“Reading is a discount ticket to everywhere.” – Mary Schmich I am strongly inspired by this quote and deeply believe in the notion that reading empowers a person. Moreover, reading… Enhances smarts and memory Kills boredom Boosts reasoning and analytical skills Builds self-esteem (Now that you are more knowledgeable) Helps you become a better orator (In a particular subject matter) So cultivate the habit of reading today! And to help you with that, I’ve set up Honeyz BookStore – an online Internet bookstore – to provide you a flexible and convenient avenue to shop for books (after reading my blog posts :P). This is how the bookstore looks like. The books that I recommend in this store are books that I’ve read or books that have received great reviews on Amazon, and most of them centers on issues that are relevant to women today. The topics include: Career, Fashion and Style, Relationships, Lifestyle, Travels, etc. One of my most favorite: ‘Women, Work & the Art of Savoir Faire: Business Sense & Sensibility’ by Mireille Guiliano where Guiliano tells of her experiences as the CEO of Veuve Clicquot and how she overcame problems in a male-dominated work environment. She also offered many useful tips for workplace survival for women. Tempted to visit the store yet? Here’s a simple navigation guide. If you would like to browse by categories, you may click on the titles under ‘Browse by Category’ as shown below. And if you like a particular book and would like to purchase it, you may just click on its title and add the book to your Amazon shopping cart. (If you don’t have an existing Amazon account, you may sign up here .) It is pretty easy to use. The shopping experience is almost exactly like Amazon’s except that these books are recommended by me. I’ve also created a page that features my latest book picks. You can access it from the Honeyz Book Picks tab above or click on this banner which is situated on the left bar. You can also go directly to your favorite book’s product details page from the ‘Honeyz Book Picks’ page by simply clicking on their images or the Click here to buy ♥ button. Remember, reading gives you the added edge and pushes you closer to your life goals. Start reading today! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to read Stephen Covey’s ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective People’. Love, Juliana #amazon #books #honeyzbookpicks #Photography

  • Honeyz Beauty Review: Dove Damage Therapy Intense Repair Treatment Hair Mask

Shrieks! Does your hair look like that? I hope not. Raise your hand if you ever envied Disney Princess, Pocahontas’ long luscious hair! Picture Credits: Wikipedia *raising my hand up high* I used to be really amazed by how she could effortlessly maintain her straight and silky hair even when she is leaping off cliffs and swimming into waterfalls all the time. (Childhood fantasy.) Every woman dreams of having long lustrous locks and this dream becomes more enthralling when a ‘big night’ such as prom, a wedding dinner or the long awaited date is around the corner. (Because we all know that our hair affects our looks to a very LARGE extent.) See what bad hair does to your overall appearance. Do you often find yourself amid the wreckage of a bad hair day like this? Unhealthy and frizzy hair not only makes you look unkempt and listless, it also makes you feel less confident. And this is NOT how a Honeyz girl should be. “This is hopeless. What should I do??” Remedy please!!! Well, I’ve got good news for you. I found a great product that can effectively curb this problem and relive your childhood fantasy! “Really?” Yes! Quench your parched locks with… Dove Damage Therapy Intense Repair Treatment Hair Mask! Dove was first launched by consumer goods behemoth, Unilever in the 1950s. Since then, Dove has been providing consumers an extensive range of value-for-money beauty products. I’ve always been a huge fan of Dove and recently demonstrated my love by liking their Facebook Page . That paid off as I noticed their FB page was giving away free samples of their new Dove Therapy Intense Damage Treatment Hair Mask so I decided to redeem one too. The sample arrived within two weeks. Hang on! I just realised this sounds very much like an advertorial. Just a clarification. I am in no way affiliated to Dove and the introduction sounds favorable because this is indeed a very fantastic product! To play safe, I’m placing my disclaimer here instead. 