Christmas to me kinda feels like it’s suddenly everyone’s birthday on the same day and we all get to celebrate together in a lovely huge ball of fuzzy goodness. ‘Tis definitely the season to be jolly, ‘tis the season to shop till you drop and for a whole lot of us, ‘tis the season to travel and be merry! As much as I’m looking forward to a white Christmas in Korea, I’m dreading the inevitable rush to the airport, lugging my luggage around, the unsleepably crammed quarters on the plane and of course the mandatory aches and pains. Don’t you just wish every plane seat was one of those sumptuously cozy massage chairs? I love Chinese New Year, the family time, the food, the memories! With each year I find myself becoming more and more nostalgic, holding on to traditions from my childhood while creating new ones. Fine, I’ll admit it’s not all a bed of roses though. If anyone has ever experienced an annual review and appraisal at work, CNY can be something like that! So what have you achieved over this last year? Where are you working now? Children on the way??? And you bet as a beauty blogger – if my skin is anything less than flawless, I’ve had it! Eek! So no pressure! With so many deadlines, shoots and engagements every day, not only did I need to find time to squeeze in a pre-CNY facial but I needed to find one with the least possible downtime so I can keep to my busy schedule. Just when I thought I was hoping for the impossible, I received a glowing invitation from SOTHYS for the opening of their first Premium Salon in Singapore. Little did I know, but this would turn out to be just the impossible I’d been hoping for. I’ll admit, I didn’t know a great deal about SOTHYS so the opening was quite an eye opener. The French professional skincare brand has been leading the way since 1946 with a focus on non-invasive, high efficacy treatments and products. SOTHYS even pioneered the use of medical ampoules for their beauty products, and thus the beauty ampoule as we know it was born! With my interest piqued, I explored the newly minted premises. A welcoming open reception area invites you in while also showcasing some of SOTHYS’ top products. The Entrance It was a nice sizzling afternoon of mindless laughter with the beauty experts of SOTHYS Singapore and fellow social media personnel. We also got to savour a delectable buffet spread during the event. Yum! The Reception Behind the reception area are the ultra chic treatment suites of which there are only two. Yet again highlighting SOTHYS’ emphasis on quality over quantity. The other guests at the opening were much more familiar with SOTHYS than myself and they all had one view in common, the facials offered by SOTHYS are some of the best with the least post-treatment redness and downtime. So when I was invited back for a treatment, you bet I jumped for joy! Coming back to the salon, I was taken aback by the calming ambience carefully curated by SOTHYS. It was the perfect intro for a session of pampering. I was welcomed by Clara, SOTHYS Singapore’s first Golden Badge holder. Having breakthrough products is only one part of the SOTHYS ethos, all their therapists must also meet the stringent criteria set by SOTHYS. To become a SOTHYS Golden Badge holder, you have to score over 80% in annual assessments and undergo regular audits to ensure the standard is always maintained. Talk about meticulous! After a consultation with Clara, I was introduced to the HYDRA3HA Intensive treatment, a special concoction containing different molecular weight variations of Hyaluronic Acid and their patented1055 Boletus Extract for a level of moisturization that would normally require multiple treatments with traditional masks and serums. But first, relax! Before the treatment began, I was given a relaxing foot spa while I enjoyed the calming sounds and smells of the treatment suite. The ambience is one of pure bliss I tell you! Then I changed into their treatment attire for a back massage before we start working on my face! I’m loving it here already! Now I was finally ready for the facial treatment to begin. The treatment consisted of several phases starting with exfoliation through a deep cleansing routine. Then restructuring the skin with a nourishing serum, followed by a gentle face massage to make sure all the products were absorbed more quickly and efficiently. After the restructuring phase, we move on to the rehydration phase where we supplement the skin with lots of moisture by applying an Intense Hydration Gel Mask. Once that’s taken care of, we regenerate the skin with SOTHYS patented 1055 Boletus Extract and Hyaluronic Acid Modelling Mask, plumping up with a special mask fortified with Argan Oil (rich in Vitamin E) and the final infusion phase, administering the ultimate dose of hyaluronic acid with the Peel-Off Plumping Mask leaving the skin feeling soft and supple. Then completing the facial with Hydra3Ha Intensive serum and cream. Yeap! You read me right! Three facial masks in all! Unlike other treatments I’ve been to, Clara stayed for the entire duration of the treatment providing useful health and beauty insights whilst also administering special massage techniques to ensure my Zen-like relaxation was never broken. So what is the final verdict? Was it as pain free, void of post treatment red marks and downtime as many had claimed? Well, it seems there is no getting away from the