From the delicate skin on the face and around the eyes, to the worn weathered skin on our hands and knees? Well, Himalaya Herbals seems to think so. In a no frills turquoise green and white tub, it definitely exudes a cool glacier mint vibe. Beneath the inner foil seal resides a luscious lightly floral scented cream that is cool to the touch. Weddings really are a symphony of organized chaos. Everything that can go wrong usually does. People want to change seats or decide last minute that they prefer the look of their neighbours’ meal choice. You’re running around while trying not to trip up on your dress and embarrass yourself so you can hear about it at every family get together for the rest of your life, all while praying it doesn’t rain! But with there seemingly being more photobooth companies in Singapore than people, how do you decide which one is right for you? Well, read on to find out! Photobooths really have become a staple item at weddings these days. They’re suitable for all ages and give your guests a nice memento of your big day so they don’t feel bored and neglected. While they are busy snapping away, you can get ready for the next segment of your wedding. After lots and lots and really lots of searching, I finally engaged La Novella and said I do! They really were fantastic! The first step is obviously to find a photobooth company whose photos you actually like. When I stumbled on La Novella’s Facebook page, it was love at first sight I tell you. I loved their gorgeous backdrops, the way they composed and framed their shots, but the icing on the wedding cake came when I called them. It was their enthusiasm and attentiveness which made them stand out head and shoulders above the rest. Upon hearing my Disney fairytale concept, they sounded more excited than I did. I was over the moon! In the planning stages, they came down to the venue to discuss their ideal setup location as well as the complicated schedule for my big day. The timetable was so complicated, I felt almost as if I was planning a military strike. On the day itself, La Novella proved they were on the ball. With guests due to start arriving at 5.30-6pm, I was so happy to see the La Novella team at the venue setting up their booth at 4pm! Talk about perfectionism! Despite my wedding being a relatively small and intimate affair, the booth was being manned by 5 people with Gui Jie of La Novella manually taking every photo himself. Not only did this ensure that every photo was perfectly framed and delivered to our guests super fast, it also meant that guests didn’t have to worry about checking their position on a screen with the pressure of a time limit as imposed by some other photobooth companies. Our guests had a lot of fun and praised how fast their photos were printed out. Even my mommy had a good time! Although not the original backdrop that we had agreed on, La Novella came through with an even dreamier backdrop and some very gorgeous props which were perfectly in keeping with my Disney theme. The proposed theme The actual photobooth The new backdrop blended very nicely with the Disney photo frame I designed. Purple clouds, pink castle, Tinkerbelle, glass slipper logo and a garden-esque backdrop – seriously, what more can we ask for? Actually, La Novella also provides customised photo frame designing services that would fit your theme like a glove. This was what they created for our Instagram prints. Speaking of Instagram photo booths, our guests could also hashtag their Instagram photos with our official wedding hashtag #Bobbliana, then La Novella would instantly print out the photos and hand them to our guests later. Impressive eh? La Novella seriously upped the ante for wedding photo booths with this one. I highly recommend every wedding-couple-to-be to include this feature as now, you can literally put the Photo Booth in your guests’ hands. Trust me, this will significantly reduce the waiting time at the actual booth and instead, capture more incredible impromptu moments and even make it accessible to the older relatives who may have difficulty standing in line for long periods or walking to the booth. I also very much appreciated how the folks at La Novella took the initiative to place these informative boards at different parts of the venue to explain how the different photobooths work. In amidst the hubbub, I managed to take a few photos with my friends and family myself. Thankfully La Novella were kind enough to keep all my photos and pass them to me at the end of the night, after all, pockets are hard to come by on wedding gowns. The La Novella guys were also extremely considerate and mindful of my wedding schedule making sure