liquid foundations before and so far only this one kept me loyal. I have an olive toned complexion, hence the yellowish undertones of the G3, Golden Beige of this foundation blends into my skin pretty well and it does not create the bi-colour effect between the neck and the face. Also, I usually look pasty in photos. The foundation adds radiance to my face and makes me look much healthier in pictures. Just thought you might be interested… I wore the True Match foundation for the recent Honeyz Fashion Review Shoots and I like the natural and glowing look that it created! In this part of the world (referring to Southeast Asia), the foundation comes with a pump. I understand that the foundation comes in a bottle in many U.S. States. Anyway, back to the pump. I dread using foundations from bottles as it’s difficult to regulate the amount of liquid foundation that flows from the bottle and it creates an atrocious mess afterwards. The pump solves this problem. So thumbs up to that! Here’s another gaping fact about the foundation. It is extremely waterproofed. My good friend, Claudia, swears by this. Claudia and I We were in Bintan, Indonesia recently for a beach getaway. On one occasion, we decided to test the waterproof properties of our make up. Some of us were using Dior, Revlon and L’Oreal Two Way Cake and Claudia used the L’Oreal True Match Foundation for the experiment. So after 2 hours of soaking in a chlorinated pool, Claudia was the only one who still had her make up stubbornly on. The blusher on the apples of her cheeks were still highly visible! (Yup, they stayed on like super glue.) So there you go! True Match’s adhesive and water resistant properties proven! I also noticed shimmers in the foundation when it’s in the bottle, like tiny golden glitters. But when applied, they disappear. Less concentrated I guess. I slathered on some foundation for your reference. So no worries, it does not create the glittery effect on face. It’s still suitable for everyday use. The glitter is probably the True Match Foudation’s secret to its blendable properties. Coverage wise, it’s light to medium. I thought it fails on the coverage part. My blemishes and freckles are still pretty visible after application. It also has a rather short lifespan. It usually lasts 3 hours on my oily complexion. And then poof! It disappears and you have to re-apply again. In a way, I feel like Cinderella’ when I wear it as I have to remind myself to touch up the make up when the ‘optimal time frame’ is up. In addition, I experience mild breakouts from using this foundation at times. This is weird as it claims to be non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic. 🙁 I’m wearing the L’Oreal True Match Foundation in G3, Golden Beige in this picture. This picture was not enhanced in anyway. So this is how the foundation looks like under natural sunlight. It retails at Watsons at SGD 30.90. Overall, I would give this baby an 8 out of 10. Despite some of the negative factors pointed out, I can’t deny that this is an absolute godsend. No foundation feels more like second skin than this one. Moreover, this foundation had tide me over countless meetings, dates, photo shoots and dinner functions. 🙂 Ok. It’s time to serve the dessert of this post – Make up tips for liquid foundations! If you have an oily complexion, you may want to consider purchasing liquid foundations that are a shade lighter than your skin. This is because the foundation tends to turn a shade darker once it mixes with the skin’s natural oils. For the most natural look, try to match your foundation to your neck. You may perform a foundation test by first swiping on three different shades (a light, medium, and dark one for comparison) from the top of the jawline down to the neck. The one that disappears into the skin and matches the neck most closely is the one for you. Avoid foundations that have pinkish tones. They almost always look unnatural and masklike, calling attention to the fact that your neck and face are not the same shade. Instead, find a foundation with a yellowish undertone which will help to balance out any redness in the face. Use less foundation. Most people create an opaque veil of mismatched color when they slap on too much foundation. Use tinted moisturizers instead. Brighten up with some bronzer and blush if you think your foundation is too sheer to your liking. Alrighty. That’s all for this L’Oreal True Match Foundation review post. Continue to watch this space! <3 Love, Juliana Disclaimer: Do keep in mind that reviews are entirely subjective. It is normal to have differing views so please don’t hate me if I didn’t speak well of your favourite product. I definitely have no intentions of distorting the image of any brand. - Travel Review: Favorite Beach Getaway – Bali’s Ahimsa Beach Resort Jimbaran