discomfort of extraction, but after that step, it really was a great experience. The products were all manually massaged into my skin instead of with abrasive machines like a lot of salons use and the post treatment redness really was very very low. Here are my before and after shots for your verdict! There was so little visible redness that when I met my hubby later he had no idea I’d even gone for a facial! The icing on the cake was also the salon’s prime location, which meant I could go straight from salon to restaurant for dinner right next door, while the unique treatment meant I didn’t have to worry about scaring people away with my raw treated visage like I usually do after a facial. In a twinkle of an eye, all the lunar festivities are ‘almost’ over. Well technically, tomorrow is the last day. 😛 It was really nice catching up with everyone and of course, indulging in the sumptuous gourmet spread every time we visit a relative’s home. So this CNY, I decided to skip around the island, exploring true heartland areas, from our imperial styled Chinese Garden to our ubiquitous yet extremely iconic HDB neighbourhoods in my festive coordinates. The best eraser in the world is a good night’s sleep. I’m so excited today! We just got the go-ahead from the Ministry Of Health to launch our mobile clinic concept! And the icing on the cake? They’ll also be supporting us with new IT equipment and stationery for us to use on the go. I can’t believe this is actually happening right now as just a year ago, everything seemed bleak. Approvals were being delayed indefinitely and our concept looked like it was leaning towards a major rejection. As you can imagine, the effects of the uncertainty and tension began to trickle down to my lifestyle and beauty routine. I couldn’t sleep well at night. To add insult to injury, zits and spots also came knocking on my proverbial door like an old friend. It was nasty! I had to up the ante and introduce new habits and supplements to help me sleep better. Yeap! No one ever said pursuing your dream is a walk in the park! 🙁 After a few adjustments, I managed to maintain a rather healthy routine and keep the pimples at bay, even before we received the approval. So today, I thought I could also share how I adjusted my night time routine to allow myself to have a better night’s sleep and clearer skin the next morning. Hope this will help you too! “Read a book” To get my mind off work, I usually read before I go to bed. Reading helps to bring me out of the zone and into the realm of the author’s world. I usually read novels or just coffee table books for content inspiration for the blog or Instagram. I avoid my usual business self-help books to prevent myself from brainstorming ideas before sleeping. Remember, you’re supposed to wind down at this time! Oh and reading your Facebook feed doesn’t count. According to sleep.org, the blue light emitted by screens on cell phones, computers, tablets, and televisions restrain the production of melatonin, the hormone that controls your sleep/wake cycle or circadian rhythm. To make sure technology isn’t harming your journey to slumberland, give yourself at least 30 to 45 minutes of gadget-free transition time before hitting the hay. If you really have to check your emails one last time before bed, I recommend wearing computer glasses to reduce harmful blue light and eye strain. My go-to is  ENERGEYES’ Anti-Fatigue Computer Glasses for late night internet surfing. “The Mandatory Nightcap” Every night, I need a beverage before I go to sleep. I used to indulge in a glass of wine as I believed that alcohol helps me sleep better. However, there is new research to show that even though alcohol makes you drowsy, it reduces rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. According to this article on WebMD, REM sleep happens about 90 minutes after we fall asleep. It’s the stage of sleep when people dream, and it’s thought to be restorative. Disruptions in REM sleep may cause daytime drowsiness, poor concentration, and rob you of needed ZZZs. Overall, not a great idea. Here’s my new sleepy beverage! Following through with these steps have helped keep me productive everyday. Couple that with regular exercise and a healthful diet in the day time, I managed to maintain a glowy complexion (well almost) everyday and prevent myself from falling sick too often. However, I also believe we shouldn’t be too restrictive in our lifestyle as it may result in temptation indulgence. So occasionally I still give in to the snack attack! 😛 And finally, when all these quintessential daily habits align, I get the best of every day! When Sudio, a Swedish brand specializing in personal soundpieces approached me, I was taken aback by their obvious commitment to producing products that look as good as they sound. The headphones came with a very cool white storage pouch with rose gold trim matching the control buttons and trim on the headphones. After just a quick charge of 10 minutes, they were already ready for use and pairing with my iPhone was a cinch. The Sudio Tre model features a soft gel hook which curls into the concha groove of your outer ear to ensure they stay where they’re meant to, ideal for sports and activities. I decided to give them the ultimate test during the most grueling of physical activities, that’s right! Household chores! With vacuum cleaner in hand, I