that the photobooth was closed for key moments such as our wedding entrance, my surprise dance for Bobby and during our speeches, ensuring we had our guests’ undivided attention. I think I really hit the jackpot with La Novella. In the midst of all the wedding mayhem, La Novella stayed cool, calm and collected everyone’s photos so fast my guests were left smiling from ear to ear. What better way to infuse a little magic into your wedding than to actually infuse some magic into your wedding! No I haven’t gone crazy, trust me! As my hubby and I planned the details for our wedding, we couldn’t help but feel more and more excited. But what good would it be if we were the only ones having fun, where’s the magic in that? Like Cinderella’s ball, our wedding had to touch everyone in a way that they would not forget. We racked our brains to find a way to stand out from the wedding crowd and that’s when it came to us, what could be more magical than an illusionist, a wizard, a real magician! Introducing to you all, Alexander the great, magician and sleight of hand extraordinaire from Meta Illusions ! Now click to enter the magical realm of our Secret Garden Fairytale wedding ! While planning our wedding we knew there would be a lull after our solemnization up until the start of the actual dinner. Both Bobby and I would be getting ready for our grand march-in so we would not be able to receive or entertain our guests. We all know how it can feel as guests at a wedding, waiting to be seated and for the festivities to begin. Sure canapés would be served during this time, but it would be nice to have something else entertain our guests to keep the tempo up and keep interests piqued for our big entrance. And thus the idea of having a magician at the wedding was born. Through some rabid googling, we found Meta Illusions and Alexander. A few email exchanges later and I found myself discussing in person the fine details of my wedding plans. Alexander was a gentleman from the start. He was immediately excited by the theme and scope of my wedding and there’s nothing better than meeting someone as excited, passionate and motivated as you are. After a few live demos, my mind was literally blown! This guy was the real deal! Think David Blaine, Chris Angel, Cyril Takayama, etc. Alexander was able to perform cool, up close and personal magic and sleight of hand the likes of which you would normally only see on TV. This was no children’s party magician; this was magic of the highest order! To make things more exciting, he was even able to tailor some of the tricks to be in line with the theme of our wedding! Wow, I was really amazed I tell you! Come our actual wedding day, even though everything else was running late, Alexander wasn’t, furthermore he actually came early which turned out to be something of a godsend. As tensions were running high, Alexander’s cool and calm demeanor helped to calm everyone down. Fluent in English, Chinese and various dialects, he was able to entertain everyone, young and old alike. He was so captivating that even our emcees were distracted from their duties, almost delaying our march-in. I would later have family and friends telling me how enthralled they were by his performance, some even requested his contact details for events and parties of their own. We asked Alexander to stay on after his allotted performance for dinner and to enjoy the rest of the evening socially. What we weren’t expecting is that Alexander would go above and beyond the call of duty to entertain our guests opportunistically throughout the entire wedding to the evenings close. A true gentleman, professional and magician extraordinaire, our only regret was not being able to see his mind-blowing illusions for ourselves. Needless to say, we can’t recommend Alexander’s skills and services enough. “Imagination and makeup is the only weapon in the war against reality.” I’ve been suffering from fairytale withdrawal symptoms since my Disney wedding more than a year ago. It was certainly an exciting and enchanting experience escaping from reality for a while and totally immersing in my very own imaginative world inspired by fairytales. I’ve actually been reading the comments about our wedding on various news outlets and one “feedback” that keeps popping up is – Why didn’t the couple do an Alice In Wonderland themed photoshoot too? If we could, we would feature every iconic Disney story. However, due to time constraints, we could only select a few stories for the wedding shoot. I’ve always wanted to recreate the magic again, maybe for our wedding anniversary or something. Last month, the opportunity finally came knocking on our front door when Urban