From pining and whining to wining and dining 🥂 After a gazillion years of talking about the ultimate vacation dreamland, Maldives, I can finally tick you off my bucket list! Woo hoo! We looked at several resorts on Trip Advisor and were totally wooed by Shangri-La’s acres of secluded palm-fringed beaches and luxurious water villas, especially those excitement-inducing hammocks that hang over the lagoon. The idyllic resort definitely lived up to its name! So we waited no further and booked our tickets. Once the deal was sealed, all that was left was to sit back and boogaaay! Haha! Ready for some vacation dreaming too? Grab your champagne and join us on a scenic tour of this breathtaking resort! Journey To The South Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort and Spa is the only Maldivian resort located south of the equator, giving you undivided and unblocked access to its gorgeous emerald green jungles and miles of turquoise waters. Talk about having a world of your own. But who says that a trip to paradise is ever easy? Getting to the resort was quite an experience as we travel through land, air and sea. We arrived at Male International Airport after a 5 hour flight via TigerAir. Once we were cleared up at the Immigration Counter, we were warmly received by one of Shangri-la’s Airport Representatives who assisted us with our luggage and escorted us to the Domestic Terminal for our flight to Gan. Since it was a 3-hour wait before the flight, we were treated to a sumptuous buffet as well as some very delicious beverages in the airport’s Executive Lounge. Then we were whisked off to paradise! Okay. Not quite. We arrived at Gan International Airport after another 70-minute flight and then, we were finally on our way to Shangri-la’s exclusive island haven through a five-minute boat ride. Welcome to the ultimate ‘Heaven on Earth’! The Bathroom Double vanities are always a good idea! The resort even equipped one of the vanity areas with a beauty-buff-approved lighted makeup mirror, body lotion and some beauty necessities for both the belles and the beaus. The more masculine vanity area was kept rather simple with just hand soap and towels. Maybe that’s because they know most guys only care about the tub? Haha! Outdoor Shower The Closet The Pantry The Bedroom Knowing we were there for both our honeymoon and Bobby’s birthday, the hotel kindly decorated the bed with these roses and a birthday message jiving both occasions nicely. Our little oasis getaway just kept getting better! Thank you Shangri-la! The Deck Bobo looks excited! Whee! It’s snorkelling time! Say cheese! *choke choke* Now let’s enjoy the sunset! Food and Entertainment We decided to stay in on our second day and ordered a delectable room service spread comprised of burgers and traditional Maldivian cuisine. Yum! Breakfast at Javvu Dance on the beach like no one’s watching! (This should be my daily agenda. :P) And it was finally time to leave and our tranquil holiday home decided to bid us goodbye with this lovely rainbow. Aww… See it in action! Our #Honeyzmoon After the love hate relationship that is planning a wedding, we definitely needed a break to sit back and kind of soak in the fact that we were now married and embarking on this new chapter in life together. We were torn, however, should we do our home renovation first, get our castle looking ship shape and then plan a honeymoon or just bite the bullet and dive into a sun-kissed honeymoon. We chose the latter option and my goodness, it was one of the best decisions we could have ever made and Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort was the icing on the cake. People use the term ‘dream honeymoon location’ way too much, but this place really was! Every day felt like waking up in a dream or inside a screensaver, never have I seen such natural breathtaking beauty all around. All the pictures and prose will never do justice to just how breathtaking an experience it was. The service of the staff made us feel like royalty, with our very own twenty-four hour assigned assistant, we were in the best of hands, whether it was to order room service, ice or just ask for snorkelling recommendations, our concierge was always there to greet us with a big sunny smile. Everything was, for the lack of a better word, perfect! Looking back, I’m so glad we actually had a honeymoon. It’s so easy to get caught up in life and put things off until tomorrow, but I’m pretty sure if we hadn’t done it this way, after buying our home, settling our renovation and furthering my business, I would have probably ended up never having a honeymoon. If you’re having the same quandary now, let me help you! Do it, take a honeymoon, you won’t regret it! With the pandemic still looming in the corner, it has made it extra challenging these days to recreate my favourite Disney moments (in the great wide somewhere) like yesteryears. So!!! I decided to revisit some of my Disney-inspired shoots that were posted on Instagram but never on this blog and share them with you on this space too. First up! We have this series inspired by the relaunch of my childhood favourite, Disney’s The Lion King (2019) which had me awash with emotion at the time. 