- I gave a speech at Noël Caleb’s first Fashion Workshop of the year!
Two beautiful weeks ago, local fashion label, Noel Caleb orchestrated a fashion workshop for young and accomplished fashion bloggers and designers and the most exciting part was… I was given the lovely opportunity to speak at this event! Whoopee! Click for all the photos and scoop. The workshop was held at The Co , a brand new office space that will be launching on 1 Mar 2013. Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ Founder of Noel Caleb, Eileen commenced the styling workshop with an introduction of the brand and the objectives of the workshop. Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ To break the ice, Eileen invited every guest to introduce themselves and share their blogging journeys. Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ My friend and fellow blogger Grace also attended the event. She surprised us by introducing her new role as a writer and her upcoming book on blogging tips. It will be released this summer so all you bloggers and aspiring bloggers, look out for it! 😀 Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ It was entertaining and inspiring to hear the different stories and blogging anecdotes of the participants that included writers, young professionals, mothers and even students (the youngest was 14 years old!). There was so much to learn from their experiences and I thought it was amazing that how one common passion – social sharing, has converged all of us who come from different walks of life into one huge and united social network. Finally, I was invited to give a speech about my journey as a social media entrepreneur and share tips on becoming a full-time blogger in Singapore. Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ Besides my blog, I also introduced my freshly launched beauty portal, Honeyz Cube which was a spin-off of my blog. The audience chuckled when I shared photos of my family members who participated in the blog reviews and photo shoots. Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ It was the first time I give a speech in my capacity as an entrepreneur and blogger so it was kinda nerve-wrecking for me. But I was glad everyone enjoyed it. 🙂 Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ The event culminated with a group styling session with Eileen. I left the event early for another appointment so I wasn’t able to participate in this session. Here are the photos! Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ Picture credits: http://christopheroon.daportfolio.com/ For a full coverage of the event, click here . Of course, this will not be the only fashion workshop this year. Noel Caleb has already prepared an exciting line up of fashion and beauty workshops that will be taking place soon. For all the juicy deets about Noel Caleb’s collections, workshops and services, visit their Facebook Page and website at www.noelcaleb.com The event was a resounding success! Congratulations and thank you Megha, Eileen and the Noel Caleb team for the invitation! Also, thanks Christopher for the gorgeous photos! If you would like to engage Christopher’s services for your corporate or wedding photoshoots, you can contact him at christopheroon.daportfolio.com or email christopher.oon@gmail.com . You WILL make it. 🙂 Your friend, Juliana #fashion #HoneyzCube #lifestyle #NoelCaleb
- Beauty Review: Coast to Coast Outback Skin Illuminating Cleansing Water
Sponsored Review Hey ladies, I’ve a question for you. Do you know of any beauty brand that produces products that are gentle, efficient, effective and most importantly contains all-natural ingredients? Well, I do. I know of a brand that not only goes au naturel with its ingredients, it also seeks to make our lives easier with its incredible no-rinse formula. 🙂 This Spring, hit the beauty road with Coast to Coast no-rinse formula range’s Outback Skin Illuminating Cleansing Water! Coast to Coast uses all-natural ingredients which are native to Australia and gentle enough for the delicate skin. Key Ingredients in Cleansing Water: Quandong and Sweet Orange This brightening cleansing water contains Sweet Orange which is used not only for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties but also for its calming effect on the skin and mind. And Quandong? The name itself already smells of uniqueness. It is high in proteins, Vitamin C and essential fatty acids to rejuvenate and soothe the skin. This fabulous product gently removes makeup and impurities from the face and eyes while purifying skin cells in preparation for your day or night skincare regime. A no-rinse formula allows travelers to take good care of their skin while on the go. Perfect travel companion indeed! Here’s what I thought about the product… I’m a lazy beauty enthusiast so I’m constantly looking for short cuts to ‘Beautydom’. Don’t we all agree that the most toilsome part of our beauty regimen is removing our makeup at the end of an exhausting day? So the no-rinse formula claim certainly made me sit up and take notice. This product promises to dissolve makeup and impurities from the face and eyes. Unfortunately I’ll have to add that it does that only to a certain extent. It removed my foundation, lip gloss and blusher effectively but left the mascara and eyeliner on – even after much rubbing. Here’s a close up of the eyes. Removed makeup on the left side. There were still traces of mascara and eyeliner on the eye on the left. To solve this problem, I recommend that you use a regular oil cleanser or makeup remover to take off the makeup on your eyes and remove the excess makeup with the Coast to Coast Cleansing Water for a clean finish. The formula is rather light – the consistency is similar to that of water so it left a non-sticky and comfortable feeling on my sensitive skin. I also loved its refreshing citrus scent that was oozing with nature’s goodness. The nozzle of the Cleansing Water is rather different from the regular ones in that the liquid is dispensed in an upward motion. I like this as it prevents spillage and wastage. I thought the no-rinse formula and fuss-free application made this the perfect product to bring on long haul flights… BUT! The container is 160ml so I guess it is not aviation-friendly after all. Coast to Coast, if you’re reading this, please please PLEASE consider producing your products in travel sizes! I’m sure it’ll be a hit with beauty and travel junkies like us! Finally… There are several hits and misses but on balance, it is still a pretty amazing organic beauty product. I’m certain that nature-lovers will adore this product. 3 Honeyz crowns! The Coast to Coast Outback Skin Illuminating Cleansing Water retails at SGD36 and can be purchased at the Coast to Coast boutique store at 1 HarbourFront Walk, #01-08 VivoCity, Singapore 098585. - DIY: How to Create Dip-Dye Hair at Home?