Decay sent me their Alice Through the Looking Glass makeup collection. Woo hoo! I showcased the colours in a first impression post and the lipsticks in a Wonderland makeup shoot entry . As for the new palette, I figured that if I just do a regular makeover, it would be an absolute borefest. The Disney Geek in me can’t allow that! Well, now that we have the luxury of time and a complete Alice In Wonderland makeup set, courtesy of Urban Decay and Disney, I guess it’s about time we head back to fairytaleland and write another #Bobbliana Disney-inspired chapter. This time, the location will be in my humble studio, Honeyz Paint House, and photos by our good friend and also our actual pre-wedding photographer, Yong Thye again! As for the makeup collection itself, I wanted to make sure you belles get to see the shades applied and matched in the most creative way. Hence, I consulted makeup extraordinaire, Clara Song for her expert advice and to help us style and create the look together. She did a brilliant job (despite the short notice) – Alice’s doe eyes, Mad Hatter’s gradient lips… Clara simply nailed it! The combination of neutral and loud shimmery colours makes it the perfect palette to bring on my travels. All in all, the highly-pigmented eyeshadows simply scream stunning! The lipsticks feel very moist and creamy and do not leave my lips feeling dry, not even the red matte one! I love the variety of finishes each shade produces. The finishes range from sheer, shimmery to matte. Of course, I’m also a huge fan of their rich and bold payout that gives the right amount of drama to the whole fairytale inspired look. “Have courage and be kind… Where there is kindness there is goodness, and where there is goodness there is magic.” This March, Disney is all out to set our fairytale-loving hearts aflutter with the release of the live-action retelling of the classic fairy tale – Cinderella. *shrieks* I remember I was in the midst of planning my Disney-inspired wedding when I first caught a glimpse of this movie spectacular. (❤o❤) It was a teaser poster that features the legendary glistening glass slipper of its beautiful protagonist, Cinderella. Think I kinda hyperventilated outside the GV cinema. Haha! So to celebrate the opening of the movie next month, I’ll be sharing all the Cinderella elements of our wedding – from the pre-wedding photos, props, photobooth to the dessert table. If you’re a Cinderelly fanatic, be warned – your heart might get out of rhythm too. 😛 And now, please allow me to present to you the first instalment of our Magic Pumpkin series – the Pre-Wedding photos. This next collection of photos was taken by Ada and Aki of A Square Visual Studio . And they feature a new form of photography known as ‘Indie Pop’ (aka 小清新) which is a blend of dreamy and quaint photography styles. This new form of photography was incarnated by the the ‘Indie Pop’ culture of the the UK music industry in the 1980s. It was popular for chronicling the little things in one’s life through refreshing, gentle and positive music themes. Later, this interesting sub-culture expanded its influence to the movie and photography industry. A few photography houses in the region have jumped on the bandwagon and adopted this new style of photography and one of them is A Square Visual Studio. And here’s their take on our Cinderella story. Once upon a time, in a land far, far away… Okay, it’s not that far, just a 14-hour flight away, a wandering nomad crossed paths with a princess who’s in a bit of a bind. An evil curse has been cast upon her and now, she’s trapped in a fairytale world. Doesn’t sound like a bad predicament yea? In a perfect storybook, the world is brave and good, your skin is flawless and smooth. But life’s a different game, the zits, spots and the broken veins. Sigh. Don’t lose hope just yet! You can always ‘change the fate’ with…… makeup of course! I was literally on cloud nine when news broke that Disney was collaborating with MAC Cosmetics on a new Cinderella line. But when I chanced upon MAC’s teaser image on Instagram, all I saw was a fairytale beauty catastrophe. The packaging was bleh, colors were dull and range was small. Nothing spelt princess-perfect except the glittery backdrop. Pfft! Then I watched the movie and realised the concept behind the collection. Lily James’ Cinderella look is fresh, graceful and insanely natural. Even when Fairy Godmother worked her sorcery and transformed the mice into charming horses, the pumpkin into a magnificent gold carriage, she still kept Cinderella’s look natural and subtle with just a hint of sparkly dust. What makes it brutally unfair is that even looking natural, Cinderella still