A few weeks ago, I visited The Glamourous Factory (TGF)’s branch at The Clift to try their wholesome gamut of beauty services. As mentioned in my introduction, the skin on the neck is most susceptible to aging so it is imperative that you exfoliate and moisturise it regularly. However, the skin around that area also tends to be more sensitive so proceed with caution. For me, I prefer to leave it to the experts so I decided to try TGF’s Guinot Hydradermie Lift Neck Treatment to stimulate the neck muscles and tone the skin. The skin around my neck is plagued by ugly creases and wrinkles due to a bad neck care regime and excessive sun exposure when I was younger. Here’s a close up. It’s in a pretty bad shape eh? TGF to the rescue! Fong Siew, an experienced facial therapist of TGF commenced the treatment with a gentle cleansing routine to prep the skin for more nourishing products to follow later. Next, she massaged the Guinot firming gel on my skin with her hands. Guinot Firming Gel Neck Bust Decollete Then proceeded to flush out the toxins and firm the muscles by massaging the same gel on my skin with this special apparatus. It was a rather relaxing process and it lasted for about 10 minutes. Check out the difference! The skin that underwent the treatment looked significantly smoother and the lines were also less prominent. Yay! I want more! And now we move on to the other side! According to Fong Siew, the repetitive motion is like a mini ‘bodybuilding’ exercise for the neck muscles. This will help the skin to regain its firmness and reduce the appearance of lines. Now we continue to lift and enhance the elasticity of the skin with a firming serum. Fong Siew applied more pressure this time as this helps the skin absorb the essence more effectively and ultimately tighten the skin for a more refined look. Guinot Liftosome Lift Firming Face Serum Our necks need mask treatments as much as our faces do, so Fong Siew spread this ultra-hydrating mask on my neck to bring back its radiance and youthfulness. Guinot Masque Energie Lift Energizing Lifting Mask And now we wait 30 minutes for the skin to absorb all the nutrients. Alrighty! Now we remove the mask and move on to the last step. Fong Siew finished the treatment with a neck moisturiser to maintain the results and reinforce skin elasticity. Guinot Longue Vie Cou Neck Cream And we’re done! I had a few zits on my neck after the treatment but they went away after a couple of days. Nonetheless, I still think the end product was rather alarming. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting any visible improvement at all as I initially assumed that neck care treatments are for maintenance only. Well, so if you’re looking to improve the condition of your neck lines, now you know who to call. 😛 But! Don’t expect the wrinkles to disappear totally. Advertorial I’ve been enjoying my wedding planning status to the fullest with innumerable photoshoots for my Secret Garden Fairytale themed nuptials. Since the photos are the most significant memorabilia of the wedding which are usually displayed for a lifetime AND probably shown to future generations, I need to make sure that they’re perfect! 😀 So I’ve been trying to keep myself in a tip-top condition from head to toe for the past three months with a healthy diet, nail treatments and hair dye jobs – which is of course not the best for my scalp. Yup, I’ve had two dye jobs within two months. Oh, how my poor mane and scalp have suffered for the sake of art and vanity. The condition is now utterly deplorable with dry skin flaking off the scalp after every hair wash. Eek! Since I’ve another wedding photoshoot coming up, I need to make sure I revert hair-tastrophe back to hair-bulous! And so I visited the celebrated hair treatment expert, Yun Nam Hair Care . 🙂 Read on to find out if Yun Nam was able to restore my scalp to its former regal state! I visited one of Yun Nam’s biggest branches at Plaza Singapura. It is located conveniently beside the entrance to the carpark on the second floor. The salon interior eminates a vibrant positive energy as their signature orange hue bursts from every corner. 😀 Before we began, I was introduced to Michelle, the branch manager of Yun Nam Hair Care who walked me through the entire scalp treatment process with drawings and visuals. I was also asked to fill in a hair loss analysis form on which I had to declare any medical problems. And now it’s time to extract the culprits of my unhealthy scalp. I receive a detailed microscopic analysis of my scalp to diagnose its current problems. Not a good sight. See the white stuff around the roots? Those are dandruff. Here’s how it looks with the naked eye. Saw the flakes? Michelle concluded that the dandruff problem is still in its early stages so she suggested a deep cleansing routine to detox the scalp of dandruff and crud. It also restores the health of the scalp and prevent hair loss problems. Now let’s get started! But first, let me take a snack break, courtesy of Yun Nam Hair Care! 