🙂 Disclaimer: Do keep in mind that reviews are entirely subjective. It is normal to have differing views so please don’t hate me if I didn’t speak well of your favourite product. I definitely have no intentions of distorting the image of any brand. Well, to each his own, isn’t it? Peace! Seriously, I love this thing so much. The texture of the mask is rather thick. So I’ll usually just apply a dollar coin-sized dollop of the mask to my tresses during deep-conditioning treatments. Here’s a close up of the mask for your reference. Have you guys realised that Dove products have a rather distinctive smell? I think I can literally smell a Dove user out from a group of people. Well, the reason why I brought this up is because I thought this mask enhances that smell on your hair by tenfold. If you’ve always been a fan of the signature Dove scent, you’ll love this baby. My hair has been in a bad state for the longest time. It lacks luster and is extremely dry and coarse (Thus the tousled look all the time). I believe you would have noticed that from the pictures of the fashion shoots. After using Dove’s treatment mask, I thought it was pretty nourishing to my dried locks and even made them look glossier. I could see the improved texture of my hair after one use. Pictures below! (Do note that I also trimmed my hair slightly before this shoot.) Pretty significant improvement, eh? And this was after a second use. Close up! Mummy used it on her frizzy and permed hair too. Before using Dove Treatment Mask… After using the treatment mask… Juxtaposed both photos for comparison. Hairsplitting difference? (Attempting a pun. :P) I don’t think so. It is blatantly obvious that my mum’s hair became silkier and shiner and the frizziness was totally tamed just after one use. I liked it so much, I bought a 200ml tub of the treatment mask! I’m wearing Megagamine’s (MGG) Boho Tie Blouse in Kelly Green by the way. I also bought the Dove Hair Fall Therapy Treatment Mask. These masks retails at Guardian Pharmacy at S$10.90. Psst! I bought mine at Swanstons and Ocean at People’s Park Market at S$4.20 and S$8.50 respectively. All in all, I give this baby 4.5 Honeyz Crowns out of 5. The strong fragrance can be overwhelming at times, otherwise I think this is a great Dry Hair Savior. Of course, you don’t have to take my word for it. Try it yourself by redeeming your Dove Free Sample today! -> Honeyz Free Samples As per ‘Honeyz Beauty Review’ tradition, I’m culminating this post with some hair care tips! Do you know that a person can lose between 75 and 100 strands of hair everyday? And this does not even include hair strands that break! The following pointers will help you prevent further hair breakage. Dry hair is more vulnerable to breakage as it is more brittle than normal hair. So use less styling products as they cause hair to become drier. Try not to brush or comb your hair too often as this will cause hair to become weak. I brush my hair once a day and that is before I rinse off my hair conditioner so that my hair absorbs the moisture more evenly. Don’t wash your hair everyday as too much washing will make your hair dry. Let the natural oils moisturize your hair. Wear your hair up when you’re going to be active and this will prevent breakage. A diet rich in protein is great for hair growth. I often indulge in yogurt (which is a great source of protein) after dinner. Other high-protein food: beans, fish, meat, nuts and seeds. After hair wash, try not to rub your hair dry with your towel as it will cause your hair to tangle. Instead, dry your hair by blotting the water out of your wet hair. Trim your hair once every three months to prevent split ends. After exposure to sunlight and to salt water and chlorine, deep conditioning of hair is needed. Use Dove’s Treatment Mask! Stride your way to healthy looking hair today! Love, Juliana #beautyreview #beauty #beautytips #dove #hairproducts #dovereview

  • Fashion Review: Agneselle (AE) Kourtney Floral Skirt & Romantic Chiffon Sleeve Dress

I’m finally back from my ‘Fashion Sabbatical’! Apologies for the hiatus as I’ve been really busy with work and events lately. I attended a nice wedding, went to the museum to see the legendary Terracotta Warriors, met up with old friends and attended the ‘Miss Singapore World Pageant’! Bernice, Miss Thailand and me. She’s gorgeous, isn’t she? Anyway, I hope you ladies are having a great day so far and all ready to hit the online malls for your weekly shopping extravaganza. But before you throw your budget all out of whack with those online purchases, here are my reviews for this edition. 🙂 Kourtney Floral Skirt in Black Afterthoughts… I’m a sucker for floral prints so this flowery number definitely caught my attention. It doesn’t help that it’s a tulip skirt. Tulip skirts are all the rage these days. I spotted many girls donning tulip skirts when I was shopping in town. There’s no question why since tulip skirts are well known to flatter any body shape and hide any unwanted bulges. The material of this skirt is great and the workmanship is just as good. It comes with an inner garment layer so it’s not sheer even under sunlight. The down side: Ironing this skirt was quite a drag as the hem tend to ‘extend’ after wash. I’m not sure if this is due to an expansion of the inner lining fabric. Not an expert on textile. Overall, I thought this is