🥲 These shots were all taken in a field near my husband, Bobby's childhood home in Hull. We counted our lucky stars when we discovered this bamboo and wooden backdrop just nearby that totally screams The Lion King! To prep for my feisty get-up worthy of the pride, my stylists at Shunji Matsuo added some fire to my roar with these sunset red tresses and embellished the look further with these green highlights to represent Timon and Pumbaa’s leafy paradise. I remember so many iconic moments like when the wise old Rafiki lifted young Simba into the air or when Rafiki fixed the cave painting upon Simba’s return! So it should come as no surprise that my custom nail job is none other than an homage to these iconic scenes beautifully nestled in a chic look suitable for any occasion! Grogu! What did I tell you about frogs! This is definitely NOT the way. 🐸 Hehe! Happy Star Wars Day, belles and beaus ! I’m officially going to the dork side of the force by bingeing Star Wars movies all day today on Disney Plus (Disney+)! When Disney+ finally arrived on our sunny shores, I literally jumped for joy! I couldn’t wait to revisit old faves such as Beauty and The Beast and discover new gems such as the live action remake of Lady and The Tramp (worth the price of subscription alone)! While browsing for the next binge-worthy show, one title that kept reappearing was The Mandalorian, set in the Star Wars universe. Now while I’ve enjoyed a lot of the classic Star Wars movies, a fan of the late great Princess Leia, both on and off the screen, Star Wars is not something that I find myself immediately drawn to. I finished Wanda Vision, finished Falcon and The Winter Soldier, revisited a few Disney classics and thought, okay, let’s see what this Mandalorian thing is about... Famous last words.. I’m literally addicted! I binge-watched all two seasons in a matter of days and while the title character is cool, it’s his little friend that caught my eye and quite literally captured my heart! Introducing The Child (or incorrectly Baby Yoda)! With every coo, smile and gesture, I found myself falling more and more in love with this little fellow! I even signed up to a Facebook fan-page where people just spend the whole day sharing memes featuring him! Dank farrik! The series is great, following the adventures of a hardened Mandalorian bounty hunter, Din Djarin, protecting ‘The Child’ from all manner of bad guys from all over the galaxy, a very classy and cool homage to Japanese classics like Lone Wolf and Cub (Shogun Assassin)! ‘The Child’ or Grogu clearly stole the show for me and on hectic days, I even find myself watching clips of this little bundle of adorable joy to cheer myself up! Totally inspired and surprisingly drawn into the Star Wars universe, I simply had to do a themed photoshoot (come on, you should expect it of me by now). 🙈 I managed to dig out this absolutely perfect ensemble from Joop Boutique to recreate the perfect outfit and Star Wars visual aesthetic but how would I recreate my little friend? All the images of ‘The Child’ I could find online fell short of the mark but little did I know, hubby had been silently taking note of my intergalactic search and my mind was blown when this little fellow showed up at our doorstep just in time for my birthday and this photoshoot! Awww!!!! Happy Christmas month! I don’t even know where to start. It was meant to be a month of hot cocoas, endless turkey spreads and Christmas movies but my father-in-law fell sick and things took a critical turn earlier this month and now my husband, Bobby is back in the UK to spend more time with my in-laws. I’d love to boldly claim that I’ve been living my life fearlessly, that as women we can do anything we put our minds to, but as I wandered down memory lane, it dawned on me that more often than not, the opposite was true! As a woman, I’ve actually been living very FEARFULLY! Growing up my father was very strict, there were lots of rules and expectations, I even had a curfew by which to come home, something my younger brother didn’t! I would genuinely be worried that something might happen if I stayed out too late and that my dad would be angry. I know now that a lot of it was just gusto and that behind that bushy moustache and big bellied laugh is the best daddy trying to look out for me, but back then little old me couldn’t help but wonder if it wasn’t safe for girls to be out late. When I became an adult, I was still fearful but for different reasons. Even when I was in a senior managerial position, out with my male colleagues, I was frequently mistaken for being my colleague's secretary or subordinate. I lost count of the number of times I was asked by clients to leave meetings and fetch coffee. Out of fear and not wanting to look arrogant, I found myself often not speaking up even when our male secretaries were there. Fast forward a decade, running RESCU , very little has changed. I've been asked many times how it feels working for my husband? Oh gosh! We work together, I run the business while Bobby does the clinical stuff. Bobby knows as much about web design, marketing, accounts and finances as I do about managing a pneumothorax! That’s how our skills complement one another! Recently even close family members suggested that Bobby should hire another assistant and just let me stay at home so I can become a mother. What made them think I’m just an assistant or that I want to be a stay home mother? Friends and family see our website and assume a man wearing a stethoscope is a doctor while a woman wearing a stethoscope must be a nurse, why? Bobby has encouraged me many times to correct them and I was again too afraid of offending people to speak up! It’s been an eye opening introspection indeed! The funny thing is that a lot of these remarks are from fellow women! But enough is enough, no more living life in fear! These days, I remind myself that I'm as good as our male counterparts and have the results to prove it!