😛 This is Zoe who took over from Michelle for the first part of my treatment. Zoe explained that to allow the treatment and herbs to penetrate into the scalp and hair better, she’ll have to give my hair a light wash to remove excess oil and dirt. Here we go! She also added a specially formulated herbal lotion that is fortified with nutrients to nourish and revitalise the hair. Here’s the shampoo and conditioner that Zoe used on my hair. The products are infused with natural herbs to replenish lost nutrients in hair and revive their lustre. Herbalogy Ginseng Shampoo Their conditioner also contains anti-oxidants to protect the hair from environmental damage. Refreshing Apple Conditioner At this point, I thought I smelled like a huge Ginseng root as the shampoo was mainly made up of Ginseng extracts. Don’t get me wrong. It’s definitely not a bad thing. In fact, the aroma of Ginseng was very indulging and made me feel absolutely relaxed. Later, Zoe rinsed the bubbles away to make way for the ultimate herbal treatment to unclog and repair damaged hair follicles, stimulate new hair growth and eradicate the dandruff once and for all! Here’s my herbal treatment that’s enriched with premium chinese herbs and their trademark dandruff paste for a thorough cleansing routine. Dandruff paste Now Zoe spreads the cocktail of goodness on my scalp. And guess what? I went from smelling like Ginseng to a bowl of black sesame paste. In case you’re wondering, black sesame paste is a popular Chinese dessert. Yummeh! Then Zoe wrapped my hair with a plastic shower cap and placed a steamer hood over it to seal in the nutrients. After 30 minutes, Michelle returned to finish the second half of my treatment. She rubbed my scalp lightly to reveal the white flakes that had been lurking in the roots. According to her, the colouring jobs must have dried my scalp and induced dandruff. Eek! Save me, Michelle! My Scalp Heroine, Michelle came to by rescue with a bottle of nutritional herbal lotion and applied the “dandruff antidote” on my head before washing the hair with more ginseng shampoo. Woo hoo! Michelle finished the treatment by applying a protein lotion to strengthen the strands and a hair tonic with Ginseng essence to eliminate itchiness, dandruff and to balance pH in hair naturally. This is important as our hair and scalp oil, sebum, has a pH balance of between 4.5 and 5.5. This natural hair acidity prevents fungi and bacteria in the hair and scalp, and keeps the cuticle closed and healthy. The tonic produced a cooling sensation that was absolutely rejuvenating. Then Michelle cleansed my hair a final time before and blow drying it. And we’re done! Here’s the close-up! The results were astonishing! For better results, I’ll probably need another 5 to 10 treatments to soothe the scalp further and prevent the dandruff from returning. Well, I’ll probably come back for more treatments next month. This season, we leap and bound to style with the gradient eyeliner trend! We’ve seen gradient/ombre trends everywhere, from hair, clothes, accessories and even nails, but gradated makeup is still a rather unexplored realm in the beauty world. Or at least in this part of the world. Beauty gurus all over the globe have been spotted with graduated eyeshadow looks and the Koreans have even taken it to the next level by extending the ombre fashion to their lips! Well, we can’t lose out! 😛 They say the eyes are the windows to our soul so today, let’s be the harbingers of a new makeup era and express our inner style-loving feelings with some really cool graduated liner looks too! Well, I’m going to use it to produce all the looks for today’s post. So it has been hiding in my stash for a very long time until I rediscovered it during my mid-year spring cleaning session. Haha! And I realised… it’s a diamond in the rough! Check this out! It features this groundbreaking clear liquid eyeliner called ‘Shadowline’ which turns any eyeshadow into eyeliner. Simply swipe it on your eyeshadow and it will change its texture to a gel liner form. Then apply it to the lash line as an eyeliner! Pretty awesome, eh? General rules to creating gradient