I used the product for three consecutive days and this is what I think of it… The first thing I noticed about the product is its thin and watery texture. Its lightweight property makes the product really easy to apply on my face and large body areas evenly. Beauty tip… How much sunscreen to apply for each area? Most people don’t apply enough sunscreen and this can result in unwanted sunburns. In theory, you should use approximately two milligrams of sunscreen per square centimeter of skin. In practice, this means applying two tablespoons of sunscreen to the exposed areas of the face and body – a 50-cent sized dollop to the face alone. After applying, I think my skin absorbed the product almost immediately as the stickiness vanished almost instantly. I performed a simple experiment. I applied UV Milk on one arm and a regular sunscreen on the other and this was what happened after 10 seconds. It is pretty evident that UV milk disappeared into my skin and the regular sunscreen was still sitting on my skin looking shiny and dewy. The regular sunscreen also left an unsightly white film on my arm, whereas UV milk seeped into my skin leaving no white cast nor residue. No sticky feeling afterwards too. Kudos to UV Milk! The UV milk is not entirely odorless. It leaves a distinctive ‘plasticine’ smell upon application but the smell disappears after a couple of minutes. Most sunscreens clog pores. Since I have acne-prone skin, my skin usually breaks out after I apply SPF lotions. The UV milk is light and non-greasy, so this time there was no pimple attack after using the product. I also like the fact that it’s 3-in-1 as it makes my beauty routine much simpler. I usually apply tons of beauty products before I apply my make up such as toner, moisturizer, sunscreen and make up primer. These days, its only toner and Hada Labo’s SHA Moisturizing UV Milk! Sun Protection Factor (SPF) SPF 50 is pretty high for a make up base. With its high SPF, skin is now less susceptible to burns even after long hours in the sun! Beauty Tip… No matter how high the SPF is, sunscreen needs to be reapplied every two hours, or more frequently especially after swimming or heavy perspiration. To prevent burns, sunscreen alone is not enough. Seek shade whenever possible, and wear sun-protective clothing, broad-brimmed hats, and UV-blocking sunglasses. Overall… I thought it could be the top contender for sunscreens though I find it quite pricey for a drugstore sunscreen. It retails at Watsons at SGD19.90. Who says beauty can’t inspire? It just did! Recently, a male friend in his late 40s (also a Honeyz reader) told me that my beauty posts especially the nail ones inspired him to take care of his physical well-being. Baffled, I asked ‘How?’ Here’s his explanation. “I’m a traditional guy who never thought appearance can be THAT important nor can it affect impressions. However, I realized that I’ve been paying special attention to my appearance these days like making sure my tie does not go past the belt and the cut of my shirt accentuates my figure! It’s crazy! The posts especially this one made me realized that there are so many things we can do to liven up the look of our nails and take care of them. A set of well trimmed and healthy-looking nails does not only make one look glamorous and professional, it is also a good hygiene practice to maintain them. Darn! Before I dive into the details, I thought I could revisit Amethystory’s Star product – Mineral Aqua Gel and give you Honeyz belles a fresh appraisal. Why another review of the mineral aqua gel? Because I was doubtful about its ability to remove dead skin cells the last time. Here’s my impression of the gel the last time. “Well, I’m slightly skeptical about the dead skin cells part claimed by Ginvera. I have a hunch that it’s just chemistry working its magic. I may probably try it on other surfaces like walls or mirrors soon. To give it some credit, I did see facial hairs attached to the white flakes. I like that I can also use it on other areas of my body too, besides the face. (A Honeyz girl has to be more than just a pretty face! :P) I expected the formula to be thicker and was shocked to see that it oozes out like water. This means I’ll have to swiftly apply it to my face before it drips off my hands everytime I use it. Not a huge fan of that. I like the texture of this exfoliator as compared to normal scrubs with beads. It feels gentler on the skin. Even though the process of rinsing off the liquid and flakes was quite a chore, but the after-scrub feeling was great. The skin felt really clean, and it did not leave the tight feeling. In addition, my skin felt really smooth and refreshed! All in all, I think this exfoliator transcends many others in the market with its quality and affordability. So 4 Honeyz crowns!” To clear all doubts, I decided to do the following experiment as suggested in my last review – rub the gel on surfaces with no dead skin cells! And so I squirt some gel on the back of a ceramic plate. As you can see, no white flakes were formed. But it could still be due to chemistry working its magic or the lack of friction. So! I decided to try it on the driest part of my body – the soles of my feet, to test its hydration abilities. In particular, I wanted to know whether the product can successfully remove the stubborn dead skin cells and restore its moisture. Here goes! Original condition of sole Unsightly I know. Bear with me please! Pumped some gel on it. Spread and scrub… White flakes started to appear… The sole after using Amethystory’s mineral aqua gel Visibly, I would say there’s not much of a difference. However, the sole did feel smoother and softer after one use. So I reckon more uses will result in healthier-looking feet and give more renowned exfoliating gel products such as Odbo’s Peeling Gel and Cure’s Natural Aqua Gel a run for their money. Experiencing euphoria that is induced by Just Lovace’s latest maxi dress! Believe me, they brought a whole new meaning to bohemian glam with this pretty number. Photos below for proof! Material and workmanship is decent. Material is towards the thin side so seamless undergarments is recommended to avoid visible panty lines (vpl). The size runs slightly big. I’ve become a slave to fashion. Here’s why… I just came back from Kawaii Land – Japan and I’m utterly stoked about their winter-to-spring transitional fashion! Apparently, they always center around these key themes – cute, sweet and cutting-edge. As such, I became the Shopping Queen of Japan by grabbing every cute and colorful apparel off their (also) uber cute racks! Live like a rock star at Hard Rock Hotel Singapore! Two weeks ago, my family and I celebrated my granny’s birthday at Resorts World’s (RWS) Hard Rock Hotel Singapore. Here’s Granny – the rock chick. 