I always appreciate beauty brands that go the extra mile to ensure the freshness of their products. Of course, the second thing that caught my attention was the aromatic rose fragrance. Take a deep whiff and you’ll feel instantly calm and relaxed too. Since the toner does not contain alcohol, it does not leave a squeaky clean effect on the skin. In fact, the product feels a little more viscous than normal causing the skin to feel slightly tacky to the touch during the first few minutes of application. Toners are meant to balance your skin’s pH levels and act as an astringent to minimise the appearance of your pores. Honestly, I don’t have have sufficient info to prove that the ingredients in this product will balance your pH levels. In fact, skin should be able to balance itself out so that’s not an issue. Also, since the product does not contain alcohol, it’s is definitely not acting as an astringent here. However, I like that the toner contains a beneficial array of skin-reparative and moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin, sodium hyaluronate and even snail secretion filtrates. So if you’re looking to amp up the moisturising factor of your skincare regimen, this is still a great product to add to your beauty stash. 3.5 Honeyz crowns! Its consistency is also a lot thicker than the toner’s as you can tell from the photo below. Even though the essence is essentially a more watered-down serum, it still feels pretty concentrated and rich. My skin felt greasy immediately after application. However, the feeling lasted only seconds as the greasiness was quickly replaced by a smooth finish after a few gentle rubs. Just a few drops each time and my skin stays hydrated all day. I also use this on my neck to reduce the tight feeling on my skin after showers. 4 Honeyz crowns! Imagine my confusion when I saw the actual toner in the packaging. So what is this? After reading the label, I realised it’s simply a moisturiser. (Oh yeah! Long before the Japanese referred their toners as lotions, lotions were actually moisturisers.) The texture of the lotion is significantly thicker. Despite its higher viscosity, the product was absorbed by my skin pretty quickly, leaving behind a nice smooth sheen. Long lasting hydrating properties should be non-negotiable in a lotion and since the product delivered just that, I give it a huge thumbs up! My only gripe is the absence of a pump feature to dispense the product. This is what happens when I try to draw the lotion from the tiny opening of the bottle everytime. Besides the lack of pumping mechanism, the lotion works pretty well for me. Here’s a quick comparison of my face before and after using the Real Rose products. I thought the redness on my face is less noticeable now and my skin also looks more taut and supple. Now that’s what I call putting the roses back in your cheeks. 😛 3.5 Honeyz crowns! Beautiful hair, impeccable makeup and heavenly ballgowns are indisputably hallmarks of a Disney princess! Hmm… Seems like I got everything covered for the wedding. *happy dance* Oh wait? I think I forgot something. Aww… I sure did. Every Disney princess also has a lovely set of pearly white teeth to mesmerise their Prince Charming. If you’re a fellow city-dweller, you probably would find this all too familiar in the mornings – the alarm clock screaming in the middle of your sweetest dreams resulting in you waking up in shock and jumping out of bed to get ready while still feeling rather asleep. Come on! Who brushes their teeth with their eyes closed too? Then to fight off that doziness, you gulp down a soothing fragrant cup of coffee – EVERY weekday morning. And the ramification of that? Not only do you feel more alert, you’re also one step closer to looking like the Wicked Witch of the West instead. Gulp! So to make sure my bridal beauty routine did not go down in flames, I decided to seek the help of my dental Godmother,  Theresa Beauty , to help with the teeth discolouration problem. And guess what? In the space of just a few weeks, the change was remarkable! Hubby and I felt our gnashers could even be worthy of Colgate’s next toothpaste ad. Haha! Psst! You’ll be happy to know that there was no bleaching or abrasive ingredients involved in the treatments. Seeking a dazzling white smile too? Then you’ll have to read on! Upon arrival, we were greeted with a warm welcome by Sandra of Theresa Beauty who took care of all our treatments for the day. Our warm welcome included a nice cup of tea before all the magic began. Whoopee! Every treatment is preceded by a consultation session to evaluate the current state of your teeth and also to explain the procedures of the treatment. The Consultation Room Our tooth shade was measured based on this teeth color chart. According to Sandra, besides food and drinks that are high in tannins, aging can also cause teeth to yellow. As we age, the outer layer of enamel on your teeth gets thinner due to wear and tear which eventually unveils the natural yellow colour of dentin. And of course, other factors that affect the color of our teeth includes smoking, genetics as well as poor dental hygiene. Now, let’s assess our dental situation. 