Avoid CNY salon surcharges with DIY chic rainbow sections through your locks! Step 1: Prepare these items. Hair dye, rubberbands, disposable gloves, comb and polybags. The hair dye I use in this tutorial. Tish and Snooky’s Manic Panic in Ultra Violet and Hot Hot Pink Colors appear more vibrant on light hair so my friend Alice (and model of today’s tutorial) has bleached her Rapunzel locks before this shoot. FYI… Our model, Alice is a hair fashionista and already has a nice gradation of green applied to the lower lengths of her hair. But like they always say ‘too much is never enough’, so Alice has kindly agreed to showcase her hair dye journey and demonstrate how she achieves the graduated hair dye effect with three colors. Here we go! Step 2: Tie your hair in half. Then twist the upper half into a bun. Step 3: Now smooth out your lower half with a comb and begin your hair color application. Remember to wear your gloves! Step 4: Spread the dye evenly by brushing your hair with a comb. Step 4: Divide your hair into three sections (or four if you have thicker hair) and twist each section into a mini bun as shown. Step 5: Now wrap your mini buns with the polybags and secure them with rubber bands. Once you’re done, repeat these steps with the upper half of your hair with a different hair dye color. Step 6: Now wait for an hour for the dye to penetrate into your hair before rinsing it off completely. Step 7: After rinsing, brush your hair with your hands. Do not use a comb because hair is weakest when it’s wet and combing might result in breakage. Then dry your hair and you’re done! Thanks Alice for the demonstration! Now let’s all add some fun flare to our mundane manes! P.S. - Beauty Review: Glitz Hairworkz’s Scalp Detox Treatment
Sponsored Review Are hair loss, balding and dandruff problems bugging you? We all know these could be caused by an unhealthy scalp but the real problem is – do you know how to fix the damaged scalp? Well, hair care veteran Glitz Hairworkz might have the solution to your infuriating scalp issues. Introducing Scalp Detox Treatment that promises to help you regain your crown and confidence this CNY. Click for all the ‘hairy’ details! Our scalp affects the way our hair looks and long-term use of hairstyling products can lead to clogged follicles that can cause severe hair loss problems. Besides reducing chemical treatments, using good shampoo and employing proper hair washing techniques, regular detoxification treatments are also essential to maintain the good condition of our hair. So a few weeks ago, I visited Glitz Hairworkz at TripleOne Somerset to try their signature Scalp Detox Treatment, hoping to cleanse my follicles and wake my sleeping hair up. :p On the day of the treatment, I arrived 20 minutes late for my appointment (shame on me) but I was still greeted with friendly smiles at Glitz Hairworkz. And I was also immediately served a nice pot of tea and some magazines to help me relax and zone out for my treatment. Talk about good service! This was my hair condition before the treatment… According to Kelvin (Style Director of Glitz Hairworkz), my scalp is healthy and normal (phew!) so I do not have to do this treatment too often. He recommends clients who are plagued by an oily scalp, dandruff and stress to do the treatment once a month or twice a month (if the problem is more severe). Results should be evident after 6 to 12 sessions. My treatment began with the application of Detoplus 1 hair serum from Revivre Exence Aromatherapy. The product contains natural essential oils and Vitamin E. Kelvin ensures that the products he uses for the treatment are chemical-free and organic to maintain the good effects of the treatment. He also emphasized that his products are made up of smaller molecules (as compared to other detox products) so the goodness of the products can penetrate more easily into the scalp. This will lead to quicker and more visible results. After 10 minutes, Sally (my hair stylist of the day) gently massaged the Revivre Exence Aromatherapy Shampoo Enfant Detox to deeply purify and nourish the scalp. The shampoo has a light and delicate herb scent that produces a soothing and relaxing sensation on my scalp. Luurrrve it! To make sure my scalp absorbs the nutrients of the shampoo, it was left on my scalp for an additional 10 minutes before rinsing. I’m a bunhead too! Haha! The rinsing process was an enormous pleasure with the combination of Sally’s therapeutic head massage and the relaxing scent of the shampoo. Sally massaged my head for a good ten minutes with the Revivre Exence Aromatherapy Sinergia Detox hair conditioner to get rid of hair build-up and residue. Psst! I was actually suffering from a slight migraine before the treatment began and at this point of the treatment, I could feel the pain subsiding already. 