😛 Aunt, Granny and me So why the Hard Rock Hotel? Recently, I’ve been lured into the world of heavy metal and hard rock by a special someone. You might be able to tell from the style of the recent photo shoots. I even attended a Judas Priest Concert! Pretty hard core eh? According to the RWS website, Hard Rock Hotel Singapore also received the Gold Award for: Best 5 in Asia in the Category of HAPA Signature Deluxe Hotel So of course the Hard Rock Hotel was my number one choice for a family staycation! The hotel provided a fun-filled and wonderful holiday for my family and me. Therefore, I decided to introduce this hotel to you in this review. (This is not an advertorial for the hotel.) BUT!!!! Let’s try something different in this edition of Honeyz Travel Review. 😛 We’ll pretend to be rock stars!! (Excited???) I’ll walk you rockers through Room 568 of Hard Rock Hotel and enter the world of retro, style, and glam rock. 🙂 And our rock star journey begins here… The lift lobby of celebrities Yay! Lift door opens… And we are welcomed by a cool retro-themed chill out spot. The corridor Divas of the 80s and 90s Diana Ross Noticed the ice dispenser room above? Yes. Complimentary ice is provided! How thoughtful. Arrived at our room. The first thing we need to do? Order room service. You must be hungry after a day of jamming. Gobble up these burgers!! FYI… The quality of the food was so-so. The beef patty was rather bland. The finger food felt more greasy than normal too. Overall, it did not leave a great impression on me. In case you’re interested in ordering room service too, each burger set is SGD 25++. Astronomical price for a burger I know. Rock stars, meet my cousin, Belynda – who took photos of me while I took photos of the food. -_- Alright rockers! Time for a room tour. Ambient lighting for more class and glamor! Jimi Hendrix Creepy lights of the dressing room by the bed side. The hotel also provided an iPod/iPhone Speaker Dock! Great for rock star chilled out moments. Other technological equipment and services… The room also comes with a Large LCD TV with 28 Channels including the Hard Rock Music Video Channel, History Channel, etc. There is no free wireless internet in the room. Free wireless high-speed broadband internet access is only available in the lobby. Separate charges apply for internet in the room. Don’t you just love the brightly colored neon furniture in the room? The breathtaking view from the room We look out over the sandy beach pool from our balcony. Now that’s what every rock star needs after a day of concerts and autograph signing for relaxation and serenity. The pool lights up in the evening. FYI… The pool closes at 8pm everyday. Check out a rock star’s must have! The vanity top! The bathroom was designed to look like the dressing room of a real rock star! This is my most favorite – guitar-shaped amenities holder. Too bad it’s not for sale. 🙁 The hotel also provides a nice face mirror for our rocker beauty fixes. It also comes with a weighing scale. (For the rock star always has to watch his/her weight?) Showcasing my rocking abilities! Born to rock!!! The shower Rain showers are the best to wash away the day’s sweat and fatigue! The bathroom provides shampoo and shower gel. I prefer this kind of floor drainage compared to the conventional ones as dirt is less visible. See this photo if you don’t understand what I meant. (See it only if you’re not the squeamish sort.) The hotel understood this need and provided a large closet which is accessible from the bathroom as well as the main room. I’ve been trying to master the art of sprezzatura when it comes to shopping, but the attempts failed terribly when I was introduced to Project Serenade ! Yes, I couldn’t contain my excitement anymore when the clothes are so trendy and affordable at up-and-coming fashion house – Project Serenade. Before I went to Hong Kong last week, the lovely owners of Project Serenade sent me their first exclusively manufactured Embrace Simplicity Scoop Neck top. It was inspired by this top from Zara. Speaking of Hong Kong, I just got back from Hong Kong Disneyland and I can’t wait to share the travel review with you! Before I do that, I thought I could share glimpses of the theme park’s hotels with this edition of Honeyz Fashion Review. So here goes! This edition’s style limelight – Project Serenade Embrace Simplicity Scoop Neck Top (Royal Purple) As seen on Project Serenade Honeyz’s rendition As promised earlier, here’s Honeyz Fashion Review: Project Serenade in Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Hollywood Hotel Afterthoughts… I think the top definitely pushes the boundaries of blogshop style with its cute sleeves, eye popping color and comfortability factor. I know that the fabric is made of textured chiffon blend but I thought it looks like satin in photos since it reflects light in them. The material feels thin, soft and light but rest assured that it is not sheer at all. The neckline is rather big for me so I recommend the use of fashion tapes or tube tops to prevent any wardrobe malfunction. Workmanship is so-so, no loose threads but I thought the edges could be more aligned. All in all, I like that the design is simple enough to go with any accessory and bottom and it can be dressed up or down to suit any occasion. 4 Honeyz crowns!