😛 My teeth was a Shade 14 before the treatment. While B’s at Shade 30 due to his uncontrollable love for Coke Zero. Tsk tsk! For best results, we were told we need to ‘start with a clean slate’. So we were given these cleaning wipes to remove all the gunk on the surface of our teeth. We were also given these cool safety glasses to protect our eyes from the light beams of the LED treatment later. Guess our new sci-fi hero! 😛 Cyclops of X- Men 😛 Thereafter, we were introduced to these tools to kick off our treatments of the day. 🙂 Sandra squirted the whitening gel, that was specially formulated by Theresa Beauty, on the mouthpiece before placing them in our mouths. And we went from looking like superheroes to the Titans from Attack on Titan. Haha! To be honest, I wasn’t the most comfortable due to a painful teeth whitening experience at another beauty salon several years back that left me wary of harsh chemical whitening treatments. Sandra assured me that the treatment would not trigger the same side effects I experienced before as Theresa Beauty’s whitening gel does not contain harsh ingredients such as hydrogen peroxide. In fact, its imbued with natural ingredients such as sodium bicarbonate (aka baking soda) which is also its key whitening agent. Besides removing stains, the gel can also neutralize and counteract bacterial acids in the mouth too. Yay! However, no man is an island. The gel needs to work in tandem with Theresa Beauty’s latest Light-Emitting Diode (LED) technology in order to react with the enamel, penetrate the pores and break down the discolouration molecules in the teeth. Hence, the next step was to place this LED device a few centimetres away from our teeth for 30 minutes. The blue beam would activate the properties of the gel and allow it to perform its task more effectively. And now we wait. 🙂 It was a rather comfortable process as you can probably tell from the photo above. I was falling asleep! The only thing I felt was the warm sensation from the light source. Okay, there was one thing that I didn’t exactly enjoy – the saliva gathering at my mouth throughout the treatment. The staff at Theresa Beauty assured me that it was perfectly fine to swallow my saliva but since I didn’t really like the idea of ingesting the whitening gel, I allowed it to accumulate in my mouth. Eek! To make sure I don’t stay uncomfortable for too long, our thoughtful therapists were already on standby with water and a tray, minutes before the treatment alarm on the LED device went off to allow me to discard the saliva immediately. And then, we were done! Well, I guess it was all worth it as my teeth was visibly four shades lighter after the 30 minutes treatment. And so had B’s. We were still five weeks away from our wedding so Sandra suggested that we come back for another treatment in four weeks to improve the treatment results further. And we did and guess what? My teeth is now at Shade 8. Whee! And B’s at Shade 16 – a whopping 14 shades lighter! After the treatment, the kind folks at Theresa Beauty not only gave us a complete teeth whitening home kit, they also conveyed their well wishes for our wedding with this cute flower and a beautifully handwritten greeting card. I applied my foundation with Enprani Face Designer Auto Pat on the right side of my face and with my fingers on my left. Usually, my foundation will start streaking after a couple of hours but the good set has prevented my foundation from sliding too early by blending it evenly onto my skin. As a new season approaches, I put away last season’s favorites to make way for new fashion delights for my already exploding wardrobe. And this applies to my trusty Macbook too. Hey MB, check out your new clothes! My laptop (MacBook Pro 13″) is my bestest friend. My entire life practically depends on it, from work, to surf and play, to shopping and most importantly to Facebooking! So I make sure I give my best friend the best by giving ‘her’ (yes, it’s a she) the most fashionable protection. Haha! A few months ago, I was shopping in Harajuku, Tokyo when I spotted a sleek white building with the logo ‘Marc by Marc Jacobs’ on it. I squealed before dashing into this five year old store of the global fashion brand. Here’s a brief history of Marc by Marc Jacobs (MBMJ). Introduced in the spring of 2001, Marc by Marc Jacobs is the diffusion line of Marc Jacobs that produces avant-garde fashion designs that retail at lower pricelines. And it was there that I spotted this nifty laptop bag at 13,000 Yen (SGD207) from their Spring-Summer 2012 collection. So I swiftly brought it home! Please allow me to walk you through its cool features. The nylon laptop case is stylishly decorated with Marc Jacobs signature quilting and riveted with an exquisite heritage logo plate. The laptop bag came with a soft and lightweight dust bag as shown below. Even though its zipper is not the smoothest I’ve tried, its edgy design still wins me over. There are two ways to wear the bag. You can either hold the fabric handles or use the detachable and adjustable crossbody strap. The fabric strap drop length is 5”. The length of the shoulder strap drop is 11″ to 22″. This is how the bag looks like on my 161cm (approximately 5’3 feet) frame. Back to the features… I like that the stylish harness clip does not require a lot of force to put on and take off which made it very nail-friendly. The bag also came with a foam pad to maintain the shape of the bag. The interior of the computer case is my most favorite feature. It is lined with faux fur and protective microfiber that is very comfortable to touch. 