set to work. Last year I had a lot of fun looking at OSIM’s Christmas delights and many of their relaxing pampering goodies have become favorites in our household. Anytime I feel the neck tightness mounting from hours of sitting in front of the laptop, instead of popping a pill I can now pop on the uScalp to massage away that tension. Perfect! So it was with considerable enthusiasm that I attended OSIM’s latest product launch event for the remarkable OSIM uLove 2 (4手天王) massage chair. I knew we would be in for a treat, but the evening OSIM had prepared for us completely blew away my expectations! Being a local brand, it made sense that OSIM welcomed us with a spread of delectable goodies from other local brands. Hubby was enjoying himself munching on moreish Laksa and Cereal Prawn flavored cookies by Old Seng Choong while I enjoyed sipping on some delicately scented TWG teas and canapés. OSIM had set up two themed zones for us to enjoy before the event began proper. In the Lifestyle Zone, I enjoyed some blissful hand massages with products from Sabon and experimented with scents to create the perfect fragrance for my home courtesy of Oo La Lab. If only chemistry classes in school were this enjoyable! Finally in the Experience Zone, I came face to face with the star of the show, the OSIM uLove 2 massage chair! I was immediately struck by the lovely hand crafted peony flower design on the body of the chair that would surely look gorgeous in any home! For OSIM, however, this was just the start of the evening! Things were about to really take off! With my favorite gal Cindy , I was escorted to a check-in counter and issued a boarding pass for a first class flight onboard ‘OSIM Airlines’. You heard right, OSIM Airlines! This wasn’t a real flight of course, but a fabulously lavish setup to allow us to really experience the first class luxury the OSIM uLove 2 can offer. After check-in, we were each greeted by our very own personal flight attendant who would be taking care of us for the entire duration of the flight. I’m pictured here with Helen, my chaperone for the night. After a brief wait in OSIM’s VIP first class lounge, we were ready to board our flight! We were all awed by the attention to detail as we found ourselves walking through rows of chairs akin to a real flight, albeit a lot more luxurious. Think spa in the sky and you’ll be on the right track. My personal flight attendant, Helen, guided me to my seat, which of course happened to be the super luxurious OSIM uLove 2 massage chair, and after an announcement from our pilot, the flight to OSIM Paradise was ready to take off! Woohoooo!! Helen made sure my every need was meticulously attended to, ensuring I was just the right temperature, that I was comfortable and I could hear quiet muffled whispers all around me, the sounds of other flight attendants taking care of their guests. As I sank into the plush quilted leather of the OSIM uLove 2 massage chair, I was encapsulated in soothing ambient background music while a heated sleeping eye mask soothed my strained peepers. This flight into nirvana was really taking off! Now this chair is one smart cookie, rather than just subject me to a standard massage for all, it actually started to calibrate itself to my body by detecting the position of my shoulders and joints to ensure the massage would be perfectly tuned to my body. As the massage started, I could immediately feel the tension being eased out of my stiff joints. After a visit to the hair salon earlier in the day, I had been nursing a seriously stiff neck and could feel a migraine creeping up on me. I need not have worried though, as the OSIM uLove 2 did its magic, I could really feel my stiff neck dissolve away. I was in heaven! The massage felt very different to anything I had experienced on previous massage chairs, applying pressure to multiple different areas, it felt a lot more comprehensive and also a lot more like what you might come to expect from a professional masseuse. I also came to realize that this was not just a massage chair but more like an all-in-one relaxation and personal entertainment center. With speakers embedded into the sofa on either side of your head, you can enjoy wireless Bluetooth 3D music from your phone or even enjoy your favorite movies with cinema like surround sound, while an entertainment stand holds your phone or tablet so you don’t have to. You can even use the OSIM uLove 2 app to control the massage settings, sync new massage programs and download music tailored to complement your relaxing massage session. Of course no flight would be complete without in-flight dining. Our courteous and attentive personal flight attendants served us some fine refreshments to leave no first class stone unturned on this journey to OSIM Paradise! Alas, all good things must come to an end. As the flight touched down I felt refreshed and invigorated, something I’ve never felt coming out of a real flight. In true jet-setter style, the pilot announced our safe arrival at our exotic paradise destination with local time and outside temperature before we disembarked the flight! It was so real I was worried I was going to be asked to fill in an immigration form before leaving the plane! 😛 I might have been wondering whether an OSIM uLove2 was worth it before the flight, but after the event, all I could think of was where in my house it should go!