eyeliner: – Use hues of the same color family. – Line the inner corners of the eye with the lightest shade. – Then continue with medium shades and finish the line with the darkest shade. – Blend all shades by sweeping a liner brush over the line. It’s been four months since the South Korean TV series “My Love From The Star” wrapped up its improbable yet romantic love story, but fans are still not over it. Its fashion is still the talk of the town and its makeup? Well, still highly feted by beauty-nistas and makeup artists all over the globe. Everything its leading lady, Jun Ji Hyun (who plays Cheon Song Yi) touched turned into gold! Her trademark neon coloured lipsticks, adorable pj’s and headbands have become absolute cult favorites. So instead of pinning all my favorite Cheon Song Yi looks on a mood board, I decided to try the looks through a video tutorial. And my key inspiration? Her bridal look of course! I’ve read many great testimonials of Shunji Matsuo’s amazing hair transforming services so I decided to pay their esteemed salon a visit. I was introduced to William and Jessica who analysed my hair and face structure thoroughly before making any recommendations. Yeap. I felt like I was seeing a hair doctor. How professional! I always thought wedding hair should be one-toned, classic and safe. You know, this scene always plays in my head when I make life-changing decisions – like creating the look for my pre-nuptial photos. 😛 Imagine showing your grandkids your wedding album 40 years from now and they shriek at the sight of your multi-colored unicorn hair, electric blue nails or hideous early 21st century makeup. Not good. So I told William I wanted one-toned, classic and safe wedding hair. Basically, BORING hair. William, Director of the salon and armed with more than 8 years of experience of course laughed and said I could still still have fun with my hair. He suggested playing it up a bit with something more three-dimensional, stylish yet classy for the photo shoot. Like… enhancing my current hair by covering up the roots and adding lighter highlights! Here’s my ill-maintained mane that hasn’t been trimmed for more than three months. Gulp! Before we began… Are you always uncomfortable leaving your belongings behind while you go to the shampoo area? I know I am. So I was happy to see these cabinets for customers to lock away their handbags. Lockable storage cabinets for customers Magazines and drinks were also served promptly before the hair treatment began. And now we’re ready for the makeover! This is Jessica who’s touching up my awful roots and adding highlights for a glowy and bright hairdo. A hood dryer was placed over my head to hasten the drying process while holding in the moisture. My hair was dull, limp and flat. So William also gave me a full hair treatment to give my lacklustre hair a boost. If privacy is a concern, you’ll be glad to know that the shampoo area is divided by frosted glass partitions. Now you don’t have to be caught with dripping wet hair. 🙂 Jessica rinsed the hair dye off my hair before giving my scalp a soothing massage. Then she commenced the deep moisturising treatment by applying Shiseido Professiona’s The Hair Care Aqua Intensive Mask on my tresses. Next, Jessica nourished my dry strands further by supplying it with hot steam. The hair steamer is the holy grail of hair care as it allows optical absorption of moisture and increases hair growth as the steam increases blood flow to the scalp. My hair after the intensive treatment. To be honest, I never liked the hair colouring process and sometimes the treatment too. Because many hair stylists tend to pull my hair a lot while applying the dye. I’ve no idea why they do that. So I usually suffer from massive hair loss during the process. It happens sometimes during a hair treatment too. Have you belles experienced this too? My hair treatment process at Shunji Matsuo was pretty relaxing like I was at a hair spa. No pulling and tugging of hair – which I totally appreciate. 🙂 William trimmed my hair with a mixture of cutting techniques such as precision, inverse layering and of course also the legendary niche cutting technique that was invented by Shunji Matsuo himself and Kazuhide Inoue 井上 和英, Director of renowned Japanese salon chain Fiber Zone and Zone and Section Academy. The niche cutting technique focuses on creating a perfect structured style that aligns with the skeletal structure of the face and the hair fiber. Therefore, the hairstyle will last longer, be more resilient to changes and will also frame the face shape perfectly. Jessica blow dried and curled my hair after William snipped off the dry ends. Initially I was worried that the highlights might be a little too light, but William was right. The curls do stand out more now. 