a pretty good buy as it hides my heavy bottom pretty well and creates the illusion for slimmer legs with its slightly flared hem. I’m giving it four out of five Honeyz crowns! Romantic Chiffon Sleeve Dress in Lavender Afterthoughts… I thought this is a pretty interesting piece. The chiffon material is so delicate that it looks like you’re wearing a layer of lilac mist. Very feminine. The three quarter sleeves also adds a touch of beauty and class to this dress. It comes with a removable petticoat. The material is of a pretty good quality. However, I thought the workmanship of the dress could be better. It is not exactly shoddy but I would say it was probably done without sufficient attention. Here’s why. One of the straps of the petticoat was actually sewn on the wrong side of the fabric. Other than this, the workmanship of this dress is pretty decent. I think this dress deserves three Honeyz crowns. Not surprisingly, the poor quality of the workmanship cost it two Honeyz crowns. But still a worthy buy in my opinion. Great design, cutting and material. Models Thank you for your continued support. Have a terrific weekend! Love, Juliana Disclaimer: I know I’m going to sound like a broken record but I would like to emphasize again that Honeyz fashion reviews are NOT advertorial posts. I do not endorse any of those brands featured. Rather, I’m trying to show you how normal girls (girls with non-supermodel statures) look like in clothing from these famous boutiques. • Honeyz Travel Tips: Things To Do On A Plane ( A budget airline, that is)

Always bored on a plane? In particular, a budget airline’s airplane? I hear you! ‘Honeyz Travel Tips’ to the rescue! Today, I’m going to interject my fashion reviews with this post on things non-aerophiles can do when they are bored on an airplane. Budget flights = No frills flight -> This also means NO entertainment, space, food or service. So it can get really boring and even claustrophobic at times. Alas, it is still a mandatory process we have to go through before we get to paradise (I’m assuming you’re going on a holiday.) Well, fret not! Eradicate that boredom with the following tips. (This might be good for aerophobes too. Good form of distraction.) First up.. before the plane takes off… 1) Apply skin moisturizers! That is like the utmost important thing to do as air in an aircraft is much drier than air on Earth and this can cause dehydration. (Dehydration can cause dry itchy skin, bloodshot eyes and a dry and irritated nose.) The dry air in the cabin also strips your skin off its much needed moisture and this happens the very minute you board the plane! Not good. So load up on moisturizers (preferably the serum type) and drink lots of fluids to prevent dehydration. 2) Next, buckle up! And this is demonstrated by pretty Zel. Next up. 3) Take loads of pictures! (Before the plane takes off, that is. You don’t want to cause interference with any communication equipment of the plane. ) To kill boredom and to calm nerves caused by aerophobia. 4) Check out the inflight menu! Most of them are pretty expensive anyway. 5) So probably good to eat your ‘smuggled’ food. OR! 6) Try the pastries offered by the airline. Other random things you can do… 7) Compare buns with your neighbor. (No pun intended) Hmmz.. the right bun looks more bloated than the left one 8) Since you’re in mid-air now, great time to take pictures of the huge marshmallow clouds outside your window. Slow flight…. yawn… Feeling sluggish? 9) Go to sleep! Flying is the best time to catch up on sleep. Can’t sleep?? Wait! I have more suggestions! 10) Polish your silver jewelry! I bet you never had time to polish those oxidised silver. This is the best time to do it. 11) Check out the inflight reads! There are pretty good inflight magazines on the plane. Perfect time to check out great DFS deals – perfumes, cosmetics, alcohol and interesting accounts of other travel destinations by the airline travel magazine. 12) Chat up with your neighbor! Great time to practice flirting. 😛 13) Play with your ipad! Use this time to practice mahjong skills, compose a song, watch a movie, etc. Bored playing alone on your tablet? 14) Invite your neighbor too! Challenge them to a game of chess! This is actually my first installment of ‘Honeyz Travel: Beautiful Bali Wedding’. I attended my good friend, Wenny’s wedding in Bali recently. And I thought it is one of the most beautiful and romantic weddings that I’ve ever attended. So I’m documenting my trip to her bali wedding with a series of Honeyz Travel posts. Check out the preview of the next ‘Honeyz Travel: Beautiful Bali Wedding‘ post. Hills and waters beneath a veil of sunlight. Beautiful eh? Picture Credits: (In order of appearance) Jo Zel Lave Ved Hock MC and Ken Bok Thanks guys for starring in my post. Meanwhile, I hope you gorgeous ladies are looking forward to my next Honeyz Travel post already. (They could provide great ideas and tips for your wedding or honeymoon! :P) Thanks for reading and have a great flight! I mean night! Love, Juliana #bali #Photography #travel