😀 After rinsing, Sally squirted some Revivre Exence Aromatherapy Balm PH3 Relax on my scalp to smoothen my hair and calm the scalp. The product also prevents and calms down an itchy scalp. The nozzle of Balm PH3 Relax. Sally applying Balm PH3 Relax on my scalp. Thereafter, with a wave of her curling wand, Sally turned my hair into this… Haha! It’s no surprise that I love my new tousled waves! Sally is a hairstyling genius! I’m pretty sure I’ll be back for more treatments. The 2-hour Glitz Hairworkz Scalp Detox Treatment is priced at SGD98 per session. Long-term treatment packages are available too. For more information, visit their website at www.glitzhairworkz.com or like the Glitz Hairworkz FB page for the latest promotions and updates on their services. - You Had Me At “Szechuan Food”
Sponsored Review The Snake Year is hissing around the corner and in this time of merriment and reunion, scrumptious Chinese feasts inevitably come to mind. If you’re looking to try something different this year – perhaps inject some spice and flavor into your reunion dinners, I may have a pretty good suggestion. Well, I know of a place that offers authentic and fiery Chinese food in the heart of bustling Chinatown. To find out more, click on link! 😀 Last month, I was invited to authentic Szechuan restaurant Tong Fu Ju Grilled Fish 同福聚烤鱼(四川菜) at 21 Smith Street, Singapore 058935 for a traditional Szechuan lunch. I was very excited because my lunches usually consist of boring sandwiches, pies and frozen food so a sumptuous oriental lunch definitely sounds like a worthy ‘trade-off’. Haha! I arrived at the restaurant and was immediately greeted by this… Bright red lanterns and tables, fancy Chinese curtains and green walls embellished with beautiful Chinese paintings. How oriental can they get?! For a second, I thought I was in China. I thought the decor exuded a festive mood which made me look forward to CNY even more than before. I know I look calm and composed here but I’m actually having an excitement attack inside. Can’t wait to tickle (or rather numb) my taste buds with the delectable Szechuan cuisine that’s coming right up! Thin Pork Slices in Sichuan Garlic Sauce 蒜泥白肉 – SGD8.80 This is undisputedly the best dish of the afternoon. The succulent flesh and spicy garlic sauce was a true match made in food heaven. I know it’s not a good calorie bargain with its fatty pork belly and greasy gravy, but trust me, it’s worth all the extra pounds. Just imagine soft and luxurious meat melting on your tongue… ‘Nuff said. 5 Honeyz crowns! Pan Fried Beef Slice Hong Kong Style 姜葱牛肉 – SGD18 I’m a huge fan of beef but this dish did not impress me that much. The beef slices were tough and dry, and the sauce was mild and light. It didn’t help that it was served after the soft and tender pork meat either. So I did not appreciate it as much as the pork. 🙁 So 2 Honeyz crowns. House Special Charcoal Grilled Live Fish 招牌烤鱼 – SGD28 (Regular) SGD32 (Large) The name of the restaurant is Tong Fu Ju Grilled Fish so I guess it’s no surprise that this baby here was the star of our lunch. The fish was at least three times bigger than my palm and was presented on a food warmer with charcoal underneath. Besides being visually stunning, this fish was also grilled to perfection! The skin was crunchy and the flesh was soft, juicy and tender. The spiciness is also less prominent here because we have requested for 中辣 which literally means ‘medium spicy’. There are three levels of spiciness so if you prefer piquant food, do feel free to ask for an upgrade of the spice level. Despite the lack of spice, the fish was still power packed with flavor. This is because the bean sprouts, vegetables and onions surrounding the fish were not just decorative flourish, they were part of the flavor package too. The folks at Tong Fu Ju Grilled Fish highly recommended that we have these delicious companions after the fish for a more balanced taste. Fellow blogger Tiffany showing off the large bean sprouts. The fish we had was Sea Bass. Besides this fish, they have three other types of fish for you to choose from, namely Patin, Besouga and Grouper. Patin has the softest meat and Grouper has the firmest. As you’ve guessed it, the most popular choice in the restaurant is the Patin. The price is the same for all types of fish. For its soft texture and flavorful ingredients, 4.5 Honeyz crowns! Sauteed Chicken with Chili and Pepper, Chong Qing Style 重庆辣子鸡 – SGD18 The chicken meat was soft, tasty and shockingly spicy. Each piece of chicken was coated with the strong aroma of garlic and Sichuan pepper. It was a pity that I could not endure the spice, otherwise I could have gobbled it all up. Also, beware of tiny bones that lurk within. 