Apa Kabar Honeyz Bunnies! Today, I’m gonna shed the ‘Beauty Junkie’ and ‘Aspiring Fashionista’ personas and put on my ‘Wanderluster’ hat. (Ignore the lack of parallelism.) Yes. A travel review FINALLY. In particular, my favourite beach destination. Before I dive into this review, I decided to do a mini survey with my good girlfriends on where their favorite beach destination is. Here are the responses. Favourite beach destination: The Maldives Favourite beach destination: Six Senses Ninh Van Bay Favourite beach destination: Perhentian Island Favourite beach destination: Island of Coron Gorgeous choices, ladies. Here comes my choice…. Bali’s Ahimsa Beach Resort Jimbaran! There’s not a scintilla of doubt that this fine resort is my most favourite beach getaway. It is highly recommended on Trip Advisor and is ranked number one among twenty-three others under the ‘Specialty lodging in Jimbaran’ category. If you’re wondering what’s the big deal? Well here’s the biggie… Lobby (In the evening) I was greeted by the simple and tiny lobby. (Well… The ‘big deal’ is not exactly here.) Ok. Honestly, when I first entered the lobby, I wasn’t too impressed. In fact, I started to worry about the state of the villa. Could it be crammy and dull like the lobby? Wait for it… Wait for it….. (anxious tone) There you go! Boy was I wrong about the villa! It was huge and spacious coupled with a nice aromatherapy scent. Well, I guess the lobby was probably built small on purpose to give way to the huge villas. Villa (In the evening) Love the plunge pool! I just have to do this. A cute kitchen. Entertainment systems in the living room. DVDs may be rented free-of-charge at the concierge. There’s a garden in the bathroom! Isn’t it beautiful? Gotta snap a picture! Villa (In the day) I woke up the next morning to this. Breakfast was already prepared by the Ahimsa’s staff! Totally famished. Gobbled my delicious breakfast like a hungry monster. Villa in the day. Awww.. love the tranquility. Camwhoring in this beautiful villa. 😛 Ok. Lotsa camwhoring. I can’t help it! It’s not everyday that I get to lodge in such a beautiful place. Walkway to the lobby One last camwhoring picture? Outside the resort Heading out! Explored the hotel beside the Ahimsa Beach. Interesting monument Headed to the beach. Enhanced the colour slightly and it turned into this. Whoa… I came back later in the evening to this. It was a little surprise from the resort (as part of its honeymoon package). Can I bring this home? BBQ Lunch in the resort! I love my life! And a “live band” to go with the wonderful lunch. How good can this get?? A clarification. The ‘live band’ was not part of the package. I think it was 40USD per hour. The rates are available at the concierge and it’s based on availability of the musicians. I went to the shopping and entertainment spots nearby and it wasn’t that fantastic. I would suggest going all the way out of the Jimbaran area for entertainment (e.g. Rock Bar) or just stay in the hotel (It’s good enough. :P) For further information on the resort and its rates, you may consult their website at www.theahimsa.com . Here’s a little hint to my next travel review. As if it’s not obvious enough! Till next time! Love, Juliana #travel #resorts #ahimsabeach #beautifulvillas #bali #travelreview

- Fashion Review: Le Dezire
Honeyz….. I’m home! I’m gonna try something different in this post. No beauty reviews this time. Instead, I’m going to do a fashion review of online store, Le Dezire ‘s best sellers. Eunice, founder of Le Dezire, was kind enough to give me some of her signature pieces for this fashion review. You can’t believe how grateful I am as she only have limited pieces left for each of them. 😀 Anyway, instead of doing the conventional way, i.e. Pose in front of a mirror and take pictures, then write my afterthoughts (which was my initial idea), I decided to do a fashion spread kind of review with the help of some friends. 🙂 I’ve been a huge fan of fashiontoast.com and lookbook.nu for the longest time. The beautiful and artsy fashion spreads never failed to awe me (In a good way). So for this fashion review, I decided to try a ‘fashiontoast’ inspired photo spread. Here are the pieces Le Dezire gave me. Very pretty outfits eh? Now that you’ve seen the Supermodel look. Here’s the Mortal version. Enjoy! Noticed my sky blue nails in the photos? (Well, I hope you did!) Got them done at Nail Indulgence De Beau, No. 1 Liang Seah Street, #02-14. I enjoyed the warmth of their service. Very friendly and accommodating. You can contact them at +65 6333 1687 to arrange an appointment. 🙂 Photo Credits Photographers Samuel – The Seasoned Photographer Yong Thye – The Passionate Photographer Alex – The Noob-turned-Pro Photographer Models Pretty Judy She’s a UK 4, standing at 155cm. Lovable JW She’s a UK 6, standing at 153cm. That’s me. I’m a UK 6, standing at 161cm. I hope you liked the fashion spread. 🙂 Well, I thought it would be interesting to also show what went on ‘Behind the Scenes’. 😛 So here you go. Super Star Judy! Look at all those paparazzi! “Is my photo ok??” “I want to look that sexy too!” In the dressing room – All made up and ready for the photo shoot! On your mark… Get set…. Go!! ‘Photo-whoring’ while waiting…. More ‘photo whoring’… And MORE photo whoring!! Ok I think that’s enough. Soaking in the sun. Ok that’s a wrap! Greatly appreciated… Lastly, I want to thank SimVideo for their excellent photography and photo effects services. A renowned wedding and corporate photographer in Singapore and JB. And Le Dezire for their beautiful clothes. Thank you all for reading. See you and God bless! Love, Juliana #fashion #review #Photography #ledezire #fashionreview #photoshoot
- Mascara Review: The Face Shop, Majolica Majorca and Sephora