  • Fashion Review: Agneselle (AE) Sarah Chiffon Blue Top and Kim Asymmetrical Band Toga Dress

Another expression of my brewing passion for fashion… Hola! I hope you gorgeous ladies have had a great long weekend. Have you also done lots of online shopping during this period? Stop! Before you hit the buy button again, I’m back with another fashion review to justify your purchase decision. Read on! Agneselle Kim Asymmetrical Band Toga Dress in Black Afterthoughts… I think this could be one of AE’s most covetable dresses ever. Good material? Checked. Accentuates curves? Checked. Good craftsmanship? Checked. Sexy yet classy? Double checked! No riding up effect for me. This is like the utmost important criteria for me when it comes to body hugging dresses. The dress comes in many juicy hues such as jewel blue, raspberry, cream and grey. And I picked the black one as it reminds me of Gabrielle Chanel’s classy style but with an added tinge of gamine in it. The asymmetrical contrast waist band is really unique and I thought this feature actually draws attention away from the tummy area. However, I thought this dress felt slightly tight when I sit down but it is not suffocating though. As a whole, I thought this dress is a pretty good buy. I’m awarding it a 9 out of 10! Go get yours too! Summer Dash 1’s Sarah Chiffon Blue Top Jetsetting! Afterthoughts I thought this is a rather understated piece. But still a worthy buy! You can easily go the other way (the flamboyant way that is) by pairing it with with a pencil skirt or pants for a chic corporate look or transform into a travel or beach goddess by matching it with a pair of cute denim shorts. I like chiffon tops that are adorned with ruffles like this. Less boring and less focus on the ‘less-endowed’ figure. 😛 It comes with a complimentary black spaghetti strap (petticoat top) as the top alone is pretty sheer. But not to worry, the material does not compromise the durability (I know that because I was pretty harsh with it while changing. :P) The material feels really soft and hence, it’s very comfortable to wear. All in all, a 10 out of 10. The material was nothing short of high quality. Basically, I saw no flaws. Model Behind the scenes… The main lead. Ooh la la! I was one of the first 60 customers to purchase from AE in this collection and was rewarded with a John Galliano Parlez-Moi d’Amour fragrances sample vial. Fun shots Attempting sexy… Grrr.. wild cat! Ok. Epic fail. Also played with Instagram while resting… I’m addicted to this thing! Alright! That’s all fashion-forward folks! Once again, thank you for reading. Before I sign off, I would like to announce that I finally joined the Formspring bandwagon! The plugin is on your left. Do feel free to ask me questions about the clothes, the shoots, the make up or anything related to Honeyz. Well, I may also entertain some personal questions. (Depends lah!) Please continue to watch this space because more drool-worthy dresses are coming your way! • Fashion Review: Corporate LookBook

I’m bitten by the fashion bug again! I’ve been working for some time now and office wear has indubitably become an essential to me. I used to think it’s not easy to look corporate and stylish at the same time. Well, I’m definitely holding a different view now with the surge in online fashion stores that focus on corporate clothing. They not only sell quality clothes but also provide great ideas and tips on corporate fashion. These blog shops have created a new shopping culture for OLs (office lady) like us and have certainly made our shopping experience a more convenient and pleasant one. One such blogshop is Corporate LookBook (Corporate LookBook’s website) . I was introduced to them by a friend a month ago and was pretty impressed with the vast array of designs of clothes in their store. So there you go. A fashion review on Corporate LookBook. But! I’m going to try something different this time. Instead of diving straight into the review, I will show you ladies ‘The Making of the Honeyz Fashion Spread’ first. Enjoy! And TADA! BIG head! FYI, this photo was not doctored. Haha… I guess you’re tired of all this silliness. Alright, moving on to the review. Now, please allow me to present you ‘Honeyz Review: Corporate LookBook’. Katelyn Pants (Click here to view it on CLB’s website.) Katelyn Pants These pants have definitely become my closet staple. You can easily pair it with a tee for a casual look and a blazer for a more serious look. How versatile is that?! I like that the pants hug my calves snugly to give the illusion of slimmer legs. It comes with a complimentary brown belt (as seen in the photos). I also adore the interior lace lining. Subtle but tasteful. The pants is also made of stretchy material and it’s ruched