Instagram Photography is officially my new favorite hobby! I’ve been trying to hone my skills as a product photographer for my beauty encyclopedia HoneyzCube.com , but what seemed like pure work initially turned out to be a helluva lot of fun! Taking photos everyday actually gave me a different perspective about my surroundings and help me stay in tune with my camera. Not only do I understand my camera’s functions better now, the things that once looked mundane also appear more interesting. Be it furniture, lighting, little trinkets… They all look like they could jazz up any photo! Inspiration is everywhere! My bro always has a ‘hair-raising’ problem. Haha! His hair never goes down. It always grows straight out then tails off with some kind of wave. Sassy! What say you? And now it’s my turn to experience the Shunji Matsuo magic. Eeek! The dark roots have come out to play! William suggested a quick touch up of the roots as well as more peekaboo highlights to accentuate the base color. Ammonia and hair cuticles certainly will never be BFFs. Why? Because to dye the hair, ammonia has to open the hair shaft pores to allow the color to penetrate and bond with the hair. Not surprisingly, this is a very mane-mangling process so William suggested a full hair treatment to reverse its harmful effects. Here’s Alvina, my colourist and treatment therapist for the day. 🙂 Shunji Matsuo is a huge supporter of Shiseido’s hair care range which is known for its ability to restore the hair’s original lustre and prevent further damage. Alvina washed the dye away before spreading some scalp care gel on my head. Whoopee! And my crowning glory gets some serious massage. This is not only relaxing but also stimulates hair growth. And then she washes the treatment products away with Aveda’s Rosemary Mint shampoo which was absolutely invigorating for the scalp and mind. 😛 Next, she applied more treatment products to my hair and steamed it for a few minutes. My treatment culminated with another relaxing shoulder and head massage. Woo hoo! The ultra soft and moist texture of my hair shocked me. As mentioned, hair colouring always challenges the health of your hair so it is important to make sure you include a hair treatment that’s infused with a luxurious blend of moisture-rich ingredients. Abracadabra! It was really easy for William to style it too. My hair is now soft, shiny and in control. Since my hair was repeatedly bleached, it wasn’t long before the hair ends started to show signs of detriment. One treatment is not enough! This was taken a month and a half later. I need another treatment! Since I was also prepping for my third wedding shoot, William decided to give my hair a total color transformation to liven it up. I suffered from major flaking problems after my last dye job so William applied this Sherpa CMC Carrier Oil to moisturise the hair and scalp before the colouring job. It is pretty amazing because this time, flaking was minimal and my hair stayed silky and healthy for a long time. And this time, we opted for a darker color. 🙂 As usual, the cleansing process involves major repair and treatment work. And tadah! Ash brown-green hair! Do you like it? If you look at it closely, you’ll notice subtle green streaks amongst its rich brown base. Thank you Spicy and William for creating this for me! And now it’s time to celebrate with some delectable spanish cuisine! Haha! Yup, we actually toasted to the happy occasion with some good food and wine at the Serenity Spanish Bar and Restaurant (located on the same level as the salon). 😛 My ‘chaperone’ of the day! More photos of my renewed smooth tresses. My looks for my ‘Lady and the Tramp’ and ‘Aladdin’ themed wedding shoots in late August. Fast forward to this week… Hair still looks as good as new. Apparently he tried one of Japan’s steepest rollercoasters! Haha! That’s crazy but I would love to try it one day too. They say ‘loose lips sink ships’, I say ‘chapped lips sink everything’! Unlike our skin, our lips do not have oil and sweat glands to keep them moist and to add fuel to the fire, they are also thinner than the skin on our face, hence, our lips are more vulnerable to chapping and sun damage. So it is important to care and protect our lips to keep our pout in the best condition! Trust me, applying skin-saving concoctions and gulping down glasses of water is not enough. To maintain your smooth luscious lips, you’ll need to put in more effort. I’ve come up with a list of lip hacks to help you pay more than just lip service to your dry lip woes. 😛 Now let’s step up our lip game with these easy measures! Guess what I’m going to do with this tub of sugar. 😛 If you’ve guessed ‘exfoliate’… Well, spot on my friend! 1) Exfoliate! Like our skin, exfoliating the lips can remove the dry, dead skin covering the soft lips underneath. Regular scrubs can keep your lips smooth, fresh and plump. Create a sugar-based scrub by mixing sugar and olive oil, then gently massage your lips with the scrub. This will also help to increase the circulation of blood to your lips and make them look smooth and red. 2) Hydrate! Hydrate lips by applying a lip balm. Well, not just any lip balm. As mentioned earlier, the skin on our lips are thinner so the sun can easily rob our lips of any spare moisture and eventually lead to photo-aging. So remember to hydrate them with a lip balm that provides sun protection. LJH’s Cellabel Lip Treatment SPF15 is my go-to sun protector for my lips. It contains natural ingredients and Vitamin E to keep my lips moisturised for hours after application while protecting it from awful sun rays or other environmental triggers like dry air and and cold winds. Now that our lips are no longer dry and flaky, it’s time to dress them up! We love our lipsticks but how do we make sure they stay put for hours? 3) The Loose Powder Trick First, layer your lips with lipstick. Then hold one ply of tissue against your lips and dust them with some loose powder. Finish off with another layer of lipstick. Repeat this at least 3 times and your lipstick will last a lifetime. 😛 URGH! Lip stains! This is another common problem that lipstick wearers dread. So keep lip stains off teeth with… 4) The rolled tissue trick Roll a tissue and put it in your mouth to create an O shape on your lips. Make sure there are no spaces between the tissue and your mouth. Thereafter, slide the tissue out of your mouth. This will remove lipstick on your inner lips that may potentially bleed and stain your teeth. Prolonged exposure to sun rays and constant use of straws can result in unsightly wrinkles. Even though it is impossible to get rid of them in a jiffy, we can certainly still hide them with makeup. 