🙂 The dimensions of the bag are 13″W x 10″H x 2″D so my 13” Macbook fits snugly inside the bag. Besides the Macbook, I reckon most 13-inch laptops will also fit comfortably. I found this photo rather hoodwinking as the bag can definitely contain more than a Macbook. I’d stuffed it with one magazine, one Macbook, one external hard disk and an Apple magic mouse and I could still zip the bag with ease. 🙂 However, to ensure a longer lifespan of the bag, I don’t encourage you to do this often. 😛 The bag provides a convenient exterior velcro pocket for my mouse, gadgets and paraphernalia. Frankly, this was a rather impulsive buy. Before this purchase, my Macbook was already comfortably dressed in Fabrix , but I couldn’t resist the colorful bright prints and the cool logo plaque of this MBMJ bag. The sewing and seams were reasonably well-constructed. Only one loose thread spotted. The only drawback is the fact that the fabric is prone to dirt. Otherwise, I think it was totally worth purging my Fabrix case for this Marc Jacobs darling. Psst! I checked out the MBMJ store at Takashimaya recently and a MBMJ sales assistant told me that the bag was sold within a few weeks of launch. But don’t fret. I spotted other Tapioca Multi cosmetic cases and handbags. MBMJ has also launched more laptop bags for their fall collection, albeit with the same specifications as the Tapioca Multi, they looked edgier and classier. You can check them out here . It is a bright Friday afternoon and to make it even brighter… I’m on my way to My Little Nail Space at Whampoa West for a nails revamp! I’m not familiar with Whampoa area so not surprisingly, I felt lost the moment my train arrived at Boon Keng MRT. Whipped out my phone for directions. Haha! I felt like a celebrity! I entered their premises and was immediately overwhelmed by the hundreds of nail polish colors at their reception. I’m super into interior design right now, and I’m all for Edwardian decor and intricate Victorian details. So I can’t help but notice that they did not use the traditional chandelier for their Edwardian theme. Instead, they opted for a planet-like lamp as the room’s centerpiece. Very creative. The overall look was refreshing and very welcoming. Then I was promptly ushered to my seat for my nail treatment. I sat beside Samantha (a regular Nail Space customer) whom I thought had a really nice pair of legs and a set of gorgeous toe nails. Don’t get me wrong. I do not have a feet fetish. But she did have nice toes and nails. See for yourself! At this juncture, I noticed that the Nail Space nail technician was decorating Samantha’s toe nails with beautifully drawn flowers. She was like a Nail Picasso! Check out the “canvas”! No photos of Samantha as she was very shy so more photos of her tootsies and nails! The final product! Incredible skills. Now you know where to go for hand drawn nail art! Nail Space has many nail art catalogues like the one shown below and I was asked to choose my favorite nail design from one of them. While I was trying to rack my brains to decide the design I want, I noticed Jean’s gorgeous french jeweled nails. And I immediately made my decision. 🙂 Now let’s get down to work! Winnie (my nail magician for the afternoon) carefully removed my ‘pink and pearls’. Winnie applied acetone on my nails with a cotton pad then wrapped my fingers with tin foil. Alien fingers! Cut, file, buff! Nail and Hand Harmony’s Gelish ‘Black Shadow’ was used for the tip. Then my nails were sent to the LED Lamp (aka oven) for curing. This will dry the gel polish within seconds without smudging. Winnie added gelish color ‘Water Field’ for the glittery effect. Winnie thought my nails weren’t glittery enough so she went all out and sprinkled bigger glitters for a disco ball effect. And after some curing… Tadah! Winnie was such a perfectionist. During the filing and trimming, she made sure that every detail was taken care of – cuticles were pushed back, peeling skin were removed and nails tips were shaped neatly. She also applied several coats of polish to ensure a long lasting finish. Even though the session took longer than usual, I was thankful that nothing was overlooked as my nails looked perfect afterwards! Afterthoughts… I always had the impression that black polish is a nail fashion faux pas. Somehow, I thought they might make nails appear shorter and stouter or look too spunky on our dainty fingers. Well, I guess I was wrong. Black nail polish can create more flattering proportions. My nails did not look shorter, instead they looked elegantly longer.