at the back. I would give the pants a 9 out of 10. One demerit point for its loosely sewn button. Otherwise it’s a great piece and definitely value for money. Tyla Chiffon Dress (Click here to view it on CLB’s website.) Love the juxtaposition of JW and me in the same dress! JW is standing at 153cm while I’m 161cm. FYI, we did not have two of this dress. See below. Tyla Chiffon Dress This pretty one actually comes with a matching sash as seen on CLB’s website which I did not wear in the shoot. The material of this dress is thin but substantial. It’s not sheer at all. I like that it’s soft and comfortable. However, I thought the workmanship of this dress pales in comparison to the pants and the polka dots top that I’m going to review later. I found some loose threads on the rose petals details. The length of this dress is 33.5 inches. Since it’s catered for the workplace, I thought that is pretty reasonable. You can always shorten it with a waist belt for afterwork parties for a more fun and flirty look. All in all, I think this dress exudes the right amount of sophistication and fun. So 7 out of 10! Charlotte Polka Dots Top (Click here to view it on CLB’s website.) Charlotte Polka Dots Top I love the material and the workmanship of this top. Fabric is fantastic and not sheer at all. Buttons were also sewn on firmly. This is the top in normal light. I love this top especially the puffed sleeves. I’ve worn it umpteen times now, for work and play. Seriously, I’m giving this top a 10 out of 10. Great material, design and workmanship. This pretty much sums it up. Model I hope you’ve enjoyed this review. 🙂 I’ve received many wonderful comments from you sweeties and I’m glad my blog has become your fashion and beauty bible. Thank you for your ardent support. More goodies are coming your way, I swear! Please continue to visit this blog! • Fashion Review: Agneselle (AE) Bejewel Dress (Pink) & High Waist Midi Skirt (Yellow)

Many of my friends have remarked that they think 80 per cent of my wardrobe are Agneselle’s (AE) clothes as I wear AE at least four times a week! Haha.. it’s no wonder why. AE offers unbeatable quality. I like that the workmanship of their clothes are always consistent and never shoddy. So no surprise. Today’s fashion spotlight is on Agneselle again. 🙂 Bejewel Dress in Pink Bejewel Dress in Pink JW looks great in this pretty number doesn’t she? I’ve hand washed this once before the shoot to test its quality and the durability of the sew-on diamantes. This was the result. My AE quality test Pretty decent workmanship. As you can see, most of the diamantes remained firmly on the dress except one. (Well, at least it did not come off completely.) I was also expecting some lint balls after the wash on the polyester top. But nope, none was in sight. Plus one to that! Also, the cutting is flattering to my body shape and it adds to my feminine curves. Plus ten to that! Alright, here comes the downside, it has a tendency to slide up my bottom as I walk so that threw me off a little. Overall, I think I would give this dress an 8 out of 10. 2 demerit points for the ‘riding-up’ effect. Otherwise, I think it’s a close-to-perfect fit. 🙂 High Waist Midi Skirt in Yellow High Waist Midi Skirt in Yellow I’ve nothing but good stuff to say about this little sunshine. Firstly, I would like to promulgate that I’m no fan of midi skirts due to their awkward lengths and their tendency to add extra numbers to my age. (Qualms of being pint-sized.) So I spent a long time grappling with whether or not to add the skirt to my shopping cart even though it looks fantastic on PL. And in the end, I did. 🙂 Now I regret not getting all the colors! The skirt is so pretty! It does not look bulky on me at all. The fabric is awesome too! Its thick inner lining makes it comparable with clothes from high-end boutiques. And I could see no loose threads on the hem of the skirt. However, it tends to crumple easily. But it’s not such a big deal to me. All in all, I’ll give this skirt a 10 out of 10. I love its cheery color and it makes me want to bask in the sun at the beach soon! (I’m so glad it’s summer in Singapore all year around.) • Gelish Nails Review: Nail Indulgence De Beau (uBeau)

