I had a fashion epiphany… I’ll explain why later. First, take a look at the second installment of Honeyz Fashion Review: Hello Blogshop – Blue Scallop Top Afterthoughts… I’m never a fan of loose-fitting clothes. I always thought they make one look sloppy and ‘less endowed’. So when I first saw this in the package from Hello Blogshop , I was a tad disappointed and worried that I’ll not be able to pull this off. To top it off, the material felt really thin (Almost like paper. No kidding.) so I was afraid that it would be sheer under the sunlight. All the uncertainties vanished when I tried this on. It was extremely comfortable because of its thinness. It was not sheer at all and its material was actually very durable. To add a feather to the top’s hat, it was easy to pair it with almost any clothing – jeans, skirts, shorts, etc. It produced different looks with different combinations. Well, that was the fashion epiphany. I finally realized how stylish one can look even when the outfit does not flatter your figure. 🙂 Gonna stock up on loose fitting clothing in my wardrobe. Alright, here’s the downside. The sides are too large for my liking. I’m not comfortable with revealing too much skin at the sides, so I’ll always wear this with a tube top. The tag of the dress indicated that it is made in Korea. I like Korean apparels as their quality is usually top-notch despite the low price tags. The fabric feels thick and warm. The warmth of the fabric might be uncomfortable for some in this humid weather but the quality of the fabric transcends this small bit of a downer. Workmanship of the dress is also pretty good. The length and size of the dress also fits my frame perfectly. The dress comes with double zippers. It has a zipper on the side and another one at the back of the dress. I’m not sure what’s the purpose of this double zipper idea but I’m never a fan of back zippers so the side one is a bonus for me. For all these great qualities, this dress deserves 4.5 Honeyz crowns! Alright, enough of the blabbering and here is my take on the products. I was given the following products by The Sample Store. CLEARWomen Ice Cool Menthol $9.40 for 350ml, $14.30 for 700ml Afterthoughts… I thought the texture, smell and color of this product resembles that of P&G’s Head & Shoulders’. I’m not a fan of Head & Shoulders as it made my scalp very oily and sticky so I had reservations when I realized the similar physical traits between them. The fragrance was like floral cum metal, almost like that of detergents’ and it was rather strong. Thumbs down! During wash, I could feel a cold tingling sensation on my scalp. Very refreshing! However, my hair felt a tad dry after I rinsed the product. Any noticeable results? To be honest, I don’t have too much dandruff to begin with so it was hard to spot a significant improvement but I did notice that my hair is almost completely free from dandruff these days. Here’s a picture. All in all, I think this is pretty effective in eliminating dandruff, however it had caused my hair to be slightly frizzy. So I guess its a double-edged sword. Four Honeyz crowns! CLEAR Women Anti Hair-Fall $9.40 for 350ml, $14.30 for 700ml Afterthoughts… I have contrary opinions about this product. It has a sweet-smelling fragrance and it produces lather rather quickly. I’ve been suffering from hair loss problems since puberty started and this has caused an enormous amount of stress and anxiety on me. It is always horrifying to see large amounts of hair clogging the shower drain after each hair wash. To add salt to the wound, the problem is aggravating and I still can’t find a remedy to this. Most shampoo brands that claim to reduce hair falls do not tackle the root of the problem. They merely make hair stronger to prevent hair loss caused by breakages. So I was relieved to learn that the shampoo increases the scalp’s natural resistance and strengthens hair from the roots. (Yes, they tackle the root of the problem! Pun intended.) After using the product for four days, I did see noticeable results. Hair fall is less and the shower drain no longer chokes on my crazy amount of hair. However, my scalp felt slightly greasy too. Well, I’ll continue to use this product for more visible results. For now, it deserves 4.5 Honeyz crowns. Besides the female range, I was also sponsored the male range! In addition, the smell is so overwhelming and it lingers on my head even hours after wash. Not a great feeling. However, I did notice lesser hair fall after a few washes. I’m grateful for this as hair fall has always been a problematic issue for me. So I guess the effectiveness of its hair fall control overwrites its unpleasant scent. What? I have to award Honeyz crowns to the product? Ok fine. 4 Honeyz crowns. Clear Men Cool Sport Menthol $10.30 for 350ml, $15.70 for 700ml Yawn. The packaging of these shampoos is seriously boring… But the scent of this shampoo fared so much better than the anti-hairfall one. In general, I like shampoos that contain menthol as my hair is rather thick and this means it insulates the scalp even more so I always loved the cooling feeling of menthol on my scalp. However the cooling feeling was not immediate, unlike other menthol shampoos. It took me about 20 seconds to feel the mint on my scalp. Despite the “lag time”, the mint effect felt very refreshing and invigorating. After wash, my oily scalp was replaced with a clean and refreshed scalp. So 4.5 Honeyz crowns! Me: All in all, do you like the products and would you recommend them to others? Bro: Well, check out the hair at the crown of my head. I’m swooning over Victoria’s Secret this season… Who wants to be a Victoria’s Secret angel too??? *Raising my hands up high* And the closest for mortals like us to become