3.5 Honeyz crowns Numb and Spicy Bullfrog 馋嘴牛蛙 – SGD26 Fleshy and moist frog meat soaking in fiery red chili oil – I’m a frog fanatic so I’m already drooling at this sight. Haha! The frog was so fleshy! The frog meat was soft and tasty and the sauce was fragrant and hot. Although the dish was a little too spicy for my liking, I still thought it was a harmonious mix of taste and texture. 4 Honeyz crowns! Griddle-Cooked Tea Tree Mushroom 千品茶树菇 – SGD13.80 If the bullfrog dish was too spicy or exotic for you, this mushroom dish might tickle your fancy. Wholesome mushrooms paired with guiltless vegetables and lotus roots – it’s the ideal dish for non-spicy lovers. Even though the dish looks a tad boring, it was surprisingly flavorful. 4 Honeyz crowns. Pan-fried Corn Cake 玉米烙 – SGD8.80 After all the tongue-numbing food, we were finally able to calm our taste buds with this crispy corn dessert. It is probably one of the best Chinese desserts I’ve ever had. I’ve never had fried corn (it is mostly boiled) so I was relatively amazed at the tenderness and juiciness of this fried sweet corn. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. 4.5 Honeyz crowns! Afterthoughts… The dishes we had were recommended by the folks at Tong Fu Ju Grilled Fish. Even though the dishes were mostly hot and bold in taste, I thought the flavour balance of the dishes was generally good and the portions were fairly generous too. The service is definitely a noteworthy factor. Throughout our lunch, the staff periodically asked if we were okay with the spiciness of the food or if we needed to top up our glasses. Sour plum drink In fact, I think the quality of the food and service ranks up with some of the best Sichuan restaurants I’ve been to. So 4 Honeyz crowns for the service and overall experience! If you’re looking to throw an oriental dinner party this Chinese New Year without messing up your kitchen, consider Tong Fu Ju Grilled Fish! For more info on reservations and menu, please visit their website at www.tongfujugrilledfish.com or call them at +65 6224 7071. Thanks Tong Fu Ju Grilled Fish for the esteemed invite! - Honeyz Cube – The Ultimate Beauty Encyclopedia for Women
After months of intense preparation, I can finally reveal my secret project! Click to unveil the beauty mystery… All of you know by now that I have the most confusing skin in the world – combination dry so finding the right products has always been like climbing Mount Everest for me. I’ve found many women portals and forums through Google and even though most of them hold a wealth of beauty information but none satisfies my beauty skincare objectives. This is because they mostly cover the most common skin types (i.e. oily, dry, normal) and the most basic beauty products (i.e cleanser, toner, moisturizer). The forums were also not beauty-centric enough in that they center around other topics such as relationships and celebrity gossip too. I needed information of as many beauty products as possible – that includes organic products, eyelash glues, body sculpting products and reviews from everyone if that’s feasible too. Perhaps the answer is – a beauty wiki? So instead of persistently searching for the focused beauty portal, I decided to create my own. And so Honeyz Cube was born – yesterday. 🙂 Honeyz Cube contains a large and daily growing database of beauty and health products and also provides an avenue for like-minded beauty lovers to convene and network via the discussion boards and review spaces. On top of these, I’ll also be giving away my beauty products and samples in the Rewards Catalogue because good things are better shared, right? Of course, I can’t give them to everyone who visits my site – I don’t own Watsons! So I decided to reward the peeps who vote, review and refer. 😀 There are now about 200 products in my database. I hoping to enter more as I go along. Yup, I painstakingly entered all the product info on the website so if you spot any discrepancy, please pardon my sin and let me know by emailing me at info@honeyzcube.com. Or if you think there are any beauty products that deserve a place in the encyclopedia or a spot on the beauty pedestal (Cast Your Vote), please feel very free to email me too. I’ll try my best to update this beauty pedestal everyday. Comparisons will be there for at least two days so expect new vote results everyday. 😀 Alrighty belles, thanks for reading this and now please head to my site —-> www.honeyzcube.com Eh, why are you still here??? Well, since you’re still on this page, thought you might be interested to take a behind-the-scene look at the process of developing this website. Enjoy! Now, let’s race to Honeyz Cube and start voting and reviewing your favorite products! Your friend, Juliana #beauty #HoneyzCube