Advertorial No one ever told me that gelish nails can be as addictive as chocolates. Ever since I tried gelish nails earlier this year, I’m totally hooked! Why? Cus I no longer have to go for a manicure thrice a month due to chipped nail polish as my gelish nails stays glossy and chip-free for three full weeks! I had a wonderful experience at Nail Indulgence De Beau (uBeau) the last time and so I’m back for more! (Click here to view my inaugural review on uBeau.) So there you go. A second review on uBeau’s gelish nails. 🙂 First step! Remove the gelish nails! Removal of gelish nails don’t have to be a messy affair as many have claimed. Check out the ‘grimless’ hands after gelish nail removal. 😛 I guess most of you are aware by now that you have to cure your gelish nails in an LED lamp in order for it to dry completely. Well, I used to hate this process due to my pyrophobia. Everytime I stick my hands into this thing, I feel like I’m barbequeing them in a toaster oven. I never dared to move one bit just in case those lights ‘toast’ my hands too. Well, Amanda (owner of uBeau) assured me that I will never be scalded by this thing as the temperature is not high enough even though it feels hot. None of the other nail technicians I’ve met ever told me that. When I asked them, they will usually instruct me to try not to move. So one more testimonial for uBeau’s great service! Have you ever looked into the lamp before? I was curious so I snapped a picture of it. For your reference too! This time, I’ve requested for a cheerier nail art design that is less serious and feminine than the last one (See below). So Amanda recommended these colors. Color: Shake it til you Samba (Yeah.. that’s its name.) Color: Ooba Ooba Blue Oooh.. Very pretty neon colors. I love the end result! Amanda did this polka dot french manicure design that is so cute, they look like candies! And they make me wanna sing ‘Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini…’ Haha… Well, it’s hard to delineate the design here. So here are the photos! If you like what you’ve just seen and can’t wait to try out gelish nails too… Hold your horses! I’ve got great news for you! Yes! If you quote ‘Honeyz’ at Nail Indulgence De beau (uBeau), you’ll be able to enjoy gelish nails at just $28! (It costs $50 originally.) To top it off, you enjoy 10% off for additional services! Let’s party with Nail Indulgence De Beau’s pretty nails today! Psst! I actually heard a uBeau customer said this before she left the salon, “Wow, this is the most beautiful nails I’ve seen. Best manicure ever!” No kidding. Before I sign off, here’s a peek at what went on ‘behind the curtains’. I looked like I was about to eat the foundation case. The cute props that made me feel hungry throughout the shoot. Lastly, I wanna thank Ms Lily Tan for her exquisitely designed food props. She’s not Ms Lily Tan by the way. They are all for sale! Check out their facebook page here ! Thanks for reading! I look forward to seeing all your pretty nails too! Send me photos! • Honeyz Charity Awareness: Singapore SPCA

Today, I’m going to switch gears and talk about something that is not related to my blog’s foci (Beauty, Fashion and Travel). Baffled? Alright, let me elucidate this further. Have you ever wondered why my blog domain is ilovebunny.net and not honeyz.com, fashion something dot com or anything of those sorts? Yes, ‘I Love Bunny’ is unrelated to Honeyz or her objectives at all (No, it wasn’t inspired by Playboy either). Well, as the name suggests, it is a proclamation of my love for my pet bunny. Besides, it sounds really cute. 😛 My bunny, my best friend. I understand that creating a blog url that is entirely unrelated to my blog name or objectives is a very bad marketing and branding move for my website. But I guess my love for my rabbit far exceeded my branding objectives. This domain name also serves as a constant reminder of my commitment towards my bunny. A pet is not a toy. Once you acquire one, you should take full responsibility of its well-being and shower him with the love and care that he deserves. Okok. I’m getting to the point. The intent of this post is not to profess or pledge my undying love for my bunny but to raise awareness for the many abandoned animals that are out there because of their irresponsible owners. If you’re wondering why I’m doing this. Because I believe in the notion that a Honeyz belle should not always be hunky-dory about life, but also always have a heart to contribute back to the world that she lives in. And I believe all you ladies who are reading this now IS a Honeyz belle and I’m proud of you. 🙂 Do you know that there are many celebrities who possess this Honeyz spirit too? Not only are they talented and beautiful, but they are also all ready to give back to society anytime. Jeannie Mai, Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Hayden Panettiere, just to name a few. So, from time to time, I’m going to share information on the various Voluntary Welfare organizations (VWO), Social Enterprises and Non-Profit organizations (NPO) in Singapore. And today’s Charity limelight is none other than The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Credits to www.spca.org.sg Little animals are so adorable that many have acquired them on impulse which have often resulted in abandonment as these pet owners were often not fully aware of the kind of responsibility that was cast upon them. The SPCA takes in a whopping number of 600 abandoned animals every month. This is made up of cats, dogs and rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters. Many of these animals