a VS angel? Don Victoria’s Secret! Riding on the hype of the recent Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2011, I decided to do a review on their winter classics. (Yup. Sorry. No lingerie or bikini babes this time. Not that there’s a next time either. :P) Short-Sleeve Turtleneck Tee (Chocolate) As seen on Victoria’s Secret Afterthoughts… I read Mireille Guiliano’s Women, Work & the Art of Savoir Faire: Business Sense & Sensibility like a bible. She mentioned in one of the chapters that turtlenecks are closet staples for the office. So I pledged my allegiance to turtlenecks ever since. To be honest, I don’t find turtlenecks flattering at all – they make necks appear shorter and make one look ridiculously stout. Well, not after I saw Victoria’s Secret’s angels’ rendition of turtlenecks. Look at Candice! Doesn’t she look incredibly hot in this pretty little chocolate number? So I was enticed to buy one of these from Victoriassecret.com. When I first saw it, I was slightly disappointed because I thought it looked really plain. The brown color made the top looked dull and lifeless. (I wanted to kick myself in the butt – literally!) When I tried it on… Lo and behold! The top looked amazing and it actually accentuated my curves instead of hiding them. The fabric is great too – it’s really thick. This quality comes in handy since it’s almost winter. Because of the plain outlook, accessorizing became a breeze and the brown color actually goes well with almost anything. All in all, I thought this is a pretty sophisticated and mature piece which is great for the office. Ramp up the look with scarves and belts for a more edgy appearance. It is not ideal for weekend wear/ casual look though as it might be too warm to wear in our humid weather. Four Honeyz crowns. Cowlneck Tee As seen on Victoria’s Secret Afterthoughts… Frankly, I thought the pictures above did not give this rose baby justice at all because it looks sweeter and more elegant in real life. I have pretty small shoulders so an off-shoulder like this is very flattering to my body as it makes my shoulders appear slightly broader and shows off the stylish edge. In short, it’s a perfect blend of classiness and sexiness. This is definitely my most favourite piece of winter clothing in my wardrobe at the moment. The material is rather thick too. Well, I would say it is thick enough for warmth in an air-conditioned environment but not in winter conditions – cold winds or blizzards. Workmanship is top-notch – no loose threads. Alright, enough of marketing statements and here comes the review. The first thing that caught my attention was its ingredient – retinol. I heard that Retinol is an antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals that cause wrinkles. So I was sold when I realize that the entire Hada Labo range contains this vitamin A compound. In Japan, lotion also means toner. So the texture is just like toners, very liquidy. It is slightly thicker than water though. Here’s a picture of the lotion. Somehow I thought the texture is just right for application. It’s neither too watery nor thick. I loathe products that are too watery as they tend to flow down my palms even before application. With the Hada Labo lotion, I have no problems with application at all. I’ll pour some lotion on my palms and conveniently (since they do not run down my palms) pat them onto my face until I feel that the lotion is thoroughly absorbed. No massage required. Hada Labo has been lauded as the best moisturizer in the market and I absolutely agree with that. After application, my face felt nourished and moisturized in that my skin felt slightly oily and sticky for a long period of time. No tight feeling at all. As mentioned in previous posts, my skin is extremely prone to acne. Because of this, I’ve always been very prudent when choosing anti-aging products as they tend to be extremely rich. I’ve been using the product for a week now and I have not experienced any breakouts so kudos to that. I’m not a huge fan of skin products with fragrance since I have very sensitive skin. So its odorless feature is a huge plus to me. To be honest, I’m not sure if the product has produced effective age-defying effects as I do not have obvious wrinkles except laugh lines and it’s hard to tell whether they have smoothened out. But there could be a modest improvement as some friends have commented that I look younger than my age these days. (So I’ll probably apply generous amounts of the product on my laugh lines religiously from now on. :P) For its effective moisturizing properties and reasonable price (SGD 25.90), I would give this 4.5 Honeyz crowns All in all, I think it’s a fallacy to think that anti-aging products can remove wrinkles entirely. Most of these products can only help to tone up the muscles slightly and improve and prevent the appearance of wrinkles. The process of smoothing out wrinkles is a delicate one and we have to be extremely patient. Sometimes, we need more than just skin products for results. As I once mentioned in my anti-aging tutorial , Do you know that we have approximately 60,000 thoughts per day (one per second.) Of those 60,000 thoughts, 95% of them are EXACTLY the same as the thoughts you had yesterday. And the day before that. And the day before THAT. Well, here’s something even worse: on average, a whopping 80% of those thoughts are NEGATIVE. That’s 45,000 negative thoughts per day! Being gut-wrenching and totally apathetic about life is not going to help you. Instead, try to let go of this negative vibe and start to be grateful about your life. Once those positive thoughts sink in, wrinkles are going to bid you goodbye and you can now say hello to young and dewy skin! Once again, thank you for reading.