😀 Just when I thought I was good to go, William came over and began to layer my hair further. I was surprised as I was wondering how he could see the true length when my hair is all curled up like that. I was getting worried again. He assured me that he knew what he was doing as he focuses not on the length but the style of the hair. All he could picture while he was trimming was the hair shape that flatters my face. And I was done! Hmm.. I see what he meant. The new layers give the illusion of bouncier hair with more volume. I love it! It’s finally here – the much awaited pre-nuptial photoshoot in Paris! Since the impromptu overseas shoot trimmed off a huge portion of our wedding budget, I decided to be my own makeup artist and create my own bridal looks. Besides being a great cost-saving measure, this decision also allows me to choose makeup that highlights my best features and offsets the less-flattering ones. Well, no one knows your face better than you do, right? 😛 But! What cosmetics should I bring? I feel like I need everything on my vanity desk. Since I’ll also be lugging a ton of gowns and styling tools, I guess I’ll have to have to be prudent when it comes to choosing the right cosmetics for the shoot. Before I delve into my cosmetics list, I thought I could first look for an affordable and possibly scalable makeup organiser or beauty box to create an efficient packing system for my makeup. And after some intensive researching, I found three miracle solutions that are total space-savers and that make amazing additions to any dressing table. Meet the “REAL” beauty boxes! 😛 This Hello Kitty makeup bag is my must-have when I’m on the go. But since I’m going to create several looks with a thousand makeup products for this trip, its quart-sized interior won’t cut it. Also forget the brush rolls and makeup pouches that can only contain a couple of brushes, eyeshadows and lippies. We’re on a mission here. We need something light, durable and hopefully affordable. 🙂 And this might be the ultimate makeup organising solution. From Japanese lifestyle store, MUJI Meet the Muji Makeup Box. Yup. This is what it says on the tag. This handy nylon beauty box measures 16.5cm high, 23.5cm wide and 16.5 long and is selling at a pocket-friendly price of SGD36. It comes with compartments of different sizes to hold all kinds of makeup, even dinky containers. Its design is practical and thoughtful. Check out the protective flap that covers brush heads. It keeps the brushes in pristine condition by preventing them from fraying during transportation. It also provides a pair of detachable lid props. Yay! Now I can keep the box open while rummaging around for tools and powders. It’s a great fluster buster for morning makeup routines. And finally, here’s why it’s a total keeper. MUJI offers an assortment of vanity cases and containers of different shapes, sizes and heights that you can use to compartmentalise and customise your makeup box. They work like a puzzle where you can stack and slide the containers, so they fit and sit neatly on top of one another forming a rectangular shape which you can slot into the bag. Here are the containers that I got to suit my specific travelling beauty needs. The mirror shown below on the left also doubles up as a nice lid covering all the containers. The containers cost less than SGD3.60. The only expensive item on my receipt was the mirror that retails at SGD13.90. Not a bad purchase, eh? Well, it seems like that’s not exactly true. Kudos to Korean beauty brand, Brilliant, we can also give our chapped lips an enriching treatment of vitamins and emollients. Since I came back from Phuket last weekend, the skin around my lips has been pretty dry and red from sunburns. Most facial masks do not cover the mouth area so this product is truly a godsend. The gel patch felt cool and snug against my lips. After 20 minutes of intense nourishment, the lip lines lightened and my lips felt moist and soothed. My lips remained smooth for a few hours even after drinking and eating. The gel patch is part of a 3-step lip treatment program. Here’s the full set known as the Love Heart Lip Care 3 Step System . I heard they are all sold out at BB already. Aww.. I wanna purchase them all! Wut??! All sold out??? This next item is also a lip product! The gaping difference is – it also functions as a cheek product! Read on!