had owners who gave them up because no one had the time to take care of them. Some of these pets were even abandoned on the streets to fend for themselves. Just imagine pitiful unkempt and hirsute-looking abandoned animals on the street. Awful sight I know. So how can you help? Report animal abuse! Become a volunteer or even better, become a corporate volunteer and get everyone in your workplace involved! Don’t buy animals from pet shops, foster animals at the SPCA instead! Become a sponsor! Help fund SPCA’s welfare work. To find out more on how you can help, visit SPCA’s website ( www.spca.org.sg ) or become a fan of their Facebook page ( www.facebook.com/spcasingapore ) for daily updates on adoptions, pet care talks as well as animal movements that you can play a part in. These animals deserve a chance to live like your pets and mine. So be an animal protector today! Picture credits Photographer: My mummy and Sa’adah! They were too shy to pose for me. 🙁 Anyway, here’s a picture my mum took. I hope this post has given you a better insight on the kind of help our society needs. Remember, a ‘quintessential Honeyz girl’ always gives back! With love, Juliana Be a volunteer today! Volunteering requires us to take initiative and also provides a great platform for us to apply what we have learnt and help us grow. It’s ok if you’re a tyro in volunteering. There’s always a first time right? Moreover, most VWOs usually access your skill sets before they assign you any task. So no sweat! There are many VWOs out there that are constantly in urgent need of volunteers. For volunteering opportunities, please visit www.nvpc.org.sg Disclaimer: I’m not an official spokesperson for any of the organizations mentioned. • Nail Care Tutorial: Tips for Strong and Healthy Nails

It’s nails talk time! I have a proclivity for broken nails, as my nails are extremely brittle. As such, I’m constantly on a hunt for ways to protect my nails and to prevent another ‘cracked nails disaster’. Do you suffer from the same nail problem too? Well, fret not! Cus today, I’m going to share some tips on how to take care and strengthen your nails. 1) Dry your nails after contact with water (e.g. shower or swimming). Always keep nails dry, as prolonged contact with water will result in peeling or splitting fingernails. 2) Quit bitting your nails! Your nails are made up of layers of keratin and saliva softens the keratin. So nail biting can potentially disfigure your nails and cause nail infections. 3) Exercise good nail hygiene. Regularly trim your nails to keep them neat. Make sure that your nail instruments are clean to avoid the spread of germs. 4) File your nails correctly! File your nails in one direction towards the centre of the nail. Never do it back-and forth. 5) Moisturize and hydrate your nails. Dry nails break easily, hence apply moisturizers into your nails regularly, especially after removing nail polish. (Psst! Olive oil is a good moisturizer for nails.) 6) Eat healthy! Vitamins, especially Vitamine B and E contribute to strong nails. Thus, remember to incorporate them in your daily diet! In addition, sufficient sleep and exercise will also lead to healthy looking nails. 7) Protect your nails by applying nail polish. Nail polish increases your nails’ ability to resist breaks and it also protects your nails from free radicals. Change it every 7 days or so and do not peel the nail polish. Speaking of nail polish. Have you ladies heard of gelish gel polish? Gelish gel polish is gel that acts like a nail polish. I realized many of my friends have mistaken them for acrylic nails due to its equally long lasting effect as compared to traditional nail polish. Well… a hell of a difference. Acrylic nails are hard and they have a corrosive effect on the natural nail due to the use of primers whereas gel nails are more flexible and smoother and primers are not used. In the long run, acrylic could even damage the structure and natural shine of your nails. On the other hand, gelish nails leaves no hard impression on your nails and you can apply Gelish nail polish regularly and still enjoy healthy nails. Here’s my good friend, Jo’s testimonial for gelish nails. “Since I started using gelish nail polish, my nails are longer these days as the polish prevents them from chipping!” Well, both Jo and I agree that our nails are growing at least 0.1mm per day because of our gelish nail polishes. So the next question is where is a good place to get pretty gelish nails? Personally, I endorse Nail Indulgence De Beau (uBeau), located at Liang Seah Street. Their nail technicians are very professional and friendly. Furthermore, they have a vast array of gelish nail colours that are too darling to resist! Please click here for my review. Here are my nails, 2 weeks after the nails review post. Here’s a close up. My nail color is still in good shape. I’m impressed! Book an appointment with them today!