In this 21st century, every woman seeks to strip away the cliches surrounding them. They’re vigorous and confident. And this is the spirit of ‘Honeyz‘. ‘Belle’ is a woman who’s admired for her beauty and charm. So a Honeyz Belle is a confident and intelligent woman of the 21st century who’s not afraid to express her desires, show off her charm and become the belle of every ball. I believe all of you is a Honeyz Belle so henceforth, I’m going to call you ladies ‘Honeyz Belles’! So Hello Honeyz Belles! As my blog title suggests, I’m gonna review THE imperative tool to pretty peepers – Mascaras. Check out their faux lashes! Mascaras are an important part of make up as they define our eyes and gives them that ‘little burst of energy’ to our otherwise dull-looking eyes. And whenever the topic of mascaras is brought up, I hear Loreal, Lancome and Maybelline being mentioned almost 90% of the time. So for this mascara review post, I’m gonna leave them out of the picture since we all know that they are good enough. 🙂 And review the underdogs instead – The Face Shop, Majolica Majorca and Sephora. The Face Shop’s Extreme Volume Mascara I started using this last year and have been loyal to it ever since. I love its non-clumping and lengthening qualities. It separates the lashes well and thus does not produce the ‘lump-of-lashes’ look. Best of all, this mascara is smudge-proof! 😀 Panda eyes from smudged mascara is definitely not a pretty sight (especially if you’re on a hot date) so this is an absolute hot favourite for me. The slight curvature of the mascara wand is also perfect for my oval shaped eyes. The Face Shop’s Extreme Volume Mascara Wand The mascara creates a soft and natural look that is great for daily activities such as work and school. Here’s how it looks like on my naked eye. Wearing The Face Shop’s Extreme Volume Mascara on make-up free eyes I like that it darkens and lifts my lashes slightly to produce this very natural look. Well, here comes the trubs. It is relatively difficult to achieve the really dramatic look even after a few more coats of this mascara. Here’s the example, After numerous coats of Faceshop’s Extreme Volume Mascara Not very impressive, isn’t it? So if you want to achieve those ‘Drama Goddess’ look with your eyes, I suggest you opt for falsies or simply purchase the Big Three’s mascaras and pound on the eyeshadows. * Big Three = Loreal, Lancome, Maybelline All in all, I like the great qualities of this mascara and its affordable price. (Johor Bahru’s Faceshop retails this at RM 45 which translates to SGD 18.) Majolica Majorca’s Lash Expander Frame Plus Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus ‘Majolica Majorca’ is quite a mouthful. I’m going to call it ‘MJ’ in this post as it’s famously known for. (No, not Michael Jackson’s acronym) MJ is a sub-brand of Shisedo and it’s much more affordable than it’s parent brand’s products. This is terrific news for most of us who can’t afford Shisedo’s luxe make up all the time. 😀 Ok here comes my review. I bought this product due to friends’ recommendations and its cute packaging. (I’m a typical girl, aesthetic qualities are extremely important to me.) I must say it’s pretty easy to apply and lengthens my lashes quite a bit with its fibers. The fibers were attached to the end of my lashes upon application and created this ‘longer lashes’ illusion. It has this gooey texture that does not dry up too soon unlike other mascaras. This allowed ease of re-application, which in turn reduced the clumping effect that re-applications usually caused. In particular, I love the design of the wand. Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus Wand As you can see, it has this mini comb on it that enables me to target even the tiniest lash. Great for application on the lower lashes too! Well, everything about this mascara is great but here comes the nightmare… The removal of the mascara. Removing this mascara was a huge hassle. It’s stubborn as hell! The fibers stick to your lashes like super glue and they wouldn’t budge even after much (gentle) rubbing with my make-up remover. Many times, I could still spot clumps of the remaining fibers on my lashes the next morning. I guess the excessive lengthening fibers isn’t such a great idea after all. Sephora Mascara Sephora Mascara This mascara darkens, separates and thickens my lashes pretty well. It has slight lengthening properties too. One plus point – its pretty easy to remove even with non-eye make up removers. Here’s a picture of the wand. Sephora Mascara Wand I did not like the wand though. It’s big and coarse and it irritated my eyelids a few times during application. I underestimated its frame. As such, I don’t think it’s suitable for Asian eyes. Another bummer of this mascara? Photo Credits to hollywoodtoday.net The panda eye look! I noticed bad smudging after hours of wearing the mascara. Very unkempt. In conclusion… I think the diamond in the rough is definitely The Face Shop’s Extreme Volume Mascara. I’m a no fuss person so I’m no huge fan of exasperating make up removing procedures. In addition, I don’t think any one wants to meet a big client or go on a hot date worrying about the state of her make up constantly. Removal and longevity of make up is extremely important to me. Once again, I’m going to end this post with some useful mascara tips for you beautiful ladies. Never try a mascara at a makeup store as there’s a risk of infection. To brighten the whites of your eyes, try using blue mascara. To prevent clumps, remove excess mascara from wand before application. To prevent smearing of mascara, dust a layer of loose powder under and over the eyes. Alrighty. That’s all for this mascara review. Thanks for reading. 🙂 I’m already preparing for my next post – A fashion review. I’ll be back sooner than you can say ‘Honeyz’! So watch out for it! Love, Juliana Disclaimer: Do keep in mind that reviews are entirely subjective. It is normal to have differing views. So please don’t hate me if I didn’t speak well of your favourite product. I definitely have no intentions of distorting the image of any brand. Well, to each his own, isn’t it?