5) Use clear lip gloss! Create the illusion of lush and plump lips with the help of colourless lip gloss. They mask wrinkles effectively without bringing the attention away from the lip color. My favorite is this white pearl gloss from Esyoro . It provides a beautiful shine while yummifying my lips with its sweet aroma. Lastly, keep lips moist and supple with lip-friendly foods like fruits and vegetables. Avoid spicy and salty food that may inflame and damage our lips. Also, our thin lip skin do not handle the hot sensation from hot drinks and soups well so make sure your fluids are not piping hot when you consume them. The rule of thumb is to treat your lips like you would your face and you should have kiss-ready lips in no time. Now pucker up! Eh wait… My lip woes are not over. I woke up today all excited to pen a new ‘Beauty Hack’ post but that excitement was taken away by the devastating news of comic legend, Joan Rivers’ passing. Even though we knew that she’s been on life support for days, I was still hopeful that she’ll recover from this medical ordeal. I know I’ll miss those lunches where Joan entertains me with her snarky remarks about Lady Gaga’s fashion and the funny yet ingenious comments on Fashion Police’s ‘Bitch Stole My Look!’ segment. And who can forget her trademark red carpet question ‘Who are you wearing?’ The question that propelled her career to new heights, establishing her as the ultimate Fashion Icon AND Fashion Police. But today, we do not mourn. Instead, let’s celebrate the comic legacy and good memories that Joan has left behind. Hi belles! I’m Petite Amie and today, I’m going to forget about my couture gown, perfectly preened fur and… gulp, fear of water. Yup. Like most bunnies, water gets me all the time. I literally hop away for dear life whenever I see running water. But I’m going to disregard my aquaphobia and focus on a bigger issue – raising awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Motor Neurone Disease. ALS is the same disease that has plagued Professor Stephen Hawking for more than 50 years. The disease affects the brain and the spinal cord causing motor neurones to degenerate and die, leading to gradual paralysis and eventually death. As of today, there is no known cure. The funds raised by the ALS Association (US), Motor Neurone Association (UK) and other charities will go towards vital research. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has contributed millions to the cause and today I’m going to do my part by dousing myself in some freezing cold water too. Click to watch now! Brrr! Read on to find how the folks at The Glamourous Factory plumped up my crepey neck skin in an hour! A few weeks ago, I visited The Glamourous Factory (TGF)’s branch at The Clift to try their wholesome gamut of beauty services. As mentioned in my introduction, the skin on the neck is most susceptible to aging so it is imperative that you exfoliate and moisturise it regularly. However, the skin around that area also tends to be more sensitive so proceed with caution. For me, I prefer to leave it to the experts so I decided to try TGF’s Guinot Hydradermie Lift Neck Treatment to stimulate the neck muscles and tone the skin. The skin around my neck is plagued by ugly creases and wrinkles due to a bad neck care regime and excessive sun exposure when I was younger. Here’s a close up. It’s in a pretty bad shape eh? TGF to the rescue! Fong Siew, an experienced facial therapist of TGF commenced the treatment with a gentle cleansing routine to prep the skin for more nourishing products to follow later. Next, she massaged the Guinot firming gel on my skin with her hands. Guinot Firming Gel Neck Bust Decollete Then proceeded to flush out the toxins and firm the muscles by massaging the same gel on my skin with this special apparatus. It was a rather relaxing process and it lasted for about 10 minutes. Check out the difference! The skin that underwent the treatment looked significantly smoother and the lines were also less prominent. Yay! I want more! And now we move on to the other side! According to Fong Siew, the repetitive motion is like a mini ‘bodybuilding’ exercise for the neck muscles. This will help the skin to regain its firmness and reduce the appearance of lines. Now we continue to lift and enhance the elasticity of the skin with a firming serum. This season, we leap and bound to style with the gradient eyeliner trend! We’ve seen gradient/ombre trends everywhere, from hair, clothes, accessories and even nails, but gradated makeup is still a rather unexplored realm in the beauty world. Or at least in this part of the world. Beauty gurus all over the globe have been spotted with graduated eyeshadow looks and the Koreans have even taken it to the next level by extending the ombre fashion to their lips! Well, we can’t lose out! 😛 They say the eyes are the windows to our soul so today, let’s be the harbingers of a new makeup era and express our inner style-loving feelings with some really cool graduated liner looks too! Well, I’m going to use it to produce all the looks for today’s post. Rainbow Queen by Front Cover Cosmetics I bought the makeup kit from Sephora last year for the photoshoot and forgot all about it afterwards. So it has been hiding in my stash for a very long time until I rediscovered it during my mid-year spring cleaning session. Haha! And I realised… it’s a diamond in the rough! Check this out! It features this groundbreaking clear liquid eyeliner called ‘Shadowline’ which turns any eyeshadow into eyeliner. Simply swipe it on your eyeshadow and it will change its texture to a gel liner form. Then apply it to the lash line as an eyeliner! Pretty awesome, eh? Here’s a full view of the makeup kit by Front Cover . Also love its gorgeous iridescent eyeshadow shades. General rules to creating gradient eyeliner: – Use hues of the same color family. – Line the inner corners of the eye with the lightest shade. – Then continue with medium shades and finish the line with the darkest shade. – Blend all shades by sweeping a liner brush over the line. Use gentle strokes as you want each color to stand out and not merge into one. And here we go! Our First Look – Purple Rain Click to enlarge image.