looks like a goddess! Now this MAC fairytale range fits the Cinderella equation to a T. It consists of mostly nude and peachy colors that are totally wearable for any occasion. Close up, the periwinkle pearlescent packaging looks absolutely ethereal, paying homage to Cinderella’s beautiful iridescent ballgown in the movie. So not surprisingly, I gave in to MAC and bought the collection. Was it still a deal breaker in the end? Read on to find out! The range was also larger than I thought. It is made up of 17 enchanting items that includes everything from eyeshadow, loose glitter to lip gloss, each aptly named after different Cinderella elements and encased in pretty lavender blue pearlized packaging. Since I only decided to give this dazzling collection a go three weeks after its launch (awwww…), you can imagine – most of the items were sold out. I was only able to purchase the Glass Slipper lipgloss, Fluidline in Macroviolet and Beauty Powder in Mystery Princess. Other items (not in the Cinderella collection) that I also acquired are the MAC Brush Cleanser and the 212 Flat Definer Brush. Now let’s get upclose and personal with the MAC Cinderella products! MAC Cinderella Lipglass in Glass Slipper It’s a beautiful clear gloss with pink glitter and I like how it adds instant glamour and glitz to my lips! Dark lighting: Bright lighting: However, it feels a tad stickier than my Dior and Victoria’s Secret glosses hence making it harder to apply on the lip and and also trickier to push the wand applicator back into the tube. That said, its thicker consistency also allowed it to be more resistant to fading. As mentioned earlier, the goal of this collection is to enhance your natural beauty so don’t expect a highly pigmented formula. I’ve applied the lip gloss on one side of my lips for your comparison. It’s a subtle difference but I’m still in love with the holographic shimmer and glass finish of the lip gloss. Would I buy it again? Definitely! 4.5 Honeyz crowns! But I guess that’s a hypothetical question for now as most of the products in the MAC Cinderella collection are sold out. And since it is a limited edition, it is highly unlikely that they will ever be restocked. Oh well. MAC Cinderella Beauty Powder in Mystery Princess According to MAC, this is a highlighter that is supposed to give the face a touch of radiance and make the skin look like it’s glowing from within. Honestly, I think this might be the collection’s weakest link. I know they are heading for the nude and natural route but this is way too natural – it’s like the Emperor’s new clothes! I can’t see a thing! Okay. Maybe a little. But if you’re looking to highlight your nose bridge for a more defined look. This will not do the job for you. I’ve applied the highlighter on one side of my face, namely t-zone, laugh lines and chin for your reference. Noticed any difference? And now both sides of the face. Yup. I’m sticking to my initial verdict – it doesn’t do much. It’s only redeeming quality is probably its adorable blue and gold packaging that looks great in my makeup pouch. 2 Honeyz crowns! MAC Cinderella Fluidline in Macroviolet It is not highly pigmented but it’s texture is rather buildable. With multiple swipes, a gorgeous violet shade forms. The alluring plum hue reminds me of Elsa’s makeup but a more wearable version of it which I’m totally a fan of. I’ve never worn gel liners so I was initially hesitant to purchase this – I don’t wanna accidentally glide the goo into my eyes or worst, (yup worst :P) look like I’ve got a black eye. The staff at the MAC store at Bugis junction were extremely helpful. They taught me how to wield an eyeliner brush for a more precise gel liner application. It’s actually pretty easy. Instead of smearing the product all over your lids, try coating the tip of the bristles with the gel liner and lightly tap the product on your lids. And voila! Angel winged eye corners! So I also added MAC’s 212 Flat Definer Brush and Brush Cleanser to my shopping bag. Whoa! This turned out to be an expensive purchase with all the add ons but it was all worth it. The gel liner (alone) fulfils my aesthetic, operational and budgetary requirements. Haha! I would totally buy this again (hypothetically again). 4 Honeyz crowns! This is the finished look.  So is there a huge difference? Erm.. not really. I guess it wasn’t such a bad decision that I missed the collection then. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying this MAC range is a cash grab ploy. The colors are truly spellbinding. I actually like how they are so long lasting and wearable but since this is a highly anticipated collection, I expected a